Hey guys,

My sears has the 3 pc curved prybar set (item# 43278) on sale for 19.99$. These normally are 40$ for the set. I'm not sure how good these are though. Does anyone have them?

B

I have them. They are pretty good. The shaft seems to flex fairly easily, but nothing has broken yet...

I just bought this set at my local (Victor, NY) Sears and though I haven't put them to any real use yet I feel like I got a great deal, they look to be good quality and pretty well finished.

On another note Sears also had the 3/8" drive 6pt. SAE and Metric socket sets on sale for $15 each.

Not sure how hot of a deal this is but it seemed pretty good to me. It may also not be available at every Sears. Deal would be in store only, not online.

Craftsman branded Knipex Cobra pliers 10" and 7" for $34.99

http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00945433000P?keyword=craftsman+pliers&prdNo=16

I am not sure if it was a price mistake at Sears or what. They rang up $44.99 until I told the guy the price tag said $34.99. He checked it and sold them to me for $34.99. I normally don't spend a lot on new tools, but after reading about everyone raving about these pliers I figured i'd give it a shot and the price seemed reasonable compared to what I see others paying for them.

Got these from the Sears in Wyomissing, PA they had one set left. They are also made in Germany and have the Craftsman lifetime warranty.

Are those really Cobra's or cobra knock offs? I thought the real ones had teeth all across both jaws? The one on the sears website looks like only the center has teeth...

fr0mastaj,

Those Craftsman Cobra's are made in Germany by Knipex. Can anyone confirm if these Craftsman pliers are a design from a previous generation manufactured by Knipex?

I am pretty sure there the real deal. They look way better than the ones on the Sears website. They do have teeth all the way across both jaws.

Dave

They look exactly like the Knipex Cobra on the knipex website.
http://www.knipex.com/index.php?id=1216&L=1&page=group_detail&parentID=1368&groupID=1501
They look like the 87 01 250 and 87 01 300 models, except they say Craftsman instead of Knipex Cobra and the grips are different.

Re: $3 Voltage Tester

Got this as a backup for my Fluke model which looks very similar. I like the idea of having two voltage testers and making sure they agree...

Paid $3 to the seller, and .28 to Schwarzenegger.

Damn, I wish I would have seen this one earlier. Looks like the free shipping code doesn't work anymore and the price is now $4.78. Guess it's still not a bad deal.

The GearWrench stubby screwdrivers rang up at $0.05 at my local Advance, I don't know about any others. They still display $6.19 online, might be worth a shot?

I checked at both of my Advance's on the way home and they were both ringing up at full price. :(

when i worked at Advance they would do price updates. when you got a new tag with .05 the item was suppose to be removed and not sold to the public.

it was then basically given to whoever wanted if it was something stupid or it sold for a few bucks to the workers

I was out at Sears yesterday and saw that the 12 point and 6 point combination wrench sets were on sale. Instead of 39.99 they were 24.99. I picked up both the metric and standard 6 point sets.

I believe Gearwrench will be 50% off sometime soon. I updated my side-bar banner links on ToolGuyd, and the new Sears one mentions it.

Stuey --> I saw that on your page. Do they usually include Gearwrench ratchets and screwdrivers on that sale or just the wrench sets?

In the past two years or so the sales have almost always been limited to the ratcheting wrenches and screwdriver sets that are carried in-store at Sears. The discount worked online as well, but online and catalog-only items (such the ratchets and loose screwdrivers) were not included in the sale.

Going back a bit, all products were included in such sales. I haven't seen one of those in a while.

Finally got my CellularFactory voltage tester today...even though I'm a lot close to China than Scoutguy is! It's a decent unit and for $3 it's a steal; it's clearly a copy of the $25 Fluke model, but adds (1) an LED flashlight so you can "see where you're sticking it" and (2) it's always on, I think? So I took the batts out when not in use. Seems to be just as sensitive as the Fluke. I plan to use them in conjunction as a double-check, if the live-dead-live method's not an option. What are the chances both units would fail simultaneously?

Anyone have any coupons for Lowes or HD? I dont think the OSH coupons will work here in sunny Ohio because OSH is not a local competitor

I was just about to ask about something similar. I've never heard of or seen an OSH untill a couple of days ago on this site. Does anyoine know if HD will honor them nationwide?

Mine shipped from Singapore of all places. I was expecting it to come from the mainland or somewhere.

I used to print out Lowes coupons and HD coupons and go to the competitor to use them. The last time I tried at HD, they said they would no longer accept printed Lowes coupons as they obviously figured out single use was infinite since they couldn't verify if they were used or not.

That and because people were creating forgeries.

I've used the printed OSH $20 off $50 coupon at my local Home Depot twice in three days, once in color and once in B&W, and I've used dozens of Lowes 10% off and $10 off $50 coupons there in the past, printed and legitimate. They never give me trouble, but with the OSH coupon it takes an extra couple of minutes to check out. If I decide I need more stuff from HD, I'll use it again. I'm boycotting Lowes at the moment. I'm about as far from California as you can get in the continental US without needing snow tires.

Those snips are almost always $10, sometimes they go to $15. If you don't use 'em, put the $10 to better use or a better pair of general purpose shears.

From slickdeals...
3 Pc Columbian by Wilton Aviation snips $10 - http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002NVFRU2/?tag=atomicindus08-20

any good? my last pair was a worthless set from HF. this will be something i seldom use, but would be nice to have in a pinch.
I have a set from HF and used them for a lot of complex drip edge cutting when I did the roof on my garage last fall. They worked great.

Perhaps yours were defective or you expected to cut something thicker? Maybe those are considered a "hand tool" and you could get it exchanged?

I think i probably got a busted set... i just threw them away. I was trying to cut some very thin sheet metal (forgot the gauge).

So any good/affordable recommendations for these general purpose shears?

I'd look at Midwest and Malco. Not too costly, but very decent and reliable quality.

You have to use them right also. Some people will take them and try to cut through the center of a big sheet.

Snips are for the final finishing stages, just to get really close to the line after its been rough cut
