Interesting day yesterday while making a drive from the Bay Area back to Sacramento.
Found a Paslode Finish Nailer in a box that had the SKU for the Framing Nailer sharpied on it. Asked someone to get it down and the tool manager came over, looked it up, and said they couldn't sell it. At that point I still thought it was the Framing nailer, and I was OK paying the $100 last clearance price since I couldn't have gotten it down myself anyways. He talked to the manager and offered it to me on a generic SKU at $100.66. Later found out it was the finish nailer, which is good because I never managed to find one of those on clearance.
I'm also trying to buy up as many more Husky cabinets as I can, and found some displays at another store, including the 32" tall cabinet, which isn't stocked at many locations around here. Checked the system, and they weren't found - so penny. Asked if I could buy/have them, and was told "NO". Asked to talk to the manager and the flooring guy finally came back and said they would sell them to me on a generic SKU for $50.66 each - so a little under on the tall cabinet and a little over on the base and wall cabinets, about $15 over last clearance price overall. But again, these are displays and I know even corporate policy is that it is the store's discretion to sell them. Still a good deal anyways.
Next. Found a store with the Fusion shed sitting on the shelf with the $250.03 price tag. BUT, the box had sharpies on it that it was missing two panels. No big deal, Keter will send replacements. So I find the garden guy and ask him about it, he offers another $100 off. I ask for 50% off and he says ok. And then he says, that their forklift is broken so they won't be able to get it down for a few days. Unfortunately, I'm rarely in the bay, so that one is still on the shelf at the San Leandro Home Depot. I did score 1 Husky jack at this store for $18.02. They had one more, but I left it for the tool guy after he saw the price.
Last top in Emeryville and I see 3 Paslode framing nailers. grab the yellow ladder and bring them down and head to SCO. Price check gives me .01, click add to transaction, "See Attendent" pops up. He comes over and takes one of the nailers and says he needs to "find the right sky" and "that's not the right price". I tell him it is, but wait patiently as he talks to the tool manager. They try to tell em corporate policy is that they can not sell for a penny, I tell them it's the opposite. The "supervisor" comes over and says there is no way I am leaving with them for a penny, so I tell him that I'm just going to give customer care a quick call and that I would like to talk to the MOD. He calls the MOD who says I can have them for half of the last clearance price, so $50.66 (a lot of generic SKUs thrown around on this trip). I say, thanks, but why would I waste $150? After 10 minutes on the phone with Customer Care the manager comes over and tells me I can have them - "Corporate Policy" he tells the supervisor. Then they both just walk off, no apology, nothing. But, I did score $1200 worth of nailers for $.03 (although one was a return missing the battery).
Also found one of those Steam Mops at another store, but not as exciting.
