First time seeing Knipex in a Home Depot around here. Hopefully this trend continues.

Nothing going today. Computer showed 1 Bosch 235 ft laser measurer and 1 haysfield faucet. Couldn't find either on the shelf.

It's gotta be that two year old kid. That's the secret. It is disarming. What is an HD employee going to say to a dad carrying a two year old infant around? SPN1025 always, ALWAYS carts his kid with him when he scores his penny deals.

Is there a place where you can rent an infant for an afternoon?

SPN1035 child is the spotter, that's how he's finding all the great deals.

SPN is just the chauffeur driving her around.

I think he uses her to get the items from the top shelf when he cant find a ladder :spit:

I can tell you this - it doesn't go as smoothly with a 14 year old girl. They lose interest right about when you pull in the parking lot and they see where you are. :)

I picked up the last one in my area for $57.03, right on time. Definitely a good buy, had positive experiences with Moen. Warranty is superb.

Negative, at first it did not ring up at SCO so the attendant came over and scanned it then went back to her system. Thought I might have scored but she came back with the $57.03 price even-though the old sales tag. Thought it was still a good deal so I picked it up.

Just a heads up that the new pricing model might be starting to roll out?

My dad was in the market for a small portable air compressor, we live 2 miles from each other and have the same home store. I spotted a pile of Husky compressors all with yellow $99 clearance stickers so I snapped a picture and sent it to him.

He got to the store the next day and every single one of them had yellow $169 clearance stickers on top of the old $99 clearance stickers. I find it hard to believe they would raise the clearance price on something unless they were rolling out their (rumored) change to the clearance pricing strategy.

Ive seen clearance items come off clearance and go back to regular price, long before the rumored pricing changes. Im not sure what triggers it but it has happened (example: M18 compact blower was clearanced for 25.03...I bought the last one at that price. 2 weeks later same store has more back in stock at the $79.00 normal price)

I've seen items come off clearance too, but this one stayed clearance... it just went up by $70. He pealed back the yellow $169 and you could see the yellow $99 underneath it.

He didn't feel like ******* around with the managers and ended up liking a clearance dewalt better instead.

Odd.

But yes, if he found the 99.00 DeWalt quiet compressor, its probably a better deal (even though less storage tank size)

So I've been reading this thread for many, many months, many finally this morning went to the local Home Depot. What I don't see there are any clearance items with .03 or .06 on the yellow clearance tags.

I also looked around the store for some of the items recently mentioned as penny finds and didn't see any

I did read that some regions seem to act differently than others with these extreme markdowns. I'm in upstate New York. Before I give up, Any thoughts ???? I'd really love to join the ranks of the penny punchers who seem to snag amazing finds at HD. Thanks v much

Btw, I also look at the Lowes clearance thread, and went there this a.m. As well, and picked up some 500-packs of cable ties for a buck and change each, and three different hammers marked down to under five bucks each from the 20s. Lowes also doesn't seem to have any one spot for clearance stuff and instead keeps them where they've been sitting with clearance tags. But I guess nothing as extreme as the penny buys at the depot

Does anyone know how often home depot marks things down? I'm watching the m12 1/2 hammer drill kit, and was wondering when it would get marked down again

Associate gave me that weird look when I asked, doesn't this thing cost a penny? :p
Pricing varies from store to store, but I haven't come across any store in the NY Metropolitan area giving penny deals. They have no inventory system at the Customer Service Desk for customers to access.

I really believe the employees grab all the deals in my AO

When I got the paslode for 100.03 I saw another employee chastising the one that got the stairs to get it down out of the rafters for me. Definitely employees scamming the system here.

Same here, except it was manager.. Moment it hit $100, I saw this manager taking all 3 and display, put it in cart, wheel it back to receiving or wherever. He told me it being held for customer pickup order.. BS... There is no hold for clearance item.
Another store close by had 6 in count inventory,, none to be found.. No wonder I can't find I penny items or super clearance items.. Big time employees, manager getting all the goods.

Went today to my local HD, there's a computer near garden center, I checked on it, only penny deals was stuff like garden flags and useless stuff, I searched "Garden" "trimmer" "compressor" keywords, any tips on how to search..

BTW a employ just steeped and asked if all was ok, told him I was checking some prices and went away

Most of the penny deals will not be in the computer.

In fact, when something is on the shelf and not in the computer, its a good indication that WILL be a penny item.

Yesterday's take. One watts valve was a penny (free), one sharkbite was a penny and the two locks were penny's.. At least until I made a rookie mistake and had too much **** to scan at once. Paid final clearance price, whatever.

Everything else was last clearance price except the varathane - kona - $1.00
Garage floor paint - $1.00
Epoxy shield - $10.00

well fwiw, just remember #1 rule is to never call.
i had your situation pop up at a store when i was looking for one of the little husky racing jacks. i called late one night and talked to a guy 'nick' to check the price and verify stock at a far flung store... he said 3 in stock and reminded me that they are first come first serve, in a tone that connotated more of a warning than a reminder... so i drove out the next night and walked down an aisle looking for the jack and overheard 'nick', who i previously verfied via nametag, tell an off-duty employee that he 'spotted these husky jacks last night' and hid them in the overhead until his wife got paid on friday...
so yea in lots of stores the help is the furthest from it.

What's the best way to price check? Going up to the self check out scanning and walking away repeatedly looks soo suspicious...

I was just in the Champaign IL store. They still had 3 tool carts, 5 racing jacks and a couple different tool boxes on clearance. They are still there.

Yes, that has been my experience. If you scan more than an item or two, or come back more than once they watch you like a hawk.

I just tell them I'm looking for penny deals and give them a big ****-eating grin

I grilled the lady in appliances in Methuen MA today. Tried to use the comp there to check some prices and she came flying over yelling at me. "You can't be on the computer get off of that". "I'm just checking a price". "I'll check it for you". "I'll check it myself, you can stop bugging me, if you don't like it, go cry to your boss. Its corporate policy that customers can use these. Keep harassing me and I'll report you".

She finally walked away in a pissy mood. She came over yelling at me to begin with.

Just had a HD employee yank 3 backflow preventers from my cart while looking at faucets. They were pennies. I asked if I could get them at last clearance price and she said no and took them to the back. Guy up front said he could go back and get them from her if I wanted one and I just said screw it and left. Not worth the argument.

In my local HD yesterday and talked to one of my favorite cashiers at the SCO. I have bought hundreds of dollars worth while hes been working and talk to him all the time. He sees me checking prices all the time and asked me if I had ever had anything ring up a penny. "Yeah, a time or two" I reply. He tells me if they ring up we have to give them to you. Looks like no hiding it when he is working. Now I just need one of the $100s of dollar penny deals to test his word.

I went to HD yesterday to scope things out. The items in the " rafters" are mostly extras of what's on ground level. I did notice that the Self Check Out had 5 employees standing by it. What exactly is the cost savings of having more employees than self checkouts?

Well, I went back for the Paslode today that did not have a jacket/sku on it. Went through the checkout and played dumb since the thing had no SKU and had the spiderweb security ******** it. I did have the SKU on my phone and the SCO clerk tried to scan it off the phone but it wouldn't work. Manually keyed and and gave me the "we can't sell this for a penny" and called the MOD. The MOD came over and give me the same speil. I asked for the store manager and was told he was at lunch and would be back in an hour.

Gonna head back shortly. Any advice??
