Finally getting around to starting over with what i threw up the day we moved in 3yrs ago and was hoping to get some ideas for how to get all this stuff in the basement in an efficient manner. I had some makeshift cabinets and organizers along the foundation wall, but just took it all down for a clean slate.

Basically this needs to support a pretty avid DIY'er, bike shop and basic wood working. Will be adding more lighting as well.

the area is about 13x13 with two open sides. I could wall it in if needed but have left it open for larger sheet goods on the TS.

bigger stuff:
rolling toolbox (this could be under a workbench)
27g upright compressor
rigid hybrid TS (rolling base)
miter saw

This isnt going to be anything fancy or expensive. Hoping to make a few base/wall cabinets and add some more work surface along the blank wall. A rolling island or something would be nice, but not sure if i have the room.

Otherwise, any ideas or pics of what you've done to get the most out of your space?

Paint the walls a light color to assist with the lighting. The other thing I've done on my steel work bench is weld/bolt a trailer hitch receiver to it, then I built a little stands for my tools, like a grinder, shear etc. with 2" extension to just slip in the receiver, that way I can just put my tools under the bench for storage. You can also do the same thing with an engine stand, and round pipe.

I strongly urge you to get a woodworking vise mounted on a wood work bench. There are some light weight designs that are not too intrusive.
