I'm relatively new to GJ. I've read many interesting topics. This forum has been really informative and paid off today. I went to HD to buy insulation and went over to the garden department. Dang if I didn't find one of the 4-gallon backpack sprayers listed here a couple of pages back. It was on the shelf with other sprayers and didn't have a tag on the shelf. The box did not have a yellow sticker but it had a sticker to hold for the 4/19 spring black Friday event. I checked the price at the register and it was $.01! I scanned the insulation and added the sprayer. Purchased all with no problem.
I checked another item I found on the clearance rack and it showed up for a bit less than the sticker on the rack. Still not a good deal but its price is declining. So, what I have learned here and witnessed in person is that clearance item prices are fluid. I think the penny items should be listed here because they are just clearance items that have just fallen through the various clearance prices to the bottom of the ladder.

Steve,
Congrats on finding the penny deal. Went shopping today prepared with a list of items noted on this site, as well as the Slickdeals site. Unfortunately, didn't find anything on the list at the prices others are finding them for (checked for the Milwaukee 13" Cube Jobsite Box, Hampton Bay 60" Industrial Ceiling Fan, 41" Husky Top/Bottom Tool Chest Combo, and the 22" Pro-Grade Rolling Tote - all at regular price w/exception of rolling tote which was not available). However, on a chance I walked through the garden section and saw 4 of the sprayers you noted above. They were place on the rafter just out of reach, but with the use of a nearby rake - an employee walked by when I was getting one of the units down, and yes he of course didn't offer to help - I was able to get one down. Took it to SCO and it too rang up a penny. With the wife's assistance, went back and got the other 3 - she caught them as I pulled them down with the rake - and we bought all 4. Attendant came over when we were scanning them, stated that I was lucky as they had recently been discounted and wished me well with my purchase.
Most times I go out I find at least one penny item - sometimes small or inexpensive items, but I have been lucky and do not spend an inordinate amount of time doing so (as noted prepare for the trip by making a list and do not get too disappointed when I don't find the elusive miter saw or other big ticket item). Guess it is the "thrill of the hunt" that makes it fun and exciting. And in the end, my son and other family enjoy the bounty (I do not sell items only for personal consumption or family). Hope that you continue to enjoy the "hunt" and I would ask that folks continue to post their finds on this site as I enjoy reading about your hunts and the successes.
