I don't know if it is everywhere, but when I worked at HD back in day you COULD NOT buy penny deals whatsoever. You couldn't buy clearance items until the end of day after store closed for public use. With that being said if you found clearance deal u wanted you could take chance of hiding it in store or break room. If caught it was no questions asked termination. Penny deals are not supposed to happen and it comes out of the stores bonus. You could never buy penny items, BUT you would have a close friend on speed dial to tell them to come pick stuff up and split profits. Also, I haven't seen it posted in either forum, any store employee is allowed to lower price of any item they see fit up to $50 without manager approval. Employees would have "friend" cut open seed or fertilizer bags and say they wanted adjustment since it was open. You could go up to $50 without mod approval, but if u did it too much the managers would been on lookout for you.

I was told by the hardware associate if you want to take them I'll knock 50 off each one (separate purchases) just to get them out of here and you can just buy a new charger with the 50.00 difference. Got up to the register, and it wouldn't go through without manager approval. He freaked out and made a huge scene, like I was the one that made the offer. That was the only time I called corporate and they didn't have much to say about it. They gave me a $50 gift card for the way the manager acted, but no enforcement on the deal. So I just left.

So maybe it doesn't work on all clearance. I'm not sure.

Might not work on clearance at all. I just remember co-workers doing the $50 discount on items that were tampered with or used (lawn mowers and weed eaters). This was also 10 years ago so things have possibly changed over the years.

I was thinking the same thing. I just checked my receipt and wouldn't you know it my last day to return it was yesterday. Damn it.

Mine is the 18th so I figure if I get shot down today I still have some more time to try a different cashier/store.

When I bought 5 of the paslodes at 1 store and had 10% off it was $50.02 discount and they had to get a manager. They said anything $50 or more required a manager approval if it was $49.99 they wouldnt need approval.

They can mark down clearance items. I bought a clearance saw a couple of weeks ago, that was a display, and they marked it down another $45 bucks for me. They said that the manager was out to lunch but they could mark it down up to $50.

Haven't been on any Home Depot trips in a few weeks since I was busy. Stopped into one today that was on my way, found 6 penny fans but noticed a difference in their clearance pricing. Instead of .06 I'm assuming it's .16 now?

They had a few more but boxes were beat and taped and a qnt110le in the overhead cage that I couldn't reach with the yellow ladder and didn't want to risk not getting these 6. Surprised I found any because I've cleaned all the local stores out weeks ago of the QNT110E/LE's.

Ouch! They put up a fight but only because a employee walking by looked at my screen and saw the prices and tried getting the SCO attendant to pause the transaction. I was quicker with the quarter in the machine. Got my change, manager shows up says he can't sell them to me. Says you can't tax a penny, show him the receipt that I paid a penny tax on 6 cents. Put up a little fight, while the original employee that caught it is yelling no you're not getting them for a penny. Manager then whispers go ahead you can leave the store. I thanked him and walked out.

FWIW they turned me down so far. Not sure if its because I only had a printed receipt from email (note to self - always keep the paper ones!) or if they honestly didnt want to do it because Im past the standard price adjust policy.

Still within return policy range, they suggested going back to the actual store that I bought it from to see if they would do it (i.e. "please go away")

I've run into the same thing. Some stores were good and pulled them some may have sold whatever they had at the .03 price. I did find one store 3-4 weeks ago that was the jackpot. About ~20ish penny fans but all in the overhead. Stacked 2 deep. This is a picture of about 18 of them lol
