Honda 3.0 V6 method for stress free crank bolt R&R
or use a bigger impact gun? we have 1 inch impact guns in the shop!
Hmm My milwaukee M18 fuel 1/2 high torque takes them right off no sweat... with a regular socket too.
My old MATCO 1769 (IR 2135) gun with a regular impact socket will not take off Honda crank bolts. On V6 Hondas this is no big deal because you can use a wedged breaker bar and the starter motor to break the bolt loose.
But on L4 Hondas the motor is turned 180 degrees so you can't use that method. I have done it using the gut-buster method (breaker bar with cheater) and I finally splurged for that Lisle socket. My experience mirrors yours--a few hits with the impact gun and any Honda crankshaft bolt is loose.
Marking the bolt and dampener with a pick punch is a good tip.
Yeah it amazing how that socket works I have the lisle version they need to make a 22mm for Toyota too
