Its called retail fraud and its against the law

I honestly didn't know that..:confused:If it was considered fraud not sure why they didn't just stop me and call LP. I do admit I think it's a "grey" area to do this though. In reading this forum though,it's talked about so much doing a return/rebuy at another store for clearance price and I've never seen it frowned on in this thread. Well I will admit that I didn't care for the little bit of attention it brings, probably why I'm not so in the hunt for penny deals necessarily.

So, one guy demanding warranty on free stuff and other demanding the original box on free stuff. I'm embarrassed to be a member here. The whole penny thing is cheesy. HD has a strange way of managing stuff that's no longer for sale by changing the price to a penny. It's one thing to get lucky and something rings up a penny, it's entirely different to search their computers and then call headquarters and demand to be sold stuff for a penny.

Somehow some people feel OK to do this because HD is a huge company. I guarantee than none of those same people would demand the same at their favorite "mom and pop" hardware store. And if they did, Mom or Pop would just through them out.

Rant over.

Found me 2 paslodes for a penny! Mod gave me a hard time and wanted to sell it at last clearance price. I had to call the corporate number. Store manager was not in the store at the time. Mod finally settled in giving me one for free and selling me the 2nd one at $100.03. I agreed with that deal. However when he was trying to ring me out he couldn't find the clearance sku to check me out with and eventually budged and gave me both for free.

I asked him if the clearance sku will tie the item to the paslodes and he said no. So then I asked him how will warranty work then? I argued that if I was going to pay the last clearance price, then the receipt should show that I purchased a paslode. How can he guarantee me that the gun will work a month from now. I think when I mentioned this he understood where I was coming from and eventually budged in to give it to me for free.

The mod kept saying that he has never sold anything for a penny, but at the last clearance price. They also brought in another hd worker who also said he was the other mod. Are there usually 2 mod in the store at one time? The "2nd mod" said he couldn't sell them at the Penny price, but can sell it for $100.03. I said okay let me think about it, but would also like to wait for the representative from corporate to call me back. 2nd mod then said okay I will be bringing these 2 paslodes to the back for who knows what. I then asked him if he was the store manager. For some reason I feel like they were trying to scare me by bringing in another mod. During this whole time, the Rep from corporate was trying to get into contact with the store manager, but she was nowhere to be found. She went on her lunch break.

All in all, I did end up with both paslodes for free. Me and the original mod started bsing around at the end saying that "he didn't do this for me wink wink" and said u don't know me anymore! I told him I already forgot his name. Lol. He also told me to tell the corporate rep that I was taken care of. I agreed to do so.

Sorry but I have to agree. How the eff can you reasonably be worried about a warranty or original box on something you are going through hoops to get for a PENNY in the first place?? Almost comical. To be clear I have no issue with anyone spending time and researching to find these deals, but no need to act like HD owes you something special when finding these deals.

To each their own I guess.

It's because a lot of the people who disagree with the practice have already stopped posting in this thread. There was a small battle about it last year on some Honda lawnmowers.

This thread should be renamed "scamming HD 2016" because that's what has been going on for the last 2 months.

Price paid has nothing to do with a manufacturer honoring warranty. The product is still expected to perform as it should regardless of whether it was bought for a penny, $100.03, or $399...

Granted I wouldn't feel as bad if something broke that I got for free/penny vs. something I paid full price but the warranty shouldn't change.

With your philosophy then if I get a real good deal on something the manufacturer is no longer required to honor warranty? Should they cut warranty periods based on the price paid? Please take your high moral standards and belittling attitude elsewhere...

It is reasonably common for clearance items to be sold "as is". But then again, these are not really clearance items, just stuff that was not intended to be sold.

I guess I didn't make myself clear? All I wanted was the warranty on the 2nd paslode that I was going to purchase for the last clearance price at 100.03. I knew I was going to get the first one for free and did not care for the warranty but if I was going to pay for the 2nd one at the last known price then I feel like I should be obligated to get a receipt that tied the paslode to the purchase date in case I ever have to file a warranty claim.

Plus one. So for example if there was a item for 3k and it clearances out for 1k and the manager typed in a generic sku with no ties to the item u bought. U guys will be okay with that??

Read plz?? I don't care for warranty on a penny item, but if I was going to pay for 1 paslode for the last clearance price then I feel like the receipt should show what I purchased to show the purchase date on it. I was going to get a receipt with a generic sku number on it.

I have a question.

I have multiple hd in the area. Just checked one out that I haven't been to forever. Found a few clearance things of interest but they keep the prices high on stuff you guys are finding dirt cheap. And the dates on the price tags are up to date within weeks or the last month. These are large things so I can't easily price check them.

Do some stores just over ride the clearance markdowns and keep their prices higher? Even the add a vent that is really "old" so to speak is $50some dollars there still. The makita brushless 18v 248 is clearanced but only $20 off.

Clearance prices are set individually by store, sometimes they are national (sort of) but most of the time they are independent.

Makes sense. I have returned/warrantied generic sku receipt items before without any issue. Just explain it to them if you go to use the warranty, it's not that much of an issue.

I found out why the credit card industry wen to chipped cards, it's really not any more "secure", it just takes forever so you get caught trying to slip out with penny items.

Masters those coolers are still 144 they've been like that for over two months. They are good but didn't move much even at that price. Great for fishing boats. Nice buy

I think they haven't moved well since Pelican had them on sale for awhile but not this low. I've already sold one and have interest for more! I am keeping one for myself. I guess living next to a marina helps! You have more at your local HD's?

i think they did this with husky bucket jockeys...
i dont know much about hd dates, but i saw a few boxes in overhead of husky portable storage stuff; skus were same as old so i figured 'jackpot' but there was an end of december date handwritten on the box and crossed out with an early feb date written next to it

I've seen them re-use the SKU and the model number but not the upc...

So what's the story on these? Sorry for the bad pic but the SKU is # 202719. Of course the store with this price had none. There are 3 stores with them in stock. I went to one store that had about 4 of them on the shelf and when I went to the PCA to look them up, I got nothing with the SKU. Searched Paslode and it still didn't show up. However, when I went to the stores HD.com site, it showed the 4 in stock at the $249 price. :headscrat (Like an idiot, I didn't take it to the SCO to scan it)

Anyone pick these up at the $63 price?

Found a Kwikset Electric deadbolt already marked down to $30, went to the register and it rung up $20, not a bad deal, I was ready to pay the $30.

Also found the flood light I returned back on the shelf for 1 penny, I had just returned it for $23 its sticker price, so yea, I bought it again for a penny.

Not a clearance item but went in for a pack of spring nuts in the elec. Dept tonight.

Last bag of 5 was ripped open, they were all there in the dis play box though. Associate asked if I needed help as I was counting them, and I said nope, looks like I'm all set the bag is open but they're here. He zeroed the inventory on his pda and told me to stuff them in my pocket.

I've had one similar to that for two years and LOVE IT! My Hitachi Slider sits a little high on it but not a big deal when cutting flexible stuff.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/HOME-DEPOT-...893934?hash=item1a05c4332e:g:ksIAAOSwHjNV7hGL

for the low price of 16 and change you can even get the company polo :rocker:

LMAO! I I doubt you can be arrested for impersonating MET but it wouldn't surprise me if its a quick ticket to get banned form all HD's!

The Husky is actually heavier according to their product pages.

Husky is 44 lbs, DeWalt is 36

They make the tanks out of Aluminum is to resist corrosion not save weight.

Just an FYI there's a Rigid 3600w generator in the top overhead above the other generators in Stuart, FL. I'd like to get it down to see but I'm down here for work and I don't have time to mess with them getting it down this afternoon. Don't know price but good luck.

Check the sku! Should be $100 if not $50 or a penny

Might be a penny, might be full price. They haven't been on the PCA around me for at least a few weeks.
