I'd rather not get trepassed from the store but I was almost to the point of grabbing the others, throwing a $1 down and walking out. Next time I am just going to get the items, take them up to the cash register and immediately request a manager and ask for last clearance price.

Or you could wait till the SCO is busy, get in quick, scan quickly, have penny's in your hand ready to drop, and have your receipt in hand before the SCO attendant notices you walking out the door ;)

Looks like all the idiots calling in every day bitching about not being able to buy a penny 2.00 screwdriver got everything screwed up. Back to last clearance price only if you call to complain about a penny purchase. Thanks.

I'm confused, so you have one for sale but can't or won't take your own picture?
Correct..they're currently in will call, I don't have a vehicle at the moment that can haul them..so I'm picking them up Saturday with my parents vehicle and bringing them to my work.

With some of the stories of people getting screwed when they go to pick up their items I suggest you wait til you have them in your possession.

A little birdie told me that at least one of the big players got a set of chrome bracelets and a ride in the back of a brand new dodge charger..... Something about "retail fraud".....

Lol, chainsaw was hard enough to scan myself. Penny deals are nice but I'm okay with paying last clearance. I only called due to the idiot employees trying to steal my stuff. I did make a rookie mistake by not having any pennies in my pocket though.

I previously got two of this 5 weeks ago and posted it here with store location for those that wanted some since I left some 2 behind. Glad nobody is in this area cause today I went to that same store and they were still there.

How much were they?

I've had 2 corporate #s on my speed dial for the penny hunting. These two guys have always had solid policy and after talking to store manager, I've always gotten out with the pennies.

They are used to the screaming pissed off customer....and how I get into them was I called simply to ask about the deal......we talked and I explained my original situation and they were like let me see what we can do about this...and they hooked me up.. And they've continued to do so within reason (overhead stock they've killed me on but understandable)

Anyways....had a little issue the other day so I do the quick dial gig.......say Wassup........explain what's happening and what store I'm at.
D
DID NOT HEAR what I wanted to. Dudes tell me...times are changing....

Penny items found and stopped......Manager discretion, refuse the purchase...or offer it last clearance....

RIP pennies...

It's amazing how that works. I've come to terms with the idea I may never snag a penny item worth much to me around here but it blows my mind how many are so insistent. I get it in the cases where you already have your receipt and they make a stink about it. I find it rather amazing how many new penny item "flippers" keep popping up- one store near me has begun pulling all level "big ticket" clearance items entirely off the floor and refuse to even take them down. Also have eliminated the public access PC because of people buying off craigslist at discount then returning to stores without receipts and getting around the clearance prices

I was told he had a receipt.... I'm taking it easy for a few waiting to see if anyone else gets bracelets and a free ride.

Just my thoughts, I know I'll get s**t for it, but anyways. All I see anymore is an adult show and tell! All of these pictures of your score and bragging. All this whining and calling corporate is going to end this party. If you don't have success with penny items, **** it up and quit your whining. It's better to fly under the radar. Don't you think Home Depot knows about this forum.
Brickie, home depot didn't steal your will call. Did you think they are supposed to post an armed guard over your stash till you get around to picking it up. Look at all the stuff you have gotten. You raid every home depot, post your pics, and take away so much merchandise for your own personal gain, depriving others that could benefit from the lower price and then ***** because someone raided your stash and now your pissed. Wow!

Thats why HD and all the big box stores require an ID for "scum" that try and return items without a receipt. Only allowed so many returns and they are black listed. I've seen it happen in front of me where someone tries to return something and gets told "sorry, I know its listed for $300 now but we had it on sale for $25 3 years ago so all we will be able to give you is a "store credit" for $25. Dont get me started on what the big box stores have done to 90% of the "mom and pop shops".....

Once it is paid for it is your property, if they sell your property they need to make it right. They should have put it in lockup.
It is their fault

he has every right to be PO'd he already paid for the merchandise and it was left unsecured they like any other business should make it right .... Now for many others (particularly the ones who've been doing this for a while) it's done out of a too good to pass up mentality and making it available to others at a reduced cost obviously covering there time and efforts. But in the short time I've been on here I've already seen quite a number of noobs like myself who are jumping on the whole "how much are these flipping for" "think I can get this much" "who's getting the most money listing it where"

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't believe that was ever the intention of creating this thread.

Yep. Same here in Ca. I think the penny items at HD are on borrowed time for everyone. All good things will end....

Hey, I am all for supporting choices made by two consenting adults, and anything you might want to do with each other involving handcuffs is one of those choices, but for all our sakes, please do not post pictures of any of these activities. Bad enough that future penny deals may be at risk, but can you imagine what would happen to this site if anyone had to see that..........

Wow is right!!!!!!!!!!Sounds like you haven't been scoring to many deals or something!!I'm happy for you that you don't mind getting screwed.First if you can't hold unto a customers paid merchandise for 1 day in your will call system that your store setup, then you're idiots!!!!!!!Not like they had it for DAYS.They had it for 24 hours!!!Perhaps you were the one who picked my stuff up.Can I get a picture so we can compare it to the guy who they sold my **** to!Second ,actually I don't raid EVERY HD.I have a core group of stores I do frequent.Actually 5-6. And If it suits the forum I can stop posting pics of what I score.Makes me no difference at all.Thirdly by the very nature of what we "shop for", we are the ones actually doing the store a favor!!!!They usually have all this **** up in the rafters, where usually it will it a penny and then be destroyed or donated or whatever. So who the hell is being deprived in that situation. If you really believe half the **** you spewed then you seriously need to wake up.

he has every right to be PO'd he already paid for the merchandise and it was left unsecured they like any other business should make it right .... The fact is,this is the FIRST time I have ever called corporate!!!!!!!!!!! NEVER called about a freaking penny item.If you read my post, I clearly have stated on many occasions that I could care less about penny items. If they allow me to purchase for a penny or free then fine.I'm always happy to pay last clearance price for an item that's worth it!!

As far as flippers, I could give a rats behind what a person does with the stuff he buys. He went to the store, paid for it, after that I don't care. I don't care if he buys all 10 tool chests.Just because it's clearance it's "wrong". But if they were full price that would be ok..Wow!! I keep alot.give alot away as gifts, and sell alot.

But i'm tired so going to bed.

I disagree with this argument and arguments like it for two main reasons:

A) Large companies tend to hire the best/smartest/most talented people they can find to run/make important decisions. With a current market cap of approximately $169.50 Billion, Home Depot is a huge company. Therefore, we can assume that Home Depot has extremely smart people working for them.

I have read on here and have personally been told by corporate that their policy regarding penny items is one of the following:
1) Penny items can only be sold for last clearance.
2) Stores are allowed to make their own policy regarding penny items.

Changing corporate policy in response to increasing customer complaints about the sale
of penny items to either of those listed above would only serve to increase the number of complaints they received from customers.

If they change to the first, the call volume will only increase as stores that originally allowed penny items adopt the new corporate policy and start blocking the sale of penny items. Changing to the second would only add more confusion to the situation and increase the number of unhappy customers.

The person actually in charge of creating/initiating the new policy doesn't even have to be that bright or smart to see this. The only requirement they must posses is the ability to think rationally, which I think is a fair assumption.

There are only three real ways to effectively address increasing customer complaints regarding penny items
1) Remove all penny items from the sale floor so customers can't purchase them.
2) All items on the sale floor that ring up for a penny must sell for a penny.
3) Change their accounting/inventory methods so that no item is priced at a penny.

The first is the real root of the problem and there is no way to completely eliminate it. The most effective way to decrease the possibility of a penny item remaining on the shelf is to effectively market/display clearance items. The fact that most here are able to flip clearance items for a substantial profit is evidence that some Home Depot stores are horribly inefficient at marketing their clearance items. If stores didn't have their clearance stuff randomly strewn across the store in unorganized heaps, it would sell before it hit a penny.

If #2 actually was corporate policy and was made known to all store managers, customer complaints would drop dramatically. Home Depot corporate could also use the annual number of penny items as a metric to determine a particular stores clearancing capability and MET team.

The third would end all the complaints and confusion regarding penny items, but would ****.

B) Home Depot currently has 2,274 stores. Think about penny item complaints vs the total number of complaints they receive every day. The number of penny item complaints would have to be huge and increasing at a huge rate for them to issue a new corporate policy addressing the issue. While this is possible, I don't think it is very likely.

I've only called corporate once when I was not allowed to buy penny items. I had a shopping cart with about 35-40 Malibu Lights that I tried to get through all at once. I got like 27 through before I got blocked:

The woman I spoke with said that it was Home Depots corporate policy that stores were allowed to set their own rules regarding the sale of penny items. Unsatisfied, I decided to email them a few days later with an email address I knew wasn't linked in any way to my HD profile. The associate that responded said that it was Home Depots corporate policy that penny items must sell for the last clearance price they were marked at within the last 30 days, whatever that means.

In conclusion, I think Home Depot corporate policy is totally dependent on who you talk to at corporate and who they ask when they themselves don't know.

I don't think I'll be calling corporate to complain about penny items in the future. I'll just stick to arguing with the manager and if that fails, just throw on "Carry on my Wayward Son" as I head off to the next store.

You have to realize the number of complaints is probably so small, these smart people at corporate don't care how their policy affects call volume.

99.999% of the population probably has no clue how or why penny items exist, where they are, etc. And even the .001% that do know, most likely keep their mouths shut and never call...I know I sure don't.

Gumme, glad I could give you the response you expected. Still befuddles me me how you think it's apparently ok to sell stuff that a person has already paid for which by definition makes him the owner. If will call can't keep a persons property safe for 24 hrs then once again, they, the store,or all involved are idiots!!!!!!This is very simple to understand, or should be. I didn't create the will call system, they did.Run IT CORRECTLY.If not be prepared to have angry customers that demand you make a situation right.

Funny thing is I have not seen you mention anyone else,as far as the practice of posting pics of their deals. And MANY do so more than i do..But I do obviously see where you're located so I'm sure that comes into play.

And actually nah they were full price when I checked. And would prefer to take a pic with her when I got her all cleaned and shined up.

And yup, i will go get em..Hope you do the same.If you want we can meet and grab a beer by one of the HD's I raid.
