I have chosen to install L0-Rib metal siding horizontally on the inside of my 40x60x12 shop. The 40x12 gable wall with the overhead door, entry door, window will be completely done in 1/2" good one side plywood.

So that leaves 3 walls to do.

For the 3 walls (12' 4" tall), the 1st 4 ft will be good one sided plywood, then 8' 4" of the LO-Rib. Which works out to 2 full sheets plus 2/3rds of a sheet.

My question is:

Can that 1/3rd cut off be used elsewhere on a different wall so I can order a few sheets less?

My quick thinking has me ordering 24 - 20' pieces for the 3 walls and that would be cutting about 8" off 8 sheets.

I don't know how the overlaps and factory edges work when installing metal siding. PXL_20250725_020542638.jpg

If you look at the photo you supplied, panels need to be orientated the same direction. The short edge from the rib will overlap the long edge of the second panel. If you placed them side by side as in the photo, the right edge would overlap the left edge of the second panel

Looks like you'll have some waste no matter what.
What if you ran 3 full sheets (9')
And cut the plywood down instead to 3' -4" instead?

ETA
Put the 8" cutoff on the bottom as a baseboard.

Unless you are extremely lucky with your measurements and cuts, there is no way you are going to be able to use that scrap in place of a partial panel. Like I'd say the chances are around 0%. And the vertical seams will also be an issue because most manufacturers recommend a minimum of 6 inches of overlap, which is again, a lot of waste. You'd have a lot less scrap going vertically, not to mention only having to cut 1 piece per wall.

Actually looking closer, cutting off 8 inches will fall in the middle of two ridges, so there is no way to reuse that. It will all be waste.

I figured I wouldn't get lucky and will have to cut down 8 pieces.

I'm stuck running it horizontally as the outlets/switches/vapor barriers are installed and wired and I have no interior purlins.

I thought about 3 full sheets and cutting the plywood down but the outlets/switches are installed and don't want them landing on a rib as they are 44" off the ground or something like that.

I'll just have to live with the waste of material. Lol.

6 inch overlap for something inside that won't see weather?
Seems like overkill. An inch or 2 at the most is what I'd do.
