Interesting night tonight, ranting ahead skip to end for found deals. Went to return two of the epoxyshield kits (tan) as I don't need them since I found enough in grey. Return went fine, the wife has asked if I continue to clearance shop find a new washing machine. No problem. Do a quick walk through and find nothing of interest except that ridgid extension cord that should be penny anyday. Walk over the outward facing computer and sit down. Immediately a staffer comes over and tells me I can't be on it and I won't be getting any penny deals. I say ok would she like me to get off the computer? She informs me again I won't get any penny deals. Very rude tone. This the third time in the store in 2 weeks each time harassed that I can't buy penny items and can't be on the computer. I stayed polite and informed her that the MOD will have to inform me I am not allowed on the computer and I told her if I find an item on the shelf within customer reach I am allowed to buy said item. Mike, one of the assistant manager, let me purchase a milwaukee bit set two days prior (when I bought nearly $100 of epoxy). She mumbles and hopes on a phone on the other side of the pro desk, short phone call and scampers off.

Not two minutes later I hear a loud voice exclaim What do you think you are doing? Turn my head to see Dan. I inform him politely that I am looking up clearance washers because there was no one in the department to help me. Dan:Well we won't see you any penny items, it is not corporate policy, I can take anything out of your hands before you leave the store even if it rings out a penny, you will not buy any penny items.
Me:Okay, and who might you be?
Dan: I'm Dan the assistant store manager and my associate told me you were going to buy penny items.
Me: I'm looking up washers not penny items. Am I allowed to be on the computer?
Dan: Yea, I don't care as long as you don't try to buy any penny items.
Me: As you can see on the screen there are washers.
Dan: Well your always on the computer and in my store we don't sell penny items.
Me: Mike the other assistant manager sold me one two days ago.
Dan: I don't care what Mike did, I'm telling you, you will not buy any penny items!

I kinda lost at that point, I informed him it was corporate policy as long as it was where any customer could reach to sell penny items, just not in quantity. I was allowed to use the computer no matter what he said. I am a long standing customer of HD and regardless of the deals/penny deals I spend a good amount of money with them. Between my father and I we take care of 8-10 houses. 6 of them being tenant houses so we are always there and all of them were remodeled using HD. This harassment in my view kinda broke the camels back. I've never called HD customer relations but they will be getting a phone call tomorrow in an attempt to straighten this store. If that fails, I will continue to research solely look for penny items within that store. I will then call family, friends, co-workers to pick items up and try to get them through SCO out of shear principal. I find it odd that I can visit literally 15 other stores and not have any problems but the closest store to me is nothing but a headache and is the least visited for deal shopping.

Anyway end rant/

New deals I haven't seen posted. They are half off but not the usual structure we see.

if youre not at a checkout with a penny item in your hand then you should not be talking to an hd employee about penny items... dont even engage in the conversation if/when they bring up pennies. youre acting like a dolt.

q.'what are you doing on the computer?'

a.
just checking prices.
just checking stock.
just comparing products.
just checking come specs.
just checking some dimensions.

q. 'can i help you?'
a. 'no i dont need help, but i will let you know if i do. thanks'

Why would you draw attention to yourself so much?

And why even acknowledge you even know what a penny item is?

I just pull up the Behr paint on the website on the computer and say I'm reading reviews to pick one.

Went to HD tonight and talked to my friend that I talk to to every time I'm there. I asked him about the price lookout and he just took me to the website. I told him I wanted to see what the had on clearance and he said he could look it up with his phone but that was it. Am I asking the wrong questions? He told me they had inventory coming up and would be willing to give me some pretty good discounts. But not like you guys are finding
Why are you asking a store employee to show you where the section is on the computer to show you where a deal might be? You know they work there 40 hours a week and are friends with other employees?

bosch table saw and stand at half price at one area store.

Is the stand separate? I saw the stand at a bunch of stores right after I bought the Bosch gts1031 for $48 (reg price $79) and I was going to wait it out for the price to drop. Now I can't find it anywhere aside from at regular price

I didn't budge and continued my searches, they never said a word til the end and just asked if I needed any help. Had her try to track down this tool box for me, unfortunately the only store around with any was still full price at $9xx.**

6 of these in Omaha, but listed online for full price... May have to swing up to HD to check prices.

No hope of any penny deals at my local HD. They just finished going through scanning everything in the overheads and putting new SKU stickers on. They just did inventory a few months ago, so I don't know what brought this on. Has anyone seen this done before?

ya beat me to it. I picked up 3 last night. Decent reviews at the $60-$70 price, so should be pretty good for $18

any reason people are posting thumbnails and not bigger pictures? I don't need my screen filled, but these thumbnails are a bit too tiny

You guys are kidding yourselves, if you think that security/management don't know exactly what you're doing on those computers. Most of the associates are still clueless, but not so much those behind the cameras, and management. If you're working the same stores often enough to find penny deals and even .03 deals that are so often not obvious, you are not unnoticed. Don't fool yourselves into thinking all of these stores are clueless to what you are doing, just because you haven't been approached.

And does it matter if those behind the camera know what people are doing? Are they doing something against HD. Policy? Is it wrong to look up what's on sale and try to buy it?! Geez

Sounds like they need to spend more time managing their inventory at the store and less time harassing customers. If they want to prevent penny deals, then they should be focused on having a well managed store and prevent those items from being on the floor. It's not your fault they left items out that were not supposed to be.
I like the response from the manager of someone else on here. His manager took it as a personal challenge to be better at managing the inventory at the store and not be spiteful of people who find his mistakes. Instead look at it as a learning opportunity.
Sounds to me that he is probably taking the penny items for himself and is bitter you are taking 'his paycheck'.

Some stores pull product at penny levels, so it all depends on the store. If the manager didn't want you buying penny deals, he should be all over HIS associates to do their job and pull the product. The job of the customer is to buy the product on the shelf. If they don't want it sold, then don't let me access it.

Say no to me if:

* it's up high and i need ladder
* if it is in your backroom, even if the computers says their is stock
* if it has truely been recalled

otherwise, if I can reach it, I can buy it.

If they truely didn't want to sell penny items, they would change the price to something crazy like 999.99, then readjust the price when they need to take the write off. I doubt that would be hard for their IT department to implement, but they don't. That leads me to believe it should be sold. Stupid to mark it to a penny, but that's on them

What's the deal with the yellow staircase anyway?

Unless it's really old and in poor condition, the yellow staircase will have a sign on it that clearly says something like "For Associate and Customer Use"..

What are you guys talking about the two tank Husky air compresor. Just saw 4 this morning at a local store with the 99 dollar tag on it.

Some stores have a lot, some stores have none.

Ive heard its a copy of one of the California Air compressors but I havent heard if its the same quality, etc.

My take is, for 99, if you can find the DeWalt quiet compressor thats also on clearance, get that instead (the DeWalt has less storage capacity but that might not be an issue depending on your use)
