Figured rather than polute the toolbox thread if start my own. Picked up a matte black KRA2423, couldn't justify the $3k for a hutch plus I wanted something taller. Built the framework for it and cut a chunk of mdf for the top shelf and what will become the work surface. Looked everywhere for sheet style steel pegboard but could not find, ended up with 16x48 pieces that I've been whittling down to fit. This is currently how it sits after a week of messing around in the eves.

A little more progress this morning, finished sheeting the inside with pegboard. Got the shelf board painted and the bench top coated with bedliner. Got the side panels fitted, still need to sheet the exterior back panel and build the door. Going to also mount the powerbar, soundbar and some lighting. Into it for a little over $400 so far including the door material.

Thanks, I searched alot and most of the home built units I found looked home built. My intention when building it was to have it functional but not look cobbled together. My snappy guy asked why I would put a junk homemade hutch on a nice new box, he stopped by the house today and had much the same reaction as you did, now he gets it.

Going to try the lighting on the bottom side of the door to avoid building a false ceiling, also ordered a matching snap on lock for the door.

5/8" mdf, routered the front edge and had it sprayed with truck bedliner without the pebble finish. Last box had the pebble finish and it was tough to keep clean.

Got everything but the door/lighting finished up for the most part. Side panels are painted and on for good. Soundbar has a wireless sub and Bluetooth streaming from my phone. Powerbar has 6 outlets and 2 USB outlets, added wire knockouts on both sides too. Had some extra Led strip lighting laying around so I temporarily put it on the sides, hate how blue it is and also is in your eyes as I figured it would be. Once the door is built I'll add some warm white LEDs that shine downward.
Still deciding whether or not to install the orange trim kit on my box, if so I've built some matching pieces for the hutch.

Looks quality and useful. What are you using for exterior sheeting and where did you source the metal pegboard?

What paint did you end up using on the exterior? From the quality of work you put into it, I assume it wasn't a rattle can job. Looks great btw.

Looks great! Now cause of you I might have just have to build a hutch of my own. The best part of the build is not only does it look killer but its hand made and engineered by you. Everytime someone compliments you on it you get to grin with pride!

Pegboard came from the local hardware store, it was packaged in 16" x48" pieces which was less than ideal but the best I could find locally.

Exterior is sheeted in 16ga steel, maybe overkill but I had some remnants left from my bus project.

Actually it is rattle canned, found a perfect match in the krypton 2 in one line. I did spray it in a booth and sanded between all 6 coats. I had intentions of vinyl wrapping the exterior but the paint laid down as good or better than the snap-on finish.

Mounted it on the box, also installed the trim kit on the box. Not super crazy about the orange, should have went with my gut and got the blue or none at all. I'll leave it for a week or so to see if it grows on me, if so I'll add some color to the hutch.ImageUploadedByTapatalk1391388608.758941.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1391388623.598909.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1391388634.376096.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1391388659.743657.jpg

Awesome work! That hutch is great.

I'd ditch the orange trim. Looks much better in all black in my opinion.

Fairly certain that the orange is going to go, anyone had any success salvaging it when removing? I'm assuming it's probably going to twist and bend like a mother, I think l either wrap these pieces with carbon fiber vinyl or order the kit.

Part number of kit is KA2423SETPJK
