I just knew. It wasn't in the computer at all. It was a Black Friday special from last year

That's what I assumed, because it didn't come up when I searched the other day. Did you have any luck with the dewalt boxes mentioned above around this area?

Rochester. Did u actually see it, or just in the computer? I think it's just some display thing

In the computer. I'm hoping that husky box will fit on the craftsman I already have. No other deals in Newington? Did you see the jack and stands? I might keep an eye on those if they go any lower.

Yea I did see the jack stands for 25. I didn't take them. They were in the clearance rack in the center aisle behind tools. The Husky box measures exactly 26 1/4". Measure the inside of the top ridge on your roller box

Should fit then! Ya, a lady was pricing all that stuff yesterday. A nice computer to use in there is the one in the lighting, it's pretty private.

I went to some stores I had never been to today.

I found my toolbox and grinder. I didn't let the toolbox out of my site. Drove the truck today. I learned my lesson from the tool guy screwing me last time. The 13th store was the lucky one.

I call this work. I probably have drove 400 miles and spent ~ 18 hours. I'm happy I did it, but anyone that thinks this shouldn't take any work is wrong.

Now im setting my iPad down to go put that toolbox together.

Nice buy glad you finally got the box. Quick question the two boxes of nails on the right were they 44 cents? Or 11 bucks like it says on it?

Make sure you guys are looking for collated screws also. These are long skinny boxes, about 24x4x2

Penny Palooza.

Took a little trip on Friday to several of my local Home Depot stores – which included 7 stores within a 50 mile radius from my home. Purpose of the trip was to locate and purchase any of the great items that you folks have recently posted, as well as a listing of items I have been tracking for some time. Well, as expected, none of the great deals posted materialized in any of the stores I visited – which is not unusual. However, I was able to identify a few items that were either marked for clearance for a relatively long period of time, and/or were easily identified as being out of place. When I took these items to the SCO, they all came up a penny. So, like many of the Garage Journal forum members, I went back and cleared the shelf of all of these items I could find.

After filling my cart, the real battle began – that was getting the items scanned and paid for. As you may expect, this process was not without issue. As I was placing my finds in my cart at my first stop, an employee – a nice older lady who reminded me of someone’s grandmother – pleasantly asked me how I was doing and was I finding everything I was looking for. When I replied in the positive, noting the acquisition of the mugs and door guard her personality changed dramatically and she advised that I could not buy those item as they had zeroed them out and they were scheduled to be trashed. I advised her that was not the case this time as I had them in my cart and the corporate policy was that they had to sell them to me. She stated that she knew nothing about that policy, and tried to remove them from my cart. Of course I moved the cart and told her that if she had a problem she could have the Store Manager meet me at the SCO as I was on my way to same to check out. As expected, MOD was waiting for me when I approached the SCO. First thing out of his mouth was that he could not sell me all of the items for a penny, but out of the generosity of his heart he would sell me a couple of the wire clamps to me for a penny (I had 21 of them in the cart). I told him that he should contact the Store Manager to see what he has to say about same, and that I would call the Corporate HQS to get their take on same (reached for my phone but never dialed same). After two minutes he returned and told the SCO attendant to sell me all of the products in my cart. One store down, with a final cost for all of my items of .26.

Didn’t find any of the great items noted on the forum at my next stop but found an additional 39 wire clamps in various sizes. I tried to checkout through the SCO, but the attendant advised that he would have to call the manager as he could not allow me to purchase the items as they were a penny each. Found the MOD lurking at the Customer Service area – far enough so that he truly doesn’t need to help a customer, but close enough to make time with the clerk and to collect a paycheck. Of course his first response was that he could not sell me the clamps for a penny. He stated that it was Corporate Policy not to sell the items but to discard them instead. He did however agree to sell them to me for $1 each if I still wanted same. Told him if he was truly aware of his inventory, he would have known that the last clearance price on the shelf for these items was .56, and that I would not be paying that, or the price he offered. Told him that he should hold on a minute while I called the Corporate HQS so that he could talk to them after I told them what he was trying to do. Funny, but as I raised the phone to dial the number (yes, I carry the corporate number with me, as well as the name of the young lady in Customer Care who has assisted me in the past with a similar problem involving some emergency sump pumps which I later got for .01 – a story I noted previously in my first post) he quickly changed his tune and told the clerk to sell them to me for a penny.

The next few stores were uneventful. Found more wire clamps at three of the remaining 5 stores. Was able to purchase them via the SCO without incident. At one of the stores I found some Snap-N-Lock water resistant Wire Connectors (2 in a pack – sorry no SKU numbers as there was no clearance sticker and they are no longer listed in HD.COM). There were two sizes – Yellow (18-12) and Brown (18-10). Not sure as to the original price of these items but know that they were more than $6 each (I purchased some smaller versions which were priced above $5). Found a total of 4 Yellow and 9 Brown units. Not sure why, but these were not in the usual electrical area (soderless terminals/connectors) they were on a lone hanging unit in the lighting section – which caught my attention as they were out of place. Checked the price at the SCO, and they were .01. Score another find………

To make a long story short, traveled to 7 stores. Didn’t find any wire clips or other .01 items at 3 of the stores. As noted, got the “penny shuffle” from managers at two of the stores, but found two rather helpful SCO attendants at the two other stores. Not only did one help me organize the wire clamps by size, but he offered to complete the scanning of each package (which was approximately 50) at his register to make the process quicker – without a word regarding the fact that each item was a penny. The second attendant was not so helpful, but she was truly amazed once she realized that the wire clamps that I was scanning were only a penny each. She stated that they were a great price, and then asked what you used them for………

Final Talley of Penny Items:
Zero Water 5-Stage Portable Filtration Mugs (2) SKU 1001-013-385
Door Draft Guard (1) SKU 610-758
Snap-N-Lock Water Resistant Wire Connectors (13) SKU – None Available
Wire Clamps (197) See Below

Breakdown of Clamps
Small – 86 SKU: 484-701
Medium – 53 SKU: 485-064
Large – 58 SKU: 485-592

All-in-all not a bad haul for a day’s work (I started my run at 10:00 – completed it at 3:00). Total cost for the Penny Items - $2.26 with tax. Found some other clearance items as well – a LINKSYS Wi-Fi Range Extender N300 ($15.03/SKU ); Defiant 2 Pack 130 Lumen LED Flashlights ($5.02/SKU 1000-053-323); and, USB-Micro 6” Bendable Cord ($3.86/SKU 0000-231-327).

Whereas I have not been as lucky as some finding some of the large dollar items, or the nice tools noted in this forum, I have been lucky with respect to finding penny items. The list of items I have found include two TIVO locks and another electronic door locks -courtesy of the MET Team who left them clearly marked as penny items in a cart of junk which they were using to clean the area, nine (9) 4 Gallon Sprayers (told my family members to use them in their gardens or as big squirt guns, etc.), several diamond plate work lights, and 2 1000 Lumen Portable LED Work lights and I am ecstatic each time I am successful in finding one of these elusive items (my wife has joined me on some of these “shopping trips” and she takes delight in finding items that I overlook). From an economic standpoint, today was not my most prolific day, but from a sheer volume perspective, this has been a good day. Not sure at this time what I will do with all the wire clamps, but believe that several of my projects (to include a 1952 Chevy Truck Hot Rod) as well as those of family and friends will find a way to put a big dent in them.

Lesson Learned: When you find those penny items, be prepared to stand toe-to-toe with the HD managers. They do not want to sell the items, as it will get back to corporate that they are failing to adequately control their inventory, but when countered with HD Corporate Policy they seem to eventually acquiesce. Good luck in your searches……

The one on top was $.44 and I did pay 11 bucks for the one on the bottom. I have a use for them and it wasn't a bad deal.

Anyone have something to trade for the galv 30 deg nails?

Grizz -- congrats on being a Good Hunter! No, I'm not going to accuse you of being a Slick Deals *****.

I went toe to toe with Jabba the Hutt today over another 6-pack of penny items that shall remain nameless. What's funny is that when I hit the register, I had the same experience you did -- the items rang up at 6@$0.01, and the cashier promptly over-rode the price and tried to raise the price on each item to $17.50 or so, thereby adding $115 to my bill!

I told her there was NFW that I would let them jack my bill for another $115 and I demanded that they sell the items for the original ring-up price of $0.01. A call to the manager ensued. Like your guy, he offered to sell them to me for $1.00 each. Now that wasn't a particularly bad deal, but I didnt' like the fact that he was trying to make me pay an extra $5.94 CYA fee to cover for his lousy inventory management.

I countered by telling him that he was trying to rob me by charging 100x of the price that the register said I should pay, and that the extra $0.99 per item was a CYA expense that was only designed as a way to protect him from being punished for being bad at his job. That, and according to state law, I was entitled to pay the penny price. He wouldn't budge. He claimed that HD prohibits the sale of penny items.

I countered by offering to pay the $0.06, if he was willing to personally pitch in the $5.94 fee for manager-***-coverage, suggesting that if he wanted *** protection then it was his job to pay for it. He didn't agree with me.

Boy was he stupid. He should have taken my offer. A call to 800 C/S followed. The long and short of it is that he got a schooling and I walked out paying $0.06.

Moral of the story -- THE HD MGMT SEEMS TO HAVE A UNIFIED PLAN TO MOVE PENNY ITEMS UP TO $1.00 TO AVOID BEING FLOGGED FOR SELLING PENNY ITEMS. THIS IS AN ATTEPMT AT CYA FOR THEIR SLOPPY INVENTORY MANAGEMENT. STAND YOUR GROUND. REFUSE TO PAY AN ADDED FEE TO PROTECT THEM FROM BEING ACCOUNTABLE FOR BEING BAD AT THEIR JOB. CALL 800 C/S IF YOU HAVE TO -- THEY *WILL* HELP YOU.

which locks were they? do you have SKUs or links?
Thanks
Locks are located in the garage in my storage area (which is basically the entire 2 car garage - I share the space with my 52 Chevy Truck, tool boxes, storage shelving, and a handicap ramp that my daughter uses. Introduction to this site was based on a desire to build a separate 3 car garage to house all of my stuff - as well as hide from the wife since my recent retirement - always seem to be doing something wrong now that I am under foot more - ready to go back overseas or war zone - much easier to survive...). Will pull them out in the AM and see what I can find any identifying info on same. One of the boxes had a handwritten note on it clearly identifying it as a penny item (will include photo).

Rather think of myself as a high class ******, but considering the fact that I can be made happy with a penny deal think the Slickdeal ***** title may be more appropriate. What some of us will do to save a buck. Just think what I might be willing to do if only one of you gentlemen wanted to get rid of one of those nice Dewalt/Milwaukee tool boxes I have been lusting for...... (only kidding)

Thanks SPN1025. Fits great, only difference is the craftsman top I already have is slightly deeper, so it sticks out over the husky box maybe a half inch or so. Someone had taken it down because it wasn't up high anymore. Older lady at the SCO was too busy chatting with someone that she never noticed the yellow on the screen. As I was walking out she was like wow, nice box huh, you will be able to store all your stuff in there... Jack stands were still there. Also saw the conduit kit for TV mounting that goes behind the wall at 13.03 from like 59.**. Might grab one of it goes penny.

NIKON5400,

Need to apologize. Typed my note late last night and didn't have the locks in front of me. The locks I referred to are Kwikset KEVO locks (SKU: 1000-020-942), not TIVO. See pictures of the two I found below, along with a Kwikset Signature Series deadbolt (can not find a SKU on the package, or was the lock still listed on HD.COM). Hope this helps, although I know that the search for these locks has been ongoing for some time. Think I was just lucky enough to find them due to the fact that the MET Team and employees were cleaning the aisles when I was in the store - as I am sure that I would not have found them if they weren't in their cart with the notation of the one unit being a penny (they wrote .01 all over the box - not sure if it was for their use, or just inadvertent advertizing). Hope this helps.....

That's really cool, just like the keyless system in my Ram. Want to double your money? :p
