First negative experience for me tonight.

Went into a store that I have been into twice before. Went to the computer and began browsing and noticed a cashier staring at me. This is the same computer I have used before with no issues that's located in the Pro section. She eventually walks over and asks if I need help and I say no. She then asks if I work at the store and I say no. She kind of stares at me and then says I can't use the computer. I point where it says "Public" and say sure I can! She walked away and I figured that was the end of it.

She came back a few minutes later and told me that I couldn't use the computer and I asked for the manager. She said the "head cashier" told her that and I once again requested the manager. Fortunately getting the manager took a little bit of time so I got to complete most of my searching.

The manager wanted to know why I was on "her" computer. I told her because it was for public use just like every other store. She proceeded to be an ahole so I got her name and moved on.

I had no reason to prolong the back and forth because I had some good deals to go snag off the shelf.

8 shop vacs and 1 bosh laser level.

No one bothered me in the lighting department today. It was a store I don't usually go to and they had a brand new computer setup for me to use.

nice score on the shap vacs!

We had one store today give my wife a hard time about some 50 cent nails -- ??? -- asked who gave her that price -- ??? -- hadn't bothered with self checkout since it wasn't a penny item. Went to another store and picked about 20 more boxes of nails out of the rafters. Picked up 18 stanley shovels for the last clearance price of 2.52 each. Those have pennied out... pretty easy to spot in the shovel area. They don't show up in the computer any more.

got my wife flipping nailers, and various tools on facebook yard sale pages! she loves it!

Oh - and I can confirm that the same dewalt miter and table saws from last years black friday are back with the same skus, but they are full price. The stores are loaded with them. Must be for an upcoming event.

Let's hope these go back to the same clearance price in a few months. Also saw the $50 drill combo kit. The waiting game begins.

I don;t know about that....I did find those miter saw and table saw last time at bottom clearance price...but not penny.... awesome deal....

but I don;t know if home depot is going to clearance these again like last time....Or do they do the same every year....????

lets hope they keep the games alive....because lately...I haven;t found **** of anything of real value at home depot...Seem all the killer deals have dried up and I have pratically stopped looking...

Any veterans know if they do this every year like last year on those dewalt miter saw, table saw, ryobi battery, miter stand, toolboxes...dewalt drills and various other special buy clearance buys....????

the key is the "special buy" markings on the items. This often/usually indicates that they are not a SKU/model/packaging/etc that they plan to carry year round. So, after the promotional/special buy period, the price will drop. I have given this advice before but will do it again.... always grab a pdf or paper ad for any special event/holiday/etc and try to hang on to it for 6 months. The items marked "special buy" are the ones to start watching a few months after the event.

Got a picture this morning when I unloaded the car. I think I better take a break today before my wife kills me. :shoot5:

What do you do with all the multiples Rexamus, resale?

Usually ask everybody I know if they want/need whatever I bought and then I will resell whatever I have left. My area is absolutely HORRIBLE for selling tools on Craigslist though so I might have to venture back to ebay even though I haven't sold anything on it in probably 7 or 8 years. I'm not exactly sure how much shipping costs and all that good stuff though.

Nice score! Cute dog too:rocker:

blame the dog. the wife won't give the dog anymore biscuits, but you can sneak them to her.

"Honey, look what followed me home!"

"Can I keep them?"

the damn dog brought these home!

Hahaha...he does have a pretty good pouty face so I'm sure he could get away with it better than me.

I guess I shouldn't leave his cat twin out or he might get jealous.

so do y'all make any money off these? Seems like already low ebay prices combined with ebay fees and shipping would not make it worth the time on most things.

Went to the other store today in search of the Ridgid MS1290 Miter Saw. Manager at this store was nicer than the other and took $50 off the floor model. Counting the 7% savings by purchasing a card from Giftcardzen my total was $248!

All that is missing is the allen wrench and the manual.

I had previously posted about my store not wanting to sell me a display model Milwaukee 2653 Fuel 1/4" hex impact driver. They said they don't "usually" sell displays, or the displays are damaged, or a couple other excuses just to try to make me go away.

I went back today ready to not take no for an answer. I found an old guy who's previously sold me display models (and looks and talks EXACTLY like Hank Hill). The battery on the tool was dead dead from no charge, so I brought in one of my own batteries ready to "test" the tool if they tried to tell me it was intentionally damaged as a display. I also brought in a Phillips screwdriver to remove the battery keeper thing, but turns out I woulda needed torx (which I had in the truck).

Anyway the old guy was like, sure. He then asked the same guy who last time said they don't sell displays, and the guy was like sure, no problem. WTF? but I wasn't gonna complain.

The "kit" was long gone (I did look overhead with all the other boxes marked DISPLAY) but at $58.03 for a brushless tool and one compact battery I didn't care. The 2653-20 TOOL ONLY still sells at $129.00 online. I missed out on one more compact battery and a charger, not a big deal to me. I throw the hard cases away so they don't count in the "kit" IMO.

Also, a little helpful info: the screws that retain the battery keeper need a T15. So, if you have a store that is also trying to tell you their display is no good, challenge them politely. Tell them, "Let's just take a look." The next excuse will be they don't have a charged battery to put on it, so have one with you. Then they'll say they don't have the tools to remove the battery keeper, so have a T15 driver with you. The black original Milwaukee screw will take a T15 OR a straight blade, but they add a second silver screw on the other side which is T15 only. I recommend taking in tools they simply don't sell at HD, and engrave or even sharpie your name on the battery. Should they try to accuse you of stealing the battery, calmly explain you'd like to see the video footage in the tool dept of you lifting a battery, and ask them to explain how you were able to engrave it in-store (I reco a true powered engraver, not just an awl). Food for thought.

My store's also got the 2 packs of Ridgid 4.5" grinders at $59.00, but I really don't need anymore grinders. Must resist. But a helluva deal for two 8A grinders. I wonder when they're likely to drop to a .03, if at all?

If people keep jumping on those ridgid grinders at $59 they'll never make it to x.03 status. I don't think they'll bother with x.06 or x.03 pricing if the items all sell out of inventory. In that case they'll just make the SKU inactive. I also wonder whether further discounting is likely on a Special Buy item. It's not like regularly stocked inventory, where last year's model gets a deep discount because it's being pushed out by this year's model.

My local HD store has a place for you to test the battery powered tools. A display in the aisle with a big block of wood that has drywall screws in it. but the batteries are always dead.

What is the part number on the 2 pack of grinders anyway?

I hear ya and the DeWalt sliders and table saws at the start of the year kept dropping all the way to a penny, and they were Special Buys. My store has 4 of the grinder kits left, I bet they'll all sell at $59 before any other price drop may occur.

OTOH for Spring Black Friday they brought in a Special Buy Milwaukee kit 2606-21CT. It was $99 during the event, and STILL shows as "clearance" at $99. So there's just no predicting.

So, I can't say this enough, but I'll say it again; OVERHEAD!!! Do not trust the computer or the employees. "0" doesn't mean anything. Yesterday I was at an HD and found that the Ryobi belt sanders were clearanced out when they changed from blue to green, and the part number was changed from 8-2 to 9 (I don't remember what the beginning numbers are now). The computer said 0 in stock, but I had just been in that aisle and could've sworn there was a whole pallet of them sitting there. I wrote down the part number, and grabbed a pimple faced employee. I had him pull one for me, and scan it. I walked away with a cart full of brand new belt sanders for 13 bucks each.
Put in the legwork, folks!

Every store I've been to has had those belt sanders but I just couldn't bring myself to buy them since they are so cheap to begin with. Good job though!

Inv=0 does mean something. It either means that Inv=0 is really true, or it could mean that a dept manager just zeroed out the inventory on the computer by force so they could retire the SKU as inactive, without even bothering to find the merchandise first.

Then, when some sharp customer finds the inventory and buys it, inventory goes negative. THAT is how you get INV=-1. Do me a favor schmelpboy, and re-check the inventory of those sanders on the computer. I'd be willing to bet that inventory has gone negative on that item. If not then they manually re-zeroed it to hide the problem from the bean counters.

Last night I had a store employee tell me that Inventory=1 means that it's on display. I knew she was wrong, and I knew that she was just trying to brush me off in saying that. So I schmoozed her a little and next thing you know I had her climbing the stairs to check for several Inventory=1 SKU that I wanted. No luck finding any of them.

Lucky me, after having her scan the entire tool department from on high, I managed to find the Mwk 2653 impact driver for $58.03. Some douchebag had hidden it on the floor, behind some other boxes, pushed it way into the back under the racks where it would be hard to find, and put a 2654 in front of it to hide it. I snagged the 2653 and pushed a 2654 way in the back to take it's place. I'm hoping that the douchebag who hid it doesn't realize that he's got a different SKU until he hits the checkout and it rings up at $239.00. The girl who had been on climbing the stairs for me was genuinely happy that I found the missing SKU because it made our team effort pan out. She did a price check, saw that it was marked down from $229 to $58.03 and high-fived me for finding a bargain! She was one of those people who really liked to help people find a good deal.

Moral of the story -- be persistent. Look high, and look low. You need to look low because there are cheap doucebags won't buy a tool and wait for the price to drop, instead they try to hide it in the store.

No pic of her up high checking your SKUs?

The End of Looking Overhead?

The stores in my area have been producing zero hits on closeout items for a long time. I'm in an area where closeouts rapidly get picked clean. The only chance of getting a good deal on most things is to find mislocated things on-high. In the past week, several of the stores in my area have done extensive "spring cleaning" up high, followed by total reorganization of the floor level displays. This has put an end to finding NOS inventory up there.

I mean they've REALLY cleaned up the rafters. They took down everything that was up there and wiped the place clean. One day that I was in there the entire top tier was EMPTY. Then, when everything was off of the shelves, they repopulated them with new stock labelled "Save for Event July **" which had an upcoming date on it. There's nothing left up high in my local stores now that used to be on closeout. Everything NOS has been RTV'd, Inventory Zeroed, and SKUs are now inactive. Hooverville doesn't even even exist any more.

To me it looks like the stores in my region are doing intensive spring cleaning and reorganization to wipe out all of the old stuff and make room for the new. Watch for this happening in your store. If you see an abnormally large number of associates in the tool department working on displays, chances are that they're mobilizing to clean things out like they did here, and all of the NOS SKU are going to go inactive in a matter of days. That will put an end to finding clearances in the computers, at least for a while.

FWIW my store listed 13 of those Ryobi sanders in inventory yesterday, but they're nowhere to be found. Since the upper decks have been wiped clean I'm thinking the missing SKU have all been RTV'd and they just haven't forced INV=0 yet.

Are those Ryobi sanders blue box items or green box items? It's hard to imagine that that many blue box items could remain hiding in the store, I can't find any of them. Considering they've wiped the upper shelves clean and re-done the displays, there's no place left for them to hide.

BTW, if those sanders are really that cheap, it makes me wonder how good the Ridgid 4.5" grinders in the 2-pack will be. Has anyone tested them out or is everyone just hoarding them in boxes???

I know this is a dumb question but where is this computer at HD that people use to look up prices? the only ones I see at my local HD is pro service desktop.

Found a whole case of the energizer aa batteries in my store.

A word to the wise. Be careful asking employees for help locating items. If they are younger guys they are more likely to not look good until you leave after you show them you are looking for 75% off stuff, then later they will buy it for themselves.

I don't find many deals but the last time I did the guy at the checkout was pissed he didn't find them before me.
