What is the difference in those screwdriver sets?

Amazon does a lousy job of accurately describing these sets. Images and descriptions often don't match. The other issue is that PB Swiss makes up some pretty bizarre sets.

(ex:) If I'm ordered a screwdriver set why do I want an awl???

The slotted set looks decent (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001IAO4W6/?tag=atomicindus08-20) but the image is wrong. It's 6 slotted drives with one of the being insulated. It does not include the 2 philips in the image.

Go to PB Swiss and download their catalog to help figure out these sets.

None of these look to be Swiss Grips. Rumor has it they'll smell like fresh puke.

Are you sure about that? The closest set I saw on the website with 6 flat heads was a different part number. Anyhow, we'll know eventually as I ordered myself one of those this afternoon. Damn you GJ!

Some decent priced PB Swiss sets on Amazon. All under $20.

The amazing thing is this deal has been "out there" for almost 24 hours and Amazon hasn't adjusted its prices already. Which means you guys haven't been buying. C'mon, get on it!

Disclaimer: I've no relationship with Amazon or PB Swiss.

my bad, had a few pages up and messed up which is which. this is the one that is lug nut style--being good for 150 ft lbs. one i linked above is like 90 ft lbs duty. should have read better when i linked it.

the higher output bosch is this one--

Could be good, I don't trust the numbers, since my 800 in/lb PS40 wouldn't break loose even small screws. I would want to actually see one do something that takes some torque.

General consideration, what battery voltage do you want to work with assuming you get more cordless tools?

im not sure. i think it is preference really. i wouldn't worry about the 14v bosch after using the 9.6v one for almost 2 yrs. ultimately, voltage wins out. but with that said, voltage is not everything as you will see. as there are 14v kits that will outperform 18v setups.

right now, i have the snap on 18v 1/2 gun and this 9.6v bosch. i use them both daily w/o issues.

23609.jpg

the 9.6v will run lugnuts on w/ a 1/2 chuck adapter to over 100 ft lbs. so i have to modulate the power to make sure i dont over tighten. it will break lugs loose straining--but not all the time. if it is a lug i installed recently, it will work. anything that has been on for a while, it strains. it is rated at 950 inch lbs/79 ft lbs. I generally use this to run them on simply because it is lighter/easier to hold while i balance a wheel in one hand lifting it and holding it up to the hub while a car is racked. On the germans that dont use wheels studs but rather use lug bolts, this is a fun task of balancing.

nice thing i have run into w/ bosch is the batteries will work on same charger, and seem to last. I know my little impactor i have been using for small work like valve cover and general smaller disassemble like fenders or tearing down engines.

i just picked this one up for tight area work-- ps41-2a that was my late night amazon find for 32 bucks. it is a little less power than my current 9.6v deal. ill likely use it in tight or 1/4 drive situations, the impactor in 3/8 and snappy in half. no need to have another charger as this battery will charge in my existing charger. i haven't received it and put it to use yet though to make an accurate assessment it.

Cman mini plier set of 3, $9.

http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_...03h&srccode=cii_5784816&cpncode=22-81405906-2

If memory serves these are Chinee, which gives me indigestion, but mebbe not you.

I've had those for a long time, from the 5pc zippered kit that used to go on sale for $10, made in China; jaws are good, I can't complain but Stuey has in depth reviews of mini pliers that are better on his site. If you must have your mini pliers come from Sears, the identical Craftsman Evolv 6pc set (usually $10, website says $15 today) looks like a better deal. It's China either way, lifetime warranty either way.

I've bought a lot of tools at Sears lately and the only USA Craftsman I've brought home this month was a set of ignition/miniature wrenches. Impact wrench and air ratchet, cutting tool, whole bunch of GW's and some other stuff, all China, mostly disappointing. I'm putting a big box together today for returns before the football games come on.

For the most part the Craftsman Pro mini pliers are okay but I just don't like using them too much. For general purpose I prefer to use Xuron (short nose, long nose, flush cutters), which are made in the USA and available in a few common styles.

I also use Proto and other brands at work, and am evaluating Lindstrom now, but they're not really priced for intermittent users.

If you look at Evolv tools, read the product descriptions carefully. They carry over from when Evolv had their own website. Looking at the precision screwdrivers, it says "Works in tighter spaces too small for standard screwdrivers".

Screwdriver set says "Includes shorter screwdrivers for tighter areas and longer ones for more leverage".

I complained to a Danaher manager that the descriptions were way inaccurate, and he said he'd forward the suggestions to the appropriate product manager but apparently never did.

When a brand and those that write copy for it do not even know the intended use of a tool, how can I trust the tools' designs? If precision screwdrivers are marketed as great for tighter spaces, I sure as hell won't trust them on small screws.

A brand that does not understand their own tools is a brand I don't care to ever try.

I see Evolv in the same light as I do mountain bikes at Walmart. Have you ever looked at the tags that are on the display bikes? When I went with a roommate 4 years ago to help him buy a "mountain bike" there (against my advice), I saw a "full suspension" bike with a tag that said "this bike is meant for recreation use only at parks or fully paved surfaces."

Sorry about that, went off topic. We really should reserve this thread for talking about the deals only.

There's just one problem - those receipts are thermally printed. They fade out over time (even a few short months), becoming illegible.

If you're going to trust the receipt-required warranty, make a photocopy of the receipt the day you purchase the tools, and staple the original to it.

midnight madness for sept at sears.com, takes an additional 10% off all tools and stacks with coupons like the 35 off 300 visa promotion and 5 off 50 posted above.

Not sure if this is at all Sears or not but they have the 6pc allen/hex sockets in standard on sale for $9.99 normally $29.99. http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00934447000P?prdNo=23

What do you mean you are not sure if it is at sears or not? Where did you buy them?
You seem to have missed a word in that sentence.

Nothing against your deal...but I have this set (bought it for $15 on sale) and it is garbage. It rounds very easily and ends up stripping the bolt head a bit... Although i got my busted ones replaced under warranty... still. Heads up to people!
I didn't buy them so I have no idea how they are. Just saw the deal and figured i'd pass it along.

Some deals I've taken advantage of that are ongoing, probably reposts but the way this thread goes I think that's okay.

51Th9mmrjUL._SL500_AA300_.jpg
Blackhawk by Proto SAE indexing ratchet wrench driver set with 3/8 and 1/4 dr ratchets, 72 tooth: $31 at Amazon, free shipping. More at toolguyd. COO unknown.

41RfSTfP4mL._SL500_AA300_.jpg
Milwaukee reusable corded earplugs, retail/jobsite box of 50, individually boxed: $9.99 at Amazon, free shipping with Prime or orders over $25. Made in Mexico.

50-pack Rapid Edge utility knife blades, micro-serrated: $1.97 at Sears. Made in Taiwan.

FWIW, I've seen those 3/8dr hex key sets for $10 at Sears too, not too far from Bucks Co, PA. I've got enough hex tools for the moment.

Got the 1511 C set today. I'm pleased, even though I'm not sure what I'll do with the voltage tester.

Edit: It's back up to $45 from the $16 it was when I picked it up.
