Items not in the system we're pretty much screwed trying to get, right?

It's manager's discretion. Could be free, could be a discount, or he may charge full price.

Ask for THE store manager, not a mod or department manager. Go on the store details page on HD.com to find his/her name (and a mug shot lol).

Don't waste your time asking any other employees

On the other hand, I did find a doorknob the other day that came up not found. SCO lady said, "oh well, not on inventory. This one is free"

A generator might be another story though

Those aren't all the right ones. I see two for sure but.

No, they aren't. But oddly enough there's just framers and finish nailers. And a bunch of stuff in the back with clearance tags.

One of the employees at my HD told me this evening that the employees put stuff up in the rafters once they start to drop in price, looking to get a good deal on stuff.

I once found a moen faucet in the clearance section that came up not found, turns out it was an actual online only item that was returned to the store they wouldnt take anything less than the online price so I passed.

I found stores around here remove stuff before it even goes through the entire clearance cycle. One store had 6 of the xt260 Makita kits that are still $115 but eventually drop to $49. In the overhead one week, gone the next.

The one time I found something that was truly no longer in the system (Husky tool set from 2014 black Friday), the MOD handed it to me and told me to have a Merry Christmas

yep, definitely the li-ion one. thanks for the response, i was pretty sure the pc price checker was congruent with sco, but couldnt remember for sure.

is there a good way to check inventory and prices at all other local stores on the pc price checker? ie. when i am at a store on the 'north' end of the city it only shows stock for other stores on the 'north' end, and omits the stores on the 'south' end and vice versa... also, the prices at the stores vary in that maybe a product is $100 at one 'north' store and $300 at another 'north' store... is there a way for me to identify the pricing before driving to the other store other than calling and hoping a clueless-sounding female operator picks up?<so as not to tip employees off to the deal>
No

I stand corrected. Must be only select stores clearancing them then. Similar to the CS-x90 chainsaws.

I called about six stores and had them run the SKU 473-484 and I just picked up another in a few towns over from me. They had one left. A close friend's son is a manager in on of the Boston stores and he gave me a few stores that might have one. According to him they are being dumped in three weeks if there any left. Four of the six stores the hardware guy basically blew me off to get of phone with me. I got lucky twice locally. It is worth a try having them run the SKU.

You'll lose more than you get trying to call a store about a hot low-priced clearanced item.

I too see a lot of the items removed (or something) once they even get 10% off. I saw a bunch of faucets only $10 off original prices of $175 & up but all inventory gone. Have a hard time believing people here would think that's a reason to buy but this place is pretty backwards.

they won't take them at any stores around here. they will only take a coupon/price match if it's for the exact same item/model number, which rules out that and any harbor freight % off coupons.

Visited with two employees both said they have gotten baskets full of penny items from management because they see when they it goes on a penny. I asked if that was ok with their policy? They said yes, we all get them. One of the perks for working at hd." I asked him to share the love and when he sees me looking to let me score one item or two. We will see. That is why large penny items are not to be found in that store.

Looks like everyone is buying them and reselling them on ebay. Ebay is flooded with these at the moment. I am adding this one to my collection of framing nail guns. [emoji1]

Spoke with 2 H.D. tool dept "managers" at 2 different stores; one yesterday, and the other today. I asked about the penny sale items, and got nearly identical answers from both. They told me that H.D. uses the .01 item price as an internal code to pull the item from shelves, to "dispose". I said there are stores that are selling items for a penny, or just giving the item to the customer without ringing it up. They said that is absolutely in defiance of corporate policy.

That may vary store to store, but the stores here in this tiny state are under one district manager, and whoever that is, he seems to drive the point home to store employees, because I have never seen an item marked .01 . Wish I did. You guys that are scoring these deals are very lucky.

Yeah i don't do the ebay selling. Too much of a pain and i hate the fees. Been selling everything locally and it works out just fine. What small things don't sell they work perfect as gifts ha.

You guys are killing me with all of the Paslodes - I'm convinced the few stores I've been to with 4ish+ shown in inventory have been stashing them - couldn't find anything other than a crappy display and beat up return here and there. Damn.

On a little road trip - will see if I can hit a few stores on the way back through.

People throughout these threads have reported all kinds of stories from staff as to what individual stores policies might be...

Woman the other day at local HD helped me look for the Paslodes and told me straight up that they throw most clearance items in the trash - she also showed me the "spot where clearance items end up getting staged to be pulled" - hoping that pays off.

So I went back and ran the UPC on the generator. HD is selling homelite generators now with the same UPC, it showed clearance at around $499. I've seen the same thing with tile saw blades, I found and old Husky brand one that looked like it was sitting under a shelf for a decade. It had the same UPC as a KD blade (different SKU). I learned my lesson, UPCs > SKUs

Stopped by another store that had the most penny item hostile employees. Talked to a manager about a 40V Ryobi display, he swore I wouldn't get a single penny item out the door and he wasn't the only one. I went right through SCO with some doorknobs. Trying to decide if I should go back and get the two grills they have and test out my luck with corporate. I'd really only be getting them out of spite so maybe I'll just let it go.

I worked at HD for two years as a second job - in the hardware department. We were prohibited from buying the penny markdowns! You wouldn't believe what I saw go into the compactor. That's where the penny markdowns were supposed to go.

That only fuels my desire to continue to find them. How wasteful.

I stay around the philly stores, and a few other locations that have been good to me down south.

I forget which one I was in, Burlington?, saw a garage door opener for the 42.** price but I didn't take it.

I'm sitting on about a million saw blades and a temp2o I can't cut loose. Shoot me a pm if you need anything specific ill try to look for you.

Stay over on your side of the bridge. :D Lawnside, Deptford and Berlin are the only ones I check for HD but don't go there to often. I have better luck with lowes. Haven't been that lucky with HD yet, need to hit them up this weekend, see if I can find some of the door knobs since I need a few sets anyway.

Anybody in the Bay Area finding any of these deals?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yes, I stopped at a few stores today and picked up a 10" blade & six 8" blades for pennies. I also found 3 paslode framing nailers. Bought 2 because not sure how quickly I will be able to get rid of them.

Where are you in the Bay Area?

Long day four stores and a lot of striking out but ran into an old friend I haven't seen in years so not all bad.

Couldn't find them.

Husky items on sale

Schlage since I haven't seen them listed. They seem to change based on the store. So does pricing.
View media item 57019
This is an old nailer, nowhere to be found but was slightly hopeful since it said two no luck.
View media item 57018
Haven't seen this one posted yet, but alas again none in stock.
View media item 57017
3 paslode nailers. Sticker 300$. price checked at $100. I don't need another and have no interest in trying to sell them. Two were brand new and one looked used/display. Located in the Watchung, NJ store. If someone wants me to grab them to meet up and trade for something in the tri-state are let me know.
View media item 57016
Also, encountered my first store today that let me buy a penny item no argument. Schlage lock I didn't feel like fighting about so walked up to the woman at SCO and asked if she was going to let me buy it as it was a penny. She said you found it so you can keep it. That was a nice change. So one out the ten local stores at least isn't bad.

I was in Biloxi, MS. last weekend, made a quick trip to New Orleans and back on Saturday and holy macaroni! Wish I lived out that way, I bet I spotted 10 (maybe 15) HD's right off the highway in a 90 min trip.

I only found enough time to stop at the one HD off i10 north of Biloxi. No computers set up for customers so I took a seat in the doors and windows department. Young girl was working close by, made a little small talk and disappeared. 10 minutes later she was back with another employee and said she could work the computer for me but couldn't let me do it any more, "store policy"... So she sat her *** there and worked the computer for me for a good 30 minutes. Made things a little more difficult but she was sweet enough, caught a few deals that I missed (hard to scan standing 4 feet from the monitor), and even pointed me in the right direction on a few things that didn't have a home.

Had to put the big ladder to work on a few items but I cleaned them out of just about everything attached below. Only thing I decided to wait on was the Diesel cans. I could use one but it wasn't that great of a deal and my local area has plenty so I'll just keep an eye on them and hope they clearance out too.
