I try to make at least two stores at lunch time because they have different menu. usually donuts in a.m.Probably get another t shirt.

I've never been able to make it to one of these Pro Appreciation events just because of the hours and always on Thursdays. You'd think they would alternate days/hours.

homelite gas chainsaws finally dropped almost everywhere else..
those other dewalt nailers and kits and all that **** i said was NH on sunday night did not drop yet. maybe tomorrow.

i saw some of those dam 'magic' light bulbs on sunday wish i woulda known they were pennies.. went back for em but somebody swooped all but 2 random ones i found in various corners. not worth driving around for em today IMO. wait till tomorrows drops.

the two i got are the ones that say 'connected'.. i need some type of other device for them to be full function, right? i read the box a couple times and i still have no clue how the f they work

You need a gateway/hub/bridge/controller to get the "magic" out of them.

That "magic" via the TCP API is shutting down soon. They will soon just be dumb bulbs. This is due to TCP using their own communications protocol (hence the need for the hub), instead of opting for an open protocol such as Z-wave or Zigbee.

So you are saying that you can not control the TCP hub with something like a Wink hub?

So you are saying that you can not control the TCP hub with something like a Wink hub?

The API is what connects the TCP hub and the Wink hub.
If you issue a command in wink to turn of a TCP bulb, the following happens:
-The command moves from the Wink app to the Wink hub to the Wink API
-The Wink API then send the command to the TCP API
-The TCP API then sends the command to the TCP hub then to the TCP bulb.

The API is basically the online server that can communicate with partnering companies APIs. Once they shut down thier API the chain will be broken. There is nothing Wink, SmartThings, Vera or any other HA controller can do about it.

This is new technology and most consumers are unaware how useless some products are once the company drops support.
Just look at what happened when Nest "Google" bought Revolv and then ended support.

they will still work with the TCP hub though, correct? Just no further updates?

Thank you for the very thorough answer. I remember reading that article you posted about Revolv owners being SOL when I first started looking into home automation and trying to figure out how all of this convoluted stuff works together.

According to their announcement you will no longer be able to control the lights thru the internet when you are away from your wifi. You will still be able to control the lights when you are connected to your home's wifi. So they will no longer serve the purpose I bought them for of being able to control the lights while I am out of town. This must be how people who bought HD DVD players felt.

I found a 14" Homelite chainsaw today for $28. Are these even comparable to an Echo or Stihl or better off selling it?

They work with WINK app that's what I'm using for mine, even work away from the house on LTE or 3G on my cell phone...... We will see if it still works when they drop the service on June 30th. But since I can still turn them off and on through wifi at home I'm good. besides they were free.

I did find this....

Confirmed Working: Officially Supported

TCP Connected Smart LED Light Bulbs

Key Features

Compatible with Wink App and Amazon Echo (requires Wink HUB)
Brightness: 800 lumens
Life: 22.8 years (based on 3 hours per day)
Lighting application: indoor/outdoor enclosed; ideal for use in table lamps
sconces
ceiling mount fixtures and other general lighting applications
Timers and scheduling functions
Remotely control ON/OFF and Dimming functions for one or many bulbs
Save your favorite presets
Elegant looking lighting devices
Energy-efficiency at its finest
This bulb requires a TCP Gateway or a TCP wireless remote for wireless function
Compatible with Wink Home Hub (TCP Connected Gateway is also required)

I wonder if after they drop support, If you get a wink hub it will still work while your not connected to the wifi. Guess I need to get a wink hub to test it out?

Re: Home Depot Clearance Thread 2015

I've posted deals, just no one cares about things that can't be flipped.

I do. My favorite recent deal was the pumice stones that hit a penny. I scored four of them (pool owner) before they were pulled.

I can't bring myself to flip stuff. Not even the pallet full of Dewalt compressors for $40. Snagged one for my step Dad and left the rest. Though I do regret not grabbing a few more. :)

No deals for me today. Those connected bulbs that others are getting for a penny are still 03 pricing here.

What did that Tbar set ring up for? I scanned one a couple of days ago and it was $21. The MET is pretty much on it around here. I went in a couple of weeks ago at 8:30am and they had their list and were almost done pulling the clearance stuff. The Advance Autos around here have been donating all their clearance as well. If it wasn't for the O'reilly's I wouldn't get any super cheap clearance anymore.

Are those at $7.52? I bought a couple of pair at that price maybe 2 weeks ago. The Dewalt, Channellock and Crescent stuff was long gone before it got cheap around here.

Those dropped to $7 weeks ago everywhere around here. I would be surprised if they were still $15 anywhere.

I didn't check since penny status is still a month away, but I'll check when I go back in a few days. MET is pretty good in the tool section at this store too, pulled the welder carts just before they hit penny. Lighting section seems to be slacking though.
