One member told me average of a 2630-20 circular saw on eBay is $86 plus $18 shipping. I have NOT verified that myself on eBay. If true, it's selling over retail of $99 at my store right now. Crazy, but that IS eBay.
The reasons for this may not be clear to people who are bad at math.
Brick and Mortar example:
$99 + 7% tax = 105.93. Spend time Driving. Pay for gas driving to store.
Ebay:
$86 + 18 shipping = $104 delivered. No time spent driving. No fuel expense.
There are hidden costs involved in shopping that most consumers just fail to consider. It costs me $18 just to drive my truck to the nearest HD store and back. It's much cheaper to buy the saw on ebay. Lower cost or more convenience is the whole point of shopping online.
there's not enough meat on the bone to be worth my time after shipping and ebay's ever-climbing fees.
I figure something sold thru a private individual, even if NIB, is worth at most .60 on the dollar.
Interesting point you make there. The first sentence acknowledges that there's a cost that other people have to incur to provide the product for sale -- a cost in time that you are not willing to pay, and a cost in ebay overhead that you are not willing to pay. You think these costs are high enough that you're not willing to pay them. Fair enough.
Then in your second sentence, you say that NIB gear is only worth 60-cents on the dollar.
In other words, you aren't willing to put in the time or effort, and you aren't willing to pay the overhead expenses. And at the same time you say that you aren't willing to reimburse the other guy for his time, effort and expenses. That kind of comment only comes only from someone who thinks his time is valuable, but doesn't place any value on other peoples' time.
IMHO that kind of attitude doesn't get you far in life.
