the guy said the store was not putting a label on an old model and that's exactly what they were doing. spn scanned the sku, paid, no retail fraud.

Removing a label is the same thing. Imagine if it the box had a $10 price sticker on it (back in teh day!), and then their cost went up so they put a $20 sticker over the top. Removing the top sticker or ANY manipulating the price they intend to charge is fraud.

they put a new model SKU sticker over the UPC of an old model fan. That's illegal in NH. What prints out on the receipt is the UPC code numbers. My receipt would not have matched the item I purchased. That's illegal in NH per the NH Consumer Protection Act. In NH, you can't sell an item as a different model. I scanned and paid for the exact item I got.

I would assume they could charge a generic clearance SKU in NH, but they CANNOT sell something as a different model.

Had I paid for it under the new model SKU, I would be screwed if I wanted to return it, because now my item would not match my receipt.

By what you're saying, if they had a SKU sticker for a table saw on a cordless drill, I would have to pay for the "table saw" sku, and my receipt would show a table saw.

You're probably right about them being able to charge whatever price they want, and in HD's case they would have to use generic clearance SKUs, but they can't sell you an item when you clearly bought a different item.

Well you are doing it wrong then. Check out the first post of this thread. The penny items are certainly not advertised, you gotta hunt em in the top stock.

What you are asking (kinda) is can you buy one of those 52 benches or the compressor at the store in stock and bring it to the clearance store and do a return/rebuy. this is retail fraud. Will you get caught, probably not but it's also not worth the effort with a big item like that. Just be patient, you'll get something at some point at clearance.

im DEF not trying to scam anyone. I was simply asking how things really worked. It sounds like one store might discount something and sell out but another store 3 miles away could have the same item for the same price. I just diddent quite understand why it worked this way but it is what it is i guess.

If a store discounts an item is there any chance they will ever get some back in and it be at that same price?

the Makita 21 gold set is at a clearance of 12.97 in pca but is normally that price (12.97), if anyone happens to see it fall below 12.97 please pm me, cause I would like em, but rather avoid full price since it doesn't include a flathead.

No problem. There isn't a pattern of clearance stuff. There are some things that get clearanced nationwide, other things are more local, etc. There will be one store that clearances a blower, one 10 miles away never drops it from the regular price, etc.

If you bought something at one price and a month later it dropped in price again, you can go to the store and do a return rebuy at the lower price. That is legit. Some stores will do that, some won't do it. If you do it, only do it rarely and for stuff you want and where it's worth the trip. Don't abuse it or they'll end up changing the policy.

What SPN says is true, I got the first welding cart for a penny, but the head cashier changed it to 10 dollars with a generic SKU# and told me I could not return it. That's because it was under the generic sku which would have rung up to god knows what? :eyecrazy:

I thought when the item hits a price ending in $**.00, it means that's the last price before the item is ultimately discarded. Is this correct?

It should go to .06 then .03, or .04 then .02... but they've been experimenting with different clearance models lately.

One store associate told me that was the first. They will all tell their own story. Did you know you can get 10% off by just asking associate as long as it is below $50.

yea that's the "customer service discount", which basically makes the "military discount" a joke, since everyone can get 10%.

You can ask but it's not a guarantee. I think my region has gotten some retraining. They're not accepting Harbor Freight coupons as much as they used to a couple months ago.

It helps being handsome when asking for the customer satisfaction discount.

Picked up a SencoSLS150Mg for $28 today. 741474095504
Also the Dewalt 64 piece bit set DWA2SLS64 was $8.98. 885911462303
Then HDX 10 in shower squeegee for $0.36. 857530003564

Self checkout wouldn't scan the stapler. I had to take it to a regular register.

They also had some clearance Ryobi bit sets and a couple of nail guns but half the stuff wasn't priced.
