...of a bazillion.

My wife and I bought our house back on '02 ( or '03, I forget). Front porch has those cheesy twisted flat bar and channel ****-tastic box store rails and a broken gate.

They have bugged the s*** out of me since we moved in. Every time I look at them I throw up a little.

Work's been a little slow, so...

A little time at the drawing board and we came up with this. The design closely matches the pattern of the stained glass in our new front door's window.

attachment.php

Top rail = 1-3/4" molded cover rail with 1/4" x 1" h. r. flat bar.
Legs =1-1/2" x 11g sq. tube
Bottom rail & gate perimeter = 3/8" x 1-1/2" h. r. flat bar
Pickets = 1/2 h. r. solid sq. bar.

So the porch has rails on 3 sides, 2 short and 1 long. This is the short end with the gate. The other short end will look real close to this but no gate, and the arch will drop enough to let the cover rail run level. The long side is basically 2 short sides made into one long piece.

More pics coming soon. (but I have to build more rail first)

Whatever you do, do well

Very nice.

You do realize if you do good work on Honey-Do job #1 that #2-infinity will follow, yes?

Beautiful gate, two thumbs up :thumbup::thumbup:, one from me one from my dog.

If my dog had thumbs, she'd be a force to reckon with :D

Nice work on the gate!

Ha ha. If mine did they'd eat me out of house and home. No cupboards would be safe.

That's a really cool design.

You do great work.

Thanks.

Very nice.

The list is seven years old, goes on into the bazillions and I'm still in the single digit projects.

Nice work.
How did you form the curve?

Thanks.
I draw the arc on my lay out table then cut the parts about 8" too long and bend it on my Hossfeld #2 bender.

Wifey and I are getting excited to see these finished. Our porch will be so much nicer.

While we're doing this we're going to paint the concrete slab to match the front door, and replace the uber cheese double square tube/circle/twisted square bar columns with 8"x6" cedar posts. So really this is like 4 honey do's rolled into one project.

Here's where the design idea came from. It matches the pattern in the "stained glass" If I don't go with low gloss black I'll go with dark (duradonic) bronze to match the door. Look through the glass in the storm door and you'll see the junk I'm getting rid of.

Really nice work. In the first picture where the gate is leaned up against the garage door I was initially very impressed by the asymetric detail on the up right until I figured out it was the garage door hinge. Something to consider.

Looks awesome!

When I was in San Jose, Costa Rica recently I noticed that all the fences are welded scrap metal. A lot of them are very beautiful and are interesting pieces of work. Yours reminded me of being in Costa Rica which brings back good memories.

Great job and thanks for the nostalgia trip!

Looks ausome, i gues she really ows you now
LMAO

Thanks, but the truth is I owe her a lot more than these rails. However she has had these on the "lay away" plan for a few years, if you know what I mean.:thumbup:

I've started on the next section and will put more pics up as it progresses, but it'll have to wait a day or two while I take care of some (paying :)) repair work on an old Fruehauf frame-less dump trailer.
