ITs fine running around for 10 hrs if you're reselling stuff and this is like a business. If you're looking for a deal on a nailer to do some carpentry work killing 10 hrs just isn't worth it.

If you don't put in the time, you don't get to complain!

Plus like you said it is fun to do and it drives those HD managers in sane. They scratch there head then they check your coupon. then they scratch a little more and the whole time your smiling knowing they pretty much have to and you got em. Then all the way to the next store you are fist pounding the dash just waitin for that next deal to think its hiding and bang in between the cross hairs got it.

Lol, The price checker link is listed under a heading that says public use or something similar. Sounds like he is a dummy.

Ok, here's the story of my unicorn deal. First, the bounty:
k929WOu.jpg

5x LED Lightbulbs and 1-Gallon of WD-40 Specialist Rust Soak

Monday night I was at the local HD hunting around for M18 Fuel Impact drivers and Toughboxes unsuccessfully. After giving up, I swung back by the actual clearance rack and saw these lightbulbs. They were something like 3.53 and regular price was 20$ so I figured that was a good enough deal to give them a try. Brought them home, put them in the living room and they were awesome! Really bright, and a nice warmth. Instant on (unlike stupid CFLs!) and supposedly they will last 20 years. I resolved to get the rest of them the following day.

On Tuesday, I went back to HD and grabbed the remaining 5 bulbs, then headed up to the Pro computer to look around a bit more. Sorted by all clearance and I noticed this:
gsijqRT.jpg

I had just bought a gallon of Evaporust from HF for like 25$, and this stuff was even more, nearly 28$. It took me a while but I found them with the other rust products in automotive, and there was no clearance sticker. They were marked full price.

I brought the bulbs and the jugs up to self checkout and price checked. It rang up full price. I brought over the cashier and asked her for help showing that picture on my phone of the price for the Rust Soak. She called over what I assume was the manager... I showed him the picture and right away he got accusatory. "What is this? We don't do this this isn't ours. It's 28$" and I said "It's off your computer right over there. Let me show you".

I brought him over to the pro computer and it was still up on the Rust Soak page. He started swiping frantically saying "This isn't our app what is this thing you've put on here look at the URL this is fake" (The price checker app url is really weird like https://www1.tsturil.teruiaosf14.com/fajwofpj) and I said "I'll show you how I got here." I closed the price check app. Reopened it, entered the SKU and tada it was right in front of him. He then said "This isn't right. This is for employees only not for you you can't use this. You have to use the website right here" and tried to open the HD website. I stopped him and said that I had received a survey on a receipt about a month ago asking if I'd used the Pro Computers, if they worked and were useful, if I had tried the estimators, the price checker app and so on. He said it was talking about using the website. And I said it specifically said "Price Checker App". I fought with him for a while telling him that it was obvious HD corporate wants these computers to be used by customers in this way and he kept telling me I wasn't allowed anymore and to stay off it. Then I said "So...?" and he said "Look I'll make you a once in a life time deal do you want the price or not?" and I said "Yes".

He brought me back over to the self-checkout and started scanning stuff. He said "Look just take one" and started to try to price adjust the rust soak. The computer wouldn't let him and he claimed it was because it was flammable... That made no sense to me but he said he can't do anything about it because they can't discount flammable items. WD-40 Rust Soak is not flammable, you can check the MSDS for it.

Then I said "Ok well... now what" and he got even more frustrated and said he'd just ring the rest up and make up the difference. He rang up my light bulbs and it was 15$... Not even enough to make up the difference on the rust soak. So then he started angrily rubbing his forehead a second and said "Just... Just go swipe over there. I'll charge you 0.05$ this one time just go do it." I swiped, it came up 0.05$. Got my receipt and walked out. As I went out the alarm went off because the Rust-Soak wasn't even rung up. And I left with my bounty for 0.05$. It was not at all fun though and it felt very accusatory and unprofessional. I definitely want to get clarification from HD corporate on the whole situation, I'm just not sure if it would be better to do it through email or on the phone.

Here's the receipt:
46sCKvR.jpg

It wasn't a "real" unicorn deal though. It was a bizarro... borderline theft frustration unicorn deal.

Well I'm glad to see I am not the only one having such fun with the witches & incompetent HD managers! It's shocking to me how anti-customer friendly some stores can be and yet another store will bend over backwards for you. Coralnut, your very lucky to have 10 stores to choose from within an hours drive, and can avoid doing battle with the wicked witch of the east. After a couple days off to hike in the Beartooth Mountains, at almost 11,000 ft above sea level, I'm re-energized & ready to do battle again with the wicked witch of the west!
Here's a taste of my heaven:

So, I take it some people here wouldn't approve of me actually planning a weekend getaway this weekend that takes me by 3 HD's on purpose....Yeah, the trip is actually planned around the HD trips.

Who cares what other people...it's about doing what you want.

When I travel I'll look up gun shops nearby and plan routes to stop at the bigger and well reviewed ones. I don't plan a trip to go to a specific gun store though. But stopping at ones near my destination...heck yeah!

I don't think anyone here really cares what you guys do, we just don't want to hear about it. Which you could easily do by starting your own thread. This thread and the Lowes thread are just about ruined now. I really don't see why you guys can't take this obsessive shopping/hunting stuff and make it it's own thread and keep this one on normal deals. But no one is policing it so I guess you can do whatever you want. I just like how you guys ***** about it but don't do something as simple as starting another targeted thread where you can do exactly what you want. It isn't complicated but I am sure you guys will now tell me why it is, or use some stupid rationalization about how this is all relevant to what this thread is supposed to be about.

You think I'm lucky to live in a densely populated area that has 10 stores within an hour's drive. I think you're lucky to live close enough to hike in the Beartooths. Wanna trade? :D

Got on the in-store PC today for the first time during lunch. Not much in my local store, but I did leave with a semi-score!

Picked up this Ridgid stainless wet/dry vac for 14.04. Inventory showed one available, I asked some dude who responded as expected 'No, we do not have that vacuum, it's on clearance and has been gone for months". 5 minutes later I found it in the rafters, then went to find the dude to get it down! He was like, "damn, they've been looking for that thing for months"...evidently not that hard, it's a shiny vacuum on the edge of the top row!

No, it's people like you that have ruined this thread. Notice that most of us that posted deals regularly don't bother anymore? I wonder why that is.

Exactly. I've been PMing or texting deals to the folks in the thread that aren't whining like little kids because they can't find the deals in their store. So, none of my recent finds are on here at all, thanks to people like "jim."

Any deals yet? you have anything to post, like a pic of something you found that we can go and buy???????

Stop crying then, if it wasn't for some of these guys on here posting about the nails I wouldn't have known, so I guess this thread is not ruined, and people do care and have found deals, and have learned how to get them. Please if you have nothing nice to say, stay quite. You would be doing all of us a favor. I guarantee their are guys out there that have scoped this thread and brought plenty of stuff and not posted a thing.

Thank you for your comments and have a nice day.....

Damnit, I was there last night, should have checked for this!
Check around. I was told they would probably be getting rid of them period(not sure the amount of truth). Two stores so far are cleaned out. Hope the one right next to my house follows suit soon.

Also, just want to say I appreciate the people that do post info up for others. Reading and following examples of others has helped a lot and I've found some decent deals by floating from store to store. Even managed to get my local HD to price match the $8 ridgid tool box

Milwaukee 600V Cat III multimeter 2216-20 $149 marked down to $99
Milwaukee 400A Cat III clamp on meter 2235-20 $119 marked down to $109

I don't know how great a deal that first one is. I can post a picture of the shelf label when I get home.

Nobody's forcing anyone to read this thread. If the thread isn't working for someone then they should give up on it.

Jim's idea of starting another thread isn't a totally unreasonable request. I suggest that Jim follow through on his own idea, and start a thread for the kind of deals he's interested in. Then everyone will be happy.

Yea i've seen the multimeter in a couple of stores on the clearance rack. Iv'e walked it down to the self check out line, but it rang up at 99.00 dollars. Still not cheap enough, but i'll keep an eye on it and if it goes down I'll take a pic of it and post it.

13 Amp 7 1/4'' Ryobi Circular Saw With Laser was $69.97, now $13.03 SKU:141081

It was a leftover blue one so I'm guessing it was the only one.

Nice score I was able to find 2 about 6 weeks ago at the same price...Surprising it hasn't dropped to a penny by now.

I thought the computer didnt show penny items?

It won't show the items that are clearanced for say 13.03 but ring up a penny. They still show as 13.03. There are a ton of penny items though that show in the computer. When I filter by all clearance I have to scroll through like 15 pages of penny items that are all not in stock. Tons of like patio furniture cushions and pipe fittings and random things. At least at my store it's that way.

So, the tip about closing and reopening the Pro computer app worked a charm. I got the price checker to show up. Me and my GF spent quite a while browsing through it, figuring out how it works, and waiting as it got a million server errors. Eventually we figured out how to filter by clearance and then looked through all the clearance items in the store. We got a hit! Even though it may not have been a penny it was still a hell of a deal:
aIVlpOW.jpg

Checked my local store today for clearance items for the first time. Walked right up to a computer by the entrance and started searching. I had gone in for a couple of other non-related smaller items, so I had those in my hand. I wanted to check for another type so I started searching for non-clearance items first to see if anyone would bother me. No one said anything, and I was right next to the greeter! My store has been pretty easy to deal with in the past for buying non-clearance items. I like the local HD a lot; one of my favorite stores actually.

Anyway, I then started to search for "tools", "drill", etc. and finally typed in "impact" in the search and filtered by Clearance. A few smaller items popped up along with some type of Ridgid hand impact nailer or something. But what caught my eye was the M18 Fuel Impact Driver. I already have one but for $60, it's worth a try...and my dad could use one to get started with the M18 line.

So I walked over to the tool section and started looking up. Note, it seems like my store doesn't carry a whole lot of FUEL tools from the get-go (which is really disappointing as they're so worth it), so I wasn't expecting much. Looked and looked in the Milwaukee section, but didn't see it. A sales person came over and asked if I needed help because I was looking up high. I had the normal website open on my phone to the item, so I showed it to her. She said they have the normal non-FUEL impact driver, but I said I wasn't interested. I said that the computer said they had one in stock so she looked it up on the portable inventory computer they carry, and saw that it was on clearance, and said that they wouldn't have one because those have been gone for a while. I said "thank you" and walked away, and was about to give up, but happened to look on the other side of the isle and saw a couple red Milwaukee cases that looked like the right size. Sure enough, one was labeled with the correct SKU and was labeled as "green tagged" (apparently means it's missing components of the kit due to a return or being a floor model). It was also labeled floor model too but was hidden on the back of the case. I asked if she could get it down for me to take a look and said if it was missing the charger, I didn't care and could find one myself. Sure enough, it was missing the charger but had the driver and two batteries. A few scratches on the housing, but it's going to get scratched up after some use anyway.

She basically walked me to the counter with the item. I was hoping to search for a clearance Bostitch nailer, but didn't want to let the M18 FUEL impact driver out of my sight. Figured I could come back next week to check for a nailer (1 was shown to be in stock) as I don't really need one at the moment. She removed the security tags and rang it up using the self checkout. A couple other sales reps were there, and throughout the whole process I felt a sense of gloom-and-doom. Maybe it's just me, but I didn't get the sense I was th e most liked customer at the moment. However, I wasn't given any problems, and checked out with my other two smaller items just fine.

Walked out the door and dialed my dad. "Hi Dad! Just picked up a Milwaukee M18 FUEL impact driver for $60...are you interested?!"

Thanks for all the info. Hopefully someday soon I'll be able to return the favor.

I have to find more hiding places for all of this Milwaukee stuff that is at .00 status.

The store 45 minutes from here showed they had 2 in stock last week and when we searched a guy came over and looked it up and said they "weren't here" and changed the instock quantity to 0. I still think they are somewhere in that store and really wish I could find them...

Also if anyone still has extras of them from their local store just lying around I'll pay to ship one here!

What happens to stuff at .00 status?

I honestly dont think it ever gets to a penny....either they leave it at .00 or they send it back to vendor.

The tool area is probably one of the worst at being organized they probably have more sku's than other departments. Plus they rack the hell out of the tools who knows what's buried up there.
