Had a bad experience and found this by accident, store would not sell me the power washer attachment for a penny, had to call corporate and they told me they where wrong and that's not policy. Luckily corporate called store manager and told them they have to sell it so I was lucky enough. Wonder how many people were told bs that they are not aloud to sell penny items, even if there on shelf? Was pretty annoyed by the way they handled it. Especially because he goes were going to dispose of this, like wtf why can't I just buy it. Anyway it all worked out in the end.

Just my opinion...but you should not be making a big fuss and calling corporate for a $30 item...It just increases the likelihood that these deals will go away in the future.

Is it true that the HD has stopped their 5% discount for using your HD card? I was informed of this at the self-checkout this past weekend and was really disappointed.

I agree 100%. We are our own worst enemies.

There should be an unspoken rule that you don't call corporate for something less than $150 or maybe even more. With the popularity of this thread and the amount of people calling corporate for stupid ****, it is only a matter of time before we don't get ANY penny deals anymore.

I have been told a few times I cannot buy something for a penny and I just continue on with my day. It's not worth calling corporate and risking future penny deals.

^^ this. Saw someone say earlier they'd be embarrassed to call corporate about anything less than $400. Totally agree. Something like the paslodes or meter sheds is understandable. But there's no need to do it over the small bs items.

Agreed as well.. Spent 1000's at HD in 2015 an only called once. Only worth rocking the boat if it's a high value item.

Are any of u guys going to actually use the rust oleum kits for ur garages? I have 4 of the 2.5 car kits and 4 of the clear coat kits, but I'm thinking about going with armorseal for more durability.

Not sure if it is worth reselling.

I'm Interested in a kit along with some clear if you decide to sell.

I just came up to 4 carts full of schlage door knobs.

Previous items I've scanned never came up a penny. Is there a trick as to which schlage are pennies?!?

Someone mentioned opening he box and scanning a upc. Inside? All these door knobs were on carts in lumber section so don't want to disturb them till I know what I have come across

Check the SKU in the price check app.

How far out (in term of miles) did you have to travel to accumulate that stash?

4 at one store is impressive. Are they all framing or a mixed of framing and 16g? If you have 16g, how much you want to let it go for?

Don't open the box, the upc on the outside is the only one that works. as long as it's not in the brown schlage box, and in the blue retail box your find. Use the price check app if you think it might be a penny and it won't come up at all OR in some cases it may say 1 cent. It could be either.

It's really hard work finding this stuff so don't think your just gonna grab a cart full of locks. You might find 1-2 per store if any. The touch deadbolts are easy to spot if they look older, or if they say NO HoMe hand written on the box it can indicate it's old or super new.

Is it possible some stores may have the touch lock still at full price? I saw a touch lock sitting at a store on the north side of town when I was picking up some lumber. It was with clearance, but not marked down.

Yes, all the all the models and skus people have been getting for a penny are still full price at every store I've been to, it's killing me.

Been lurking this thread awhile. I don't get it. Why do they give you guys a hard time for scoring the penny deals? I thought that's why they lower the price so much to make shelf room for the new stuff. And, if it's marked down to a penny or whatever, how can they give you hard time if that's the published price in the store? Why is there even a discussion at checkout just because it rings up at the discounted price?

Yes, the locks are the hardest I've come across because it takes quite a bit of effort comparable to others. I usually start in the overheads looking for no home boxes or models that look old. Sometimes they even say clearance. Then I go to the computer to check price.

Nope.. I called after getting stopped for every penny deal.. They stopped me for echo pb500t blower display, made up their own sku if newer model fir penny sku ##, tried to charge me $250..gave up, keep it.. Then later on, they stopped me on one lousy shark bite, didn't fight, then they stopped me on cheap Britta bottles.. Didn't fight. Latest was no on Paslode nailer no jacket.. Was heavily used inside.. Again no penny... I got pissed off called HD CORP,,, stupid Corp said it's up to store manager.. Waiting to hear back from Corp email.. Thinking about turning in this ahole manager to HD CEO. . Same store manager was hiding the Paslode when it hit 100.03..he took all of it in the back, right in front of me. He's keeping penny for himself..
Sometimes, it's more about turning in jackass manager to restore penny items allowed in store. Previously I had store refuse penny items, called HD Corp, and got the items. Now that store doesn't question my penny finds..

just do what I did. write down EVERY sku number for EVERY schlage box in the overhead, then check them all in the computer. Cross out the ones that aren't penny. Do that at 10 to 15 stores like I did.

Problem is same sku, same box, model, looks, same, but upc is different so full price.. On most schlage box, at least my experience.. I gave up, takes way too much time.

hmm, i'm talking about the brown shipping boxes, not the blue product boxes.

Even if there isn't a Home Depot SKU sticker on the box, Schlage has Home Depot's SKU number on their label.

This. What I did as well. I found it easier to snap some pictures of the overhead with my phone though.

Logged 1500 miles last week. Mostly western and middle NC and SC and Augusta. All framing and given away/sold already.

+1, quit BragWhining

Hmm that's weird. Was it an HD sticker sku, or the HD sku on the Schlage label?

They may have tied the UPC number to a new model SKU. Look up the UPC number in the computer and see what comes up. It may pull up a different SKU for a different lock, meaning they tied it to the newer model.. same as they did for a lot of the old blue Ryobi tools, tying them to the new green models

I had this happen in cherry hill. There were actually 2 listings in the computer. 1 at 50.03 and 1 for full price. The only difference was a slight variation in the model, like a revision. I got tired of arguing and left. Even though the quantity on hand for the 50.03 model was 4 and he quantity on hand for full price was 0. It still rang up that way.

That's actually illegal in New Hampshire, per the New Hampshire Consumer Protection Act. Look at VI and VII and ask yourself how many times you have seen this violated. Of course, this is NH's law, you'll have to check your own state's laws.

358-A:2 Acts Unlawful. – It shall be unlawful for any person to use any unfair method of competition or any unfair or deceptive act or practice in the conduct of any trade or commerce within this state. Such unfair method of competition or unfair or deceptive act or practice shall include, but is not limited to, the following:

II. Causing likelihood of confusion or of misunderstanding as to the source, sponsorship, approval, or certification of goods or services;
III. Causing likelihood of confusion or of misunderstanding as to affiliation, connection or association with, or certification by, another;

HD sticker sku label.. Maybe that's it,, some HD worker put that on.. Will check schlage label with HD sku # #.. But I suspect ## is not big and visible like the HD sku label.

The problem is employees dont know and more importantly dont care what the law states. Here in California it is illegal to increase the price of an item at the register, such as when they stop a penny sale and say they cant sell it for a penny but can sell it at the last clearance price. I have told managers before that they are breaking the law and that it is punishable by up to $1000 fine and 6 months in jail, Hence the reason for a corporate policy that allows the sale of penny items. Even then I have been told that they will make a 1 time exception and that they are only obligated to sell it if it has a penny tag on it which is still false. Thats when I go back find more penny items and waive the receipt in the managers smug face.

I suggest finding the fine print of the law, like I just did, and print it out. If they give you anymore ****, tell them to expect a call from the attorney general lol.

Just to make it clear I was not looking for penny items. I was just pissed off the way they treated me at check out like a criminal, which is why I called.
