After reading every page of this thread and after much mentoring from all of the 1 cent masters, I finally found my unicorn. Thank you to all my GJ brothers who take the time to post their tips, tricks, techniques and finds.

The screws were located in San Luis Obispo, CA. The nails were in Santa Maria, CA. The funny things is the screw were not on clearance in Santa Maria - a store only 30 minutes away. I don't understand how Home Depot works. No problem using SCO at either store.

When I bought the nails the clerk says to me as I was walking out - "How did you do that?" "Do what?" I say. "Get that for a penny?" I say "That's what it rang up for." and I walked out. The secret is safe with me boys! Sorry about the orientation (first time posting pics)

I got rooked out of a penny deal last week. They had the bar code blakened out but the item was still on shelf. Couldn't scan at the SCO so associate helped out :shocking: Ended up getting nails for a dollar. I was happy but not as happy as I could have been

Congrats. It's all downhill from here. That first one makes it even more addicting. [emoji16]

Wtf man?

I've never seen any grip rites for closeout or penny in multiple states.

I see some on the computer but never in the store to be found. I actually see a lot on the computer so I'd take a long time to search each by part number.

They are pretty much wiped out now, but the trick is to compare what's on their "new" nailer/nail display with what's in the overhead. At this point it's too late in the game, but that's what I did. Anything that was in the overhead but not on the display, with a few exceptions, was 50/44/42/1 cent

Yep, I knew this part. I guess my area is just always free of these deals.

One thing I've noticed since looking for items is how empty the OHs are in my local stores. Back when I worked at HD (20 years ago yeesh doesn't seem like that long) the OHs were packed full of stock. Now they are pretty barren.

Interesting as Bernie and Arthur built HD on giving the impression of loads of over stock. They actually put empty boxes in the OH to sell the illusion back in the day.

A store employee told me HD is beginning to transition to a "Walmart type stocking" where top stock will be minimized or even eliminated. Everything will be down for customers to grab themselves and if it's not on the shelf, it's pretty certain they don't have it. No more searching and trying to get help finding something that may be stocked up high.

That transition you're referring to corresponds exactly with my in-store observations. Although it's been reported by some that the stores in the big cities have deep inventory in spite of having a small footprint, that's just not the case around here. The upper rafters are naked now. If an item is not reachable by the customer then it's on the second shelf, and things that are on the third shelf are limited to DNI items that are out of the way, and reserve stock for the huge items that are so big that they can't keep them on the floor -- things like toilets, rolling tool carts, sinks, cabinets, etc. In most of the aisles the top tier of the stacks is now totally barren.

That's bad for hunters, but it's good for HD on several levels. Improved logistics and JIT-inventory means that they have less capital ******* in the stores and they don't have to waste wage money by having employees running around to find things. If it's not there, they don't have it. Good for the bottom line, bad for the shopper.

I am beginning to see some departments in some stores make that transition as well.

did you check the Price Check app on those Hitachi guns? Everything "Hitachi" around here has pennied out already, with the exception of the roofing nailer (which is the only Hitachi nailer they carried), but even that is at final clearance price (although sold out everywhere).

Even the HD website is giving 40% off a lot of the Hitachi nailers

Had two boxes of these that had been on the clearance rack for weeks. Figured I might as well check them as SCO to see if they were penny status and they were. Bought them both.

Got this as well. Floor model. Have been watching for one but thought my chances of finding a Weber Q on clearance were low. Got lucky I guess.

I need one of those Suncast cooler station but the website says online order only :(

That's because they've gone to clearance. They will not show on the website after a certain stage of clearance. Even if they are still in stock at stores. Hence the reason for everyone's leg work and hitting store after store after store.

I lied. All Karcher pressure washers on cheap clearance.

Sold out at my store. I'll have to check the other local stores. I need a half decent pressure washer

Anyone still have Karcher at their store? I think they are long gone in this area. That 2800 psi is a steal if you can find it. I have no clue about the quality of Karcher, but you can't go wrong at that price
