Homemade hex to square adapter

Picked up an adapter plug about a month ago, finally figured what to do with it. Drilled, tapped, and countersunk a hole in the hex end, then attached a fender washer with a countersunk hole onto it. (This prevents the plug from pushing all the way through).
Now I can use 3/8" drive sockets with a Gear Wrench or old style ratcheting box wrench.

The hex was originally 9/16", and it still fits a 9/16" wrench (though a tad loose). But it's so worn it does slide into a 14mm wrench box! So that just increases the versatility! I can carry the adapter in a box of sockets, and wherever I go I'm bound to find a ratcheting box end to use it with. I always have GW's around in SAE, so that angle is set. Might just grab a reversible 14mm GW and toss that into the socket tray, too.

I like it bonneyman, I can cut down the tools I use in my motorcycle repair kit. I googled it and did not find the one you used, can you provide a link.

Nice...need to find me one of those.

I did something similar with the big 1-7/16 ratching wrench I "restored" (wired and painted, lol) to make it usable as a 3/4" ratchet. HF 1/2-3/4 adapter welded to a 1-7/16" nut and used a bolt/washer to hold it in. haven't found anything tight enough to try and break the weld yet but i'm tryin' :lol_hitti

I got three of the gearwrench kits while they were available. Think I have two SAE and one MM. One of the kits doesn't have the flange on it to keep it from going through the wrench. They all have a groove with an O-ring in it for a friction fit.

That adapter the OP posted is bad ***. I want to see if I can weld something up like that

Thanks for the compliments, guys.

Here's my current grouping of socket adapters. Most have ball detents and QR built right in. I seem to keep finding them since I dig in the bottom of bins at the pawn shops. You gotta dig if you want diamonds!
