Just about walked out with a penny bathroom vanity but that's twice now that I've been stopped by the checker and no amount of arguing between myself and my girlfriend would get them to budge. They discounted the original price slightly but it wasn't enough to make it worth it.

If it's a bigger item, going to SCO won't help much. It's a social experiment to get them to agree to the penny price.

There's a few penny vanities and braided stainless hoses at the stores we've been to. Everything else (big name brand) were not discounted and/or gone. Only one had a blower listed but couldn't find it.

I find it's easier to get a deal using gift cards from target/ebay rolling and receiving 20%+ off the clearance price (if I find a clearance item).

The checker at the door, who checks receipts? I don't understand why people are talking about paying more after they already have a receipt. I'd tell them they are welcome to call the police and walk right out the door. For that matter, I'd be happy to wait for the police to show up just for the entertainment.

Are you guys literally paying just ONE PENNY for these items? I don't understand. Is this some type of GJ code talk, or is this to be interpreted literally? I keep seeing a toddler in a shopping basket. What does that mean?

Not sure if anyone posted this before.

That item number is $99.00 at HD now (12/27/15). The yellow shelf tag in the photo above is dated 7/16/15.

Not penny's but still a very good deal on this garage door opener. Was the last one in stock that I was able to find.

Thought i was going to get a deal on this returned / repaired pressure washer too but it rang up according the discount tag, I showed the cashier this picture I took from the Price Checker App and she was going to discount it BUT it required a manager's approval... Manager showed up with an attitude, wife was waiting on me in the truck so I didn't even push the issue.

Thinking about going back for the pressure washer, Any advice?

That's the reconditioned SKU. I would have argued that they were selling a reconditioned for more than a NEW one, which should have been $29. They also should have given you 10% off the NEW price.
I think I've mentioned this like 10 times in the past 2 weeks lol.

Are you sure it was the Honda model? If so, ask for the manager. If that doesn't help, call corporate and tell them exactly what I said.

When you call corporate, don't say the word "reconditioned". Just say they are selling it for more than retail under a generic SKU, and they are not honoring the $29 that it's listed at

Thank you! I've started to reading through this entire thread but 544 pages is going to take a while.

It is YOUR property once it's paid.

FWIW, it's actually NOT yours, even if you paid the penny, if you are still in store. If you walk out with it after they tell you it is an error, you could be charged with shoplifting. Not saying they would go that far, just that the legally could.

Hmm not so sure about that. If they stop you after you have a receipt, you are under no obligation to them, and technically could take them to court for harassment.

In my case earlier, the SCO guy literally grabbed my cart to stop me, while I had my daughter in the cart. I should have knocked him out right there

These were the strikes against corporate policy:
- refusing to sell penny item
- stopping customer from leaving, employees are NOT allowed to stop someone from leaving, even if it were theft
- harassing me AFTER I had my receipt

These I could have called the police about:
- grabbing my cart while my daughter was in it
- trying to take the stuff I paid for out of my cart
- harassing me when I was under no obligation to them

Explain to me how that is possible if you would? A receipt is a bill of sale. If you have a bill of sale, you own it.

If I purchase something, and go back to the store two days later with it and the receipt, do they then own that item again when I walk back into the store or do i?

It may sound ridiculous, but so is the idea that the inventory is ever at 1 penny. It not my fault their system is forgiving.

You showed good restraint, it'd be difficult not to level someone stopping you with your kid in-between you and him. :twak:

Whenever I get a HD good deal...... I quickly run to my truck (after paying for it) and drive really fast to my home. :3gears:
BTW! I always look in my rear view to make sure there is not a orange security vehicle following me then call my friends to tell them what a great deal I just got.

Comes up as $50.00 on the computer.

Dad has been wanting that for well over a year. He got a lot of the Ryobi stuff when they started marking it down and we both have been watching that item but it's been marked $99.00 since probably fall of 2014. Looked about a week ago and was still $99, might have to stop again tomorrow and see if it's cheaper/that store has any deals.

We bought this for $575 plus tax. Been looking for another garage box for awhile, came with some sockets and stuff in it too, they marked it to $575 after speaking with a manger about the small dent in front.

Ok, so I had PM'd Spn1025 a bit ago, but wanted a little more input. I have read the thread linked in his signature, and was wondering for those of yall who look for penny deals a lot, do you have a standard list of terms that you search for in the price checker app? Like "chain saw" and then "delta" for the faucets, etc etc etc...... or is there another way without going through a million keywords in the pricechecker app? I am trying this out for the first time tomorrow.

Thanks.

i was able to get on the store computer and searching a brand like "dewalt" and sorting the results by clearance yielded the best results. this is something that takes some time to learn, but i'm getting there. I've had a few penny deals so far.

You typically will not find penny deals by searching the pc.

A receipt is not a "bill of sale" until you leave the premises, typically interpreted as the parking lot. For that matter, technically, it's not a bill of sale until the payment settles, typically three days later for a credit card sale. Get it onto a public road and you are safe - if they approach you in the store, not safe, and maybe not in the parking lot.

Again, what they legally could do and what they will do may be very different things. My point her is just to make people aware there could be consequences, so they can make informed choices. On another forum a couple of people ended up with jail time over a similar situation and advice, just want people to be aware of the range of possibilities.

Link to your friends on another forum. Im sure they ended up with jail time for actually breaking a law. Refusing a retail employee " I changed my mind i dont want to sell it to him after he paid for it" isnt against the law.

you could just type ECHO 490 and it should come up. :)

Realized this after I posted. They weren't penny, or even on clearance.

Got a penny drill holster that is probably useless. Husky technician boxes dropped to $8.83, I picked one up.

It is not easy. Try to search for what you want. Every store is different.

That's insane. The blower Spn1025 picked up for a penny is $299.99 at my Home Depot.

EACH and EVERY store is different. Difference clearance at different times. You have to literally check inventory every time to see if they have a deal. Penny deals aren't easy to find. Don't keep thinking one store will have the same penny deal as another.

Its easier to find **.x2 & **.x3 items on clearance rather than try to find penny stuff.

Tried my local HD, yet again, zero penny deals that I could find.

That is the norm, finding penny deals is not typical and no one should think it should be, it is very local specific and some are just lucky to be in the right area's where lots of homework can result in great deals. To clarify, not saying it's down to luck but some regions would result in zero penny deals regardless of how much searching one does etc.

Most should be focused on finding "deals", not necessarily penny deals.

Schlage TouchScreen Connect Deadbolts on clearance in some stores.
690687 is 50.03 everywhere (or a penny)
690489 and 690621 are 50.03 in some stores, not others.
All used to be 199$
These are Z Wave compatible, and have a built in alarm that can work by itself.
You can make them alarm if someone messes with the lock or only if someone shakes the door.

If anyone in the DFW area finds an extra Chamberlain garage door opener, could you please let me know. I have checked several stores and none have the wd850kevg even listed in the computer. I found one store that had the HD520evg listed at $84.04 but none in stock. My old craftsman chain opener is getting really loud!
