no no no NO NO NO NO to that Irwin bit set.

I bought something similar from Lowes 2, maybe 3 years ago. Came with a 5 or 6-pc spade bit set, a screwdriving bit set, and a twist drill bit set.

The twist bits are absolute garbage. The screwdriver bits are okay, and the spades are okay but lack the blue tip coating of their normal bits. Who knows how else they're different.

It looks like these bits are specially made for the holidays, so don't let the price fool you - they're junky bits. I took out a fresh bit from the set and tried to drill a hole with a new cordless drill for a review. I thought the tool was junk but switched to a bit from a different brand and it cut so much better.

Thanks for letting us all know... I have used some irwin bits in the past and actually own some which I have gotten some great use out of... I did not realize these would be to a lower standard. I do try to stay away from Irwin these days though anyway...

Just called my local HD (Centerville OH); they will honor 20% HF coupons! Now if they'd add my 10% off military (the computer won't let them do two...mgr said he would if up to him!).

It *might not* be the case, but I still have a very sour impression towards those bits. I've never had any other brand new name-brand bits cut so poorly before. Maybe they'd be fine in wood, but I tried them in very thin aluminum and then plastic and thought there was something wrong with the drill and that the bit was sliding up the chuck. Turned out the bits were just junky.

If I were to buy a promo-pack bit set, it would be the Hitachi set that Lowes has for maybe $15.

Which HD are you referring to? Next to 35 and cracker barrel?

Huh, I can tell you that the HD near the dayton mall will not honor the 20% HF coupons. If you raise a stink though, the cashier will usually give you the 10% discount. They hand that out like candy at halloween though

So you could buy anything in the store (HD or lowes) using a HF 20% off coupon!?
Or would you have to find the same item HF has and "add match it" using the coupon?

Why havent I been doing this?:wtf:
I had no idea

I'm in the same boat! Wish I had thought about this last week when I dropped $125 on a new multi tool. But you can bet I'll be doing it here on out! This changes things considerably.

Harbor Freight has some pretty killer closeout deals going on right now. I stopped by the local HF tonight to pick up another free clamp and thought I would look for the yellow closeout tags to see if I could use anything.

I bought this 24" breaker bar for $5.97 (made in Taiwan).

image_135.jpg

I also bought this plastic cap stapler for $18.97 (got a shed project coming up and I'm going to give it a shot on the roofing felt and wrap)...it's still marked $79.99 on the website...

This is all cheap Chinese made stuff but for .98 cents each with free in store pick up they could make cheap stocking stuffers.

Thanks Scout! I was eyeing that cheapo retrieval set..but wasnt sure it was worth $2.50.. under $1, sure!
That was actually the one thing out of all of them that I wanted and they are all out of stock in my two stores here. It says 36 in stock but when I go to pay for them it says out of stock or not available. :(

Did you mean to say $1.98?
That's the price I'm getting, which is the same as what I've seen in store.

Shows as $1.98 instead of $2.49.
All of them are coming up .98 cents for me. I already purchased one of each and am going to pick them up tomorrow. They are still priced at $1.98 in all of the stores this is just a online only price so it is best to purchase them online and do in store pick up.

Knipex @ Lowe's

Found this 10" & 7" Knipex Cobra set @ my Lowe's for $29.00. It showed a yellow "Lower Price" sticker. In the electrical tools.

SOOO pissed off at Sears.

I posted about their current $10 off $75 coupon. (http://toolguyd.com/2010/12/sears-3-day-10-off-75-coupon-sale/)

And the coupon code doesn't work. On Wed, I figured maybe it hadn't activated yet. It still doesn't work. Yet it works on random other items? Looks like it just doesn't work on tools. Even though there is a cordless drill in the button ad image....

I fired off an email at Sears, but like last time when something similar in October happened, nobody will probably get back to me.

If no response, I'm just going to stop mentioning anything Sears deals related. Will still talk about Craftsman and other tool brands, though.

My typical contacts at Sears are absolutely wonderful, but the web store is a complete mess and I wonder if those responsible for programming it and coupon codes like these are no more than part time high school interns.

No wonder their sales are in the dumps. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/12/22/business/22sears.html

I just got my beta punches in today. 2 Center Punches and 8 Pin Punches, as well as some Wiha in there too. The punches were free, and they are really nice.

Sounds good. When did you order?

How about trying one of those live chat sessions?
Since I'm passing the deal onto others via the blog, I require much higher up customer service than chat can require. This also isn't a one-time thing, this is like the 4th strike. Two midnight madness sales that ended hours earlier that they were supposed to, a "10% off all tools" sale that never happened, and now this coupon code tht doesn't work.

Yeah, I hate the Sears website. I ordered off of it several years ago, but now it won't even work for me. I created an account, but I can't place orders. They will never complete or even let me put in my address. I put items in the cart and then before I put in my address or credit card info the order ends and says "order completed." Yes, a completed order with no shipping info or payment.

I've tried different computers and browsers.

Good work Sears, make your website so useless a customer can't place an order.

And I'm 28 years old and tech savvy.:shocking:

I have my own issues with them as well. As a comsumer, it's love & hate, mostly hate these days. I try not to use their website if I can at all help it.

Pretty much as I expected. But there's no explanation as to why.

The early deal info that gets passed along to me doesn't mention any exclusions.

The darn coupon shows a drill, but drills and other tools aren't eligible for the coupon?? There are no exclusions mentioned anywhere.

This needs to be fixed from higher up. But my last complaint when ignored, so I expect this one to be as well. If so, then I'm going to have to escalate my complaint.

Sears' website is getting more complex, and not for the better.

I did the exact same thing and put them in a gallon sized freezer bag and put them under the seat of my truck. I normally carry good tools with me all the time anyway but you never know when you might need something and they are small enough to stow away and forget about them.
