Picked up an adapter plug about a month ago, finally figured what to do with it. Drilled, tapped, and countersunk a hole in the hex end, then attached a fender washer with a countersunk hole onto it. (This prevents the plug from pushing all the way through).
Now I can use 3/8" drive sockets with a Gear Wrench or old style ratcheting box wrench.
The hex was originally 9/16", and it still fits a 9/16" wrench (though a tad loose). But it's so worn it does slide into a 14mm wrench box! So that just increases the versatility! I can carry the adapter in a box of sockets, and wherever I go I'm bound to find a ratcheting box end to use it with. I always have GW's around in SAE, so that angle is set. Might just grab a reversible 14mm GW and toss that into the socket tray, too.
