You sound like one of them "missing out".......lol

Had to price some roofing today so of course swung thru tools...my store had a dozen (literally) 2 packs. Even at the clearance price I'd be throwing my $ away, left 'em all right there.

I searched my local store for the 3D flashlight and the vice grips. Really wanted the 3D flashlight so I asked an employee. He was confused on how a flashlight could be 3D. I had to bring batteries over before he understood it was about the qty of batteries.

I gotta agree with you, I bought one of these at the clearance price of $2.59 and I feel ripped off. These are total piles...

Thanks for the tip. I got a box for $20 and a few pair of vice grip pliers. Also they had Irwin hand powered clamps in a pack of four for $10 on closeout. Next to them was an assortment of Dewalt clamps at regular price.

The intermediate box was outside of the cardboard box, floor model I suppose. It had a scratch or two on the bottom, just like it had been in my shop for a week or so.

To those that don't like the vice grips, what don't you like about them?

They have a lot of side to side slop on them. Once they're open or not fully tight the movement is really amazing. I thought they were broken when I first released them. I also don't find them any easier to release than standard vise grips.

To those that don't like the vice grips, what don't you like about them?

1) in an attempt to make them ergonomic they're just awkward (note another poster used the same word to describe them)
2) rubber overmolds on any tool can pull off
3) rubber overmolds TERRIBLE for hot works, meaning these are mostly a homeowner or possibly mechanic's tool
4) the over-center-esque closure mechanism pops open more easily if you're pounding on the work (there goes mechanic use, never mind)
5) I also don't find them any easier to open
6) rubber overmolds have low spots that just hold grease and dirt, plus they're wider taking up more room on my hanging rack

Seriously, the original all-metal Vise Grip design is so tried and true, it's a case of fixing what ain't broke. If anything the self-adjusting design of LockJaws or the alternate design of squeeze-to-release vs ViseGrip's push-to-release are arguable improvements.

As I said, these are always my last resort. They just feel more like a Fisher Price toy than a tool worthy of a fabrication/machine shop.

Yeah its not even like you need to spend a bunch of money to get the nicest locking pliers ever made. Its just about getting some that ACTUALLY WORK PROPERLY! The ergonomics on the Grip-Ons are just perfect, they are so precise I use the bent long nose 6" as needle nose sometimes. Like stated above, there are just so many flaws in the quick release and the rubber over mold, and they pinch my fingers/ dont open or close properly or easily. So in the end is it really worth spending a 4-5x less for a inferior product that doesnt do its job as good as it should? On top of all that Grip-On's are made in Spain and not China.

Does anyone have this hammer drill? Wonder how well it works? Reviews seem good but there aren't a lot of them

Checked out two additional HD stores tonight for the 3D MagLite and all gone. Nice deal if you could have found them.

Nothing much at my HD. A lot of their Husky screwdrivers were on clearance. I grabbed a 6-pack of the Husky Pro's for $11. All the individual ones were between $2 and $5

Hit jackpot today. Had local HD search for 3D Maglite showing they had 9 in stock. They found them in a box on top of rack. Purchased all 9 with 10% Lowes discount out the door with box full of Maglites for $66.63. Merry "Bright" Christmas to my family and friends.

Went to Lowes yesterday and found that they were starting to clearance the same 2AA Cell mag lights that HD was, price wasn't near as good as the ones I picked up at HD but I had a picture of the lights on my phone hanging on the shelf at HD and asked the Lowes manager if he would price match and he did. Picked up 4 more lights for $2.43 Lowes Item# is 180378

I will post in Lowes section as well.

Went to HD yesterday too and was able to pick up 10 of the Irwin Micro Quick Grip Clamps for $1.60 each and 3 of the Irwin 10" Vise Grips for $2.79 each

I picked up this strange flat blade screwdriver today. Short shaft with a regular handle. Usually if the shaft is short the handle is small. I was happy to find a tool I don't have!

Oh, I really wanted it. I just don't have the room for it. I already have a Mac box, HF 44" top chest, Two HF roll carts, a Matco box, and a few metal cabinets for storage...

The local Oregon City homedepot has Bosch Rotary Drills on clearance. Normally $599 down to $359. Tons of bits, even some 12v charges/cases/batteries for $49.99 a set.

Ok, lukewarm deal here. My store had these Bessey clamps in the front swing area for awhile at $4.97. They've tried to awkwardly cram them into the tool area (next to the automotive stuff) and dropped the price to $3.97. They're all metal except for the protective pad on the swivel foot which could be removed, and the wooden handle. They work out better than 4"
StrongHand sliding F clamps for this machining op which I do often.

10 lb. bags of Virgo grass seed. Sun and shade fescue and ryegrass blend. Was $24-22. Now 5.83-6.40. These are on closeout because in Wisconsin and other states it's 8 months since the test date. still good seed.

Some hammers on sale about 40% off. Replacing with Husky brand maybe?

Now that's the kind of clearance item I like to see! Although it's disappointing, 1 Estwing will last you a lifetime.
