Hose clamp nut driver size?

What are the most common size nut driver for hose clamps? I don't need a full set, just a couple for hose clamps on the boat - I am on the couch and the boat is 12 miles away so I can't just run down and check. I've always used screwdrivers in the past.

I know some are 5/16" but I don't know the others and I don't want unneeded tools taking up space.

Any help would be appreciated.

Get one of those screwdrivers 4 in 1, the one side is 5/16 and the other 1/4 if you remove the bits. Then you also have a screwdriver!

Going to need a pic or two of this one!

I appreciate the info guys. I'll grab a 1/4" and a 5/16" and go from there.

Worm gear clamps are sized in SAE sizes. They have have metric sizes listed, but they are not metric. 1/4 and 5/16 cover most. 3/8 covers really big stuff. That's it.

I have a six way screwdriver that has reversible flat/phillips drivers on the ends. When you pull out the driver bits, it turns into a 1/4 inch 5/16 inch nut driver.

Very handy tool.

http://www.lutztool.com/6-in-one.asp This is the tool. It does not list the 1/4 nut driver, but it has one.

This was not my experience with oe automotive. There are clearly 3 sizes commonly used and 3/8s was not one of them. Now when replacing them, our aftermarket clamps only came in 2 sizes.

7mm, 1/4 inch, and 8mm/ 5/16 inch should cover damn nearly anything...and maybe bring a medium sized flathead too just in case

You need a set in both flavors anyway and the 1/4-5/16 you should have extras. Mainly 5/16 but we use nut drivers for a lot of stuff and have about 10 in 7/16 too. 3/8 was used in a lot of old mfg, furniture etc.

OK, I assume the 1/4" hex is just the socket end minus the driver, but where is the 5/6" hex ?

Stopped at the hardware store on the way home and grabbed a 1/4", 5/16" and a 3/8" Craftsman. Made in the USA none the less. I also ordered the flexable Tridon driver from Amazon that was recommended.
