Horizontal of vertical compressor?

What advantage is there to a vertical tank compressor over a horizontal one?
I am thinking that I'd like to put my big shop compressor in a corner that would also have pallet racking in the same space, and that a horizontal unit would allow me to have a set of load beams and shelf at about 4.5~5' vs. over 6' with a vertical unit.

For your purpose pick the style that fits. Operationally there is no difference.

With a non-portable unit, it has everything to do with where you want to put it.

If you're going to roll it around, the horizontal will be less likely to fall over.

Verticals are good up to about 10 hp...most units bigger than that are horizontal, often with TWO motor/compressor units per tank. Pick what ever is best for your needs...

I like vertical for a fixed asset, takes up less floor space. Squeezed it into a corner the space between a wall and a storage rack, built a small shelf over it.

Same as Chris, I bought an upright so it'd take up less floor space.

My horizontal fits under a (tall) workbench. If it was a vertical then I'd have to find space for it!

Two ideas. 1) unless you have plans to build shelves over the thing, horizontals are hard on space. 2) I don't know, but think vertical units handle moisture better. Water collects down at the bottom and is easy to blow out versus along the long flat space of a horizontal.

It does not sound like there are any technical advantages to a vertical compressor, which was what I was wondering.
Given that in my situation, a horizontal is more space-efficient, I think I'll concentrate my search in that area.
