They said the store should have sold the items for a penny. They apologized and said that they would call the store and forward the complaint to the district office of the store since the security team should have handled it better and should have never came into contact with me. I told them if it ever happened again there would be a lawsuit, they are not allowed to do anything until you step out the door and even if I did I had a receipt.

I would have been laughing my *** off.

"the manager came over and accused me of scanning a phony upc and asked me how I did it and where it was" - Me: "I guess Corporate or the manufacturer printed the phony UPC sir" (Depends if you scanned the items upc or the markdown upc)

I think I would have emphasized that one of their employees bumped you like they were some sort of bouncer at a bar. Surely if you did that to one of their employees they would have plenty to say about it!

Wow, you have grounds for a lawsuit. Not that it is worth hiring a lawyer, but next time you are in the store ask the manager for his name and the name of the security grunt. Say your lawyer requested it.

There is some much here that HD could get hammered for doing that I do not know where to start. So you actually paid for the items and had the receipt and they still took them from you??

As stated above, what did corporate say. I don't think I'd ever call corporate but if they did to me what they did to you, I'd make the call right there in the store.

They also said they would review the footage of what happened at self checkout.

They will clearly see that I scanned the upc on the box handed the item to the attendant. Swiped my HD card and now that I think about it when I was waiting for my receipt I forgot to press the pay now button and the attendant pressed it for me. The receipt printed and after that is when the manager grabbed the item and the receipt. And the security guys came over and were clearly trying to intimidate me. I believe I laughed at the question of how i scanned it and where the barcode was. Thats when I pointed at the register and at the upc on the box. The manager even tried to peel at the upc to as if to see if something was stuck over top the real one.

Now I kind of want to see this footage myself because it happened so quick and totally caught me off guard. There were customers waiting to use the SCO and there were even employees standing around wonder why I wasnt allowed to just leave with my receipt and items.

Lol do this so u can tell us what their face expression looks like. If this happen to me, I would be thinking about filing a lawsuit. They handled this all wrong.

i have encountered this behavior by store employees, being detained, and made to feel like a criminal. It's embarrassing when your standing there and all the customers are looking at you. They know damn well items drop to a penny, and their going to treat you like s**t. It is totally unacceptable. Tell the mgr. you want the number to his district mgr. and complain to corporate.

Thats exactly how it happened. This guy was probably 6'2" and 300lb with a big beard and a hat on with his arms crossed and he walks over and bumps me, while the other other guy stood guard at the door. I took a step back, looked at him and smiled thinking to myself are you F'ing serious.

When the "security" guard made contact with me, that's when I would have requested they call the cops and I would have pressed charges against him! Even if you are breaking the law it dose not give the right to assault you!!!

Two nutone HD80NT fans and two moen haysfield faucets for a whopping $.04

We noticed the guy up in sco was super nice and he even scanned the pennies and didn't care. Just said, "great deal!"

Did corp have anything to say about them refunding you your money after you had already paid? I feel like at that point they are past being able to refuse you service since the service was already rendered.

Maybe you should have stayed in the parking lot called corp and called the cops to report a theft of your property since you did not approve the refund?

That's the moment, right then, when he bumps into you and you just adjust your belt because your every day carry was discomforting you.

But seriously I would have called Corp right in the spot.

Lithonia is having a 20% off deal this week and their 2'x4' troffer lights are $29.06. They should hit .03 soon but not sure if it will be in time to include the 20% off at the pro desk

Yeah now I kind of wish I called right there in the store, or at least ask to speak to the store manager and not the MOD that was making all the accusations.

The only thing they said was that they should have honored the penny price being that is what policy states. I have a digital copy of the receipt and a copy of the void but not the original paper receipt. Idk if calling the cops would have done any good. If HD tried to physically detain me and put me in cuffs then that would have been a whole different story.

So they assaulted AND robbed you? :D

Haha basically

I just got a voicemail from the store manager stating that he got an email from customer care about some confusion between me and his loss prevention team about penny items. He says he wants to discuss what happened with me. hmm...

Picked up a Dewalt cordless vac today. They had a display one out for awhile marked as $49 down from $99. On a whim today I did a price check on it and it came back as $25, even with the yellow tag showing $49. I looked up in the overhead and found one new in the box. Sure enough it scanned at $25. Don't really need it, but for that I'll take it.

Haha please do. Ask for a copy of the security tape showing the confusion. You know, for your records and all

Yeah Ive seen a lot of the Lithonia stuff but have no need for it.

I *am* looking for track lighting and I know someone posted the 10' Hampton bay flexible track setup is down to 35.03 wherever they are....I havent been able to duplicate that yet. Every store around me that has any has them at full price.

You should make those two a**holes squirm. They both are probably worried about their jobs right now. You could use this to have them greet you and have penny items waiting for you in the future. You have the upper hand. Play your cards well.

Maybe we should give swedish88 a collective list of demands from his friends at GJ....all of the penny items that we want, delivered right to our homes!

Damn....dude....you got a very good case... I would get your electronic receipt, voided one and items...go back to store manager....and have that manager fire that security guy and that manager who accused you.....And if he doesn't then you are going to send an email to HD corp...CEO email and talk to store's district manager... And say you are going to press charges for assault, file a lawsuit if store manager doesn't make it right.....and say same thing to district manager about how the store manager allows his store employees to assault, detain, customers without evidence.... for HD penny items that store should allow customers to buy.....that store manager should be reprimanded.... for the actions of his employees....

Yeah!

You should bring your own bouncer this time.

I do have some large friends that could fit the bill for that but I am thinking about having one of my lawyer friends go down there with me.

U shoudl walk in with a gopro strapped to ur chest

Haha I thought about this I have the chest mount and everything.

Haha please do. Ask for a copy of the security tape showing the confusion. You know, for your records and all

I doubt they would hand that over but I guess it doesnt hurt to ask.

Haha only in a perfect world would that work

The more I read about this, you have a good situation. You seem to have remained calm and handled it well, you deserve to at the very least get your items back and a little bonus for the harassment.

I'd let him call the ball, if he asks what it's gonna take. You let him tell you and go up from there lol

Pretty good deal. Side note: i flew to Florida on Friday and during takeoff one of the coffee makers started leaking and they couldn't turn it off. It leaked water for a good 10 minutes and ended up flowing all the way down the aisle. They eventually got it turned off and we didn't have to turn around. When we landed they were waiting at the gate to clean up and they had two of these DeWalts vacs trying to clean up the carpet in the aisle.

I was on vacation for the last 5 days and am starting to have HD withdrawals...

I have the Ridgid Version of a portable Shopvac (clearance from about 2014) and it works quite well.
It does go through the batteries quickly though.
