I mentioned in the "Blue Point at Sears Outlet" thread there there were a ton of boxes, including the Blue Points that I got, a sweet Cat badged Waterloo road box, and a lot of Craftsman that were not listed in the store's inventory on the web site.

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=74961

I dont have a sears outlet near me, but managed to stumble across one near tampa last september on vacation.

I bought a blue point cantilever box for $30. I took it on the plane as my carry on:bounce: .You should have seen some of the looks I was getting, and to make things worse I took my pistol with me. It was an interesting check in to say the least. Iposted some pics in this thread when I got home with it, although I must have deleted them off my computer because I cant find them anymore

I received yesterday in the mail from the eBay seller "zdmak" three Japanese made stubby screwdrivers. The 3 sizes (6mm slotted, #1 phillips, #2 phillips) each had a total length of 68mm (slightly less than 2.7" long). They are made by Vessel Tools (the ad does not specify a brand). The total price for the set is $21.50. After I purchased the set last weekend, he posted a new ad on eBay earlier this week. The seller must have multiple sets of these Vessel cushion grip screwdrivers here: LINK. The perceived quality of these screwdrivers is very good. The cushion grip handle provides more than adequate grip.

Or factory second?

Side note, has anyone else noticed that Amazon's been stingy with the tool deals lately?

It's been a mixed bag, but I've managed to snag some deals.

Beta 1101 Bolt Cutter $25.41
Irega 12" Adj. ERGO Wrench $17.38
SAIT 6" Hook & Loop 120 grit discs 50 ct. $8.17
Beta 910A/C10 12 pc Socket, Extension, Ratchet Set $61
PB Swiss 800/28-250 Flat Chisel $12.43

I don't post many deals because I noticed the prices going up drastically immediately after I order.

I was wondering if it was you who bought the bolt cutter. I spotted it in Amazon's "movers and shakers list", hehe.

Maybe there are fewer deals since the winter holidays are just behind us?

I also scored a crapload of SS hex bolts, machine screws, self-taps, socket cap screws, and carriage bolts. Then I found some deals on Grade 8 & 9 fasteners. Buying nuts and washers for all these is going to kill me...lol

This is government spending at its best. The company that has the contract to sell all government surplus has a huge warehouse in OKC and another in Ohio... plus smaller quantities of stuff at bases all over the world. There is no rhyme or reason why they get rid of stuff... tons and tons of brand new stuff they sell for pennies on the dollar and then buy new. Why would you get rid of thousands of extensions? Are they going to go bad? Are you never going to need extensions again? Makes no sense.

Even worse there are almost never any good deals on tools. These extensions sold for $450 if I am not mistaken. If you had some kind of store you could sell them in that would be great, but otherwise that would be a lot of time spent selling extensions for $1-5 each to make a small profit IMO.

Problem is you have no clue what brands they are before you buy them... if they end up being all Thorsen and KAL, then what do you do?

2 bazillion pieces of fastener hardware via Amazon: $20
Complementary hardware from industrial suppliers and pieces/sizes to fill in gaps in the assortment: $50
Parts organizer needed to store the hardware: $100

lol. That's what happened when I was on a grade-5 1/4" and 5/16" hex bolt buying spree.

You are confused about what I am talking about.

Surplus items are placed up on a website open for bids, usually the bidding is open for 2 days. The description is usually very vague... I believe this particular auction said something to the effect of: 1330 1/4" extensions by various manufactures.

What you see on the Craigslist ad is a person who won/bought that auction and now is in possession of the items, has gone through them, and now is reselling them, albeit in a very odd manor.

I saw those 98 cent items in Lowe's today. Could not bring myself to buy them as I don't need any junk sitting around. I did buy a 1.98 LED headband flashlight. The two watch batteries in it will work great in my garage door openers.

I got the retriever set deal for myself. The other 98 cent stuff I bought for my oldest daughter, 3, to use in the garage. I plan on building her a small workbench with several different size bolts to use those tools on.

Here's a few decent deals for you:

Northern Tool apparently has some of the lowest channellock prices of the retail stores:

Two examples:

Channellock 3 Piece Griplock set: $24.99
http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_12831_12831

Channellock 2 Piece Adjustable Wrench Set (Irega): $27.99
http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200308927_200308927

They also have a pretty low price on the Felo 3 Piece Insulated Pliers Set: $54.00
(distributed by bondhus, made by NWS of germany)

http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200357799_200357799

Then a few from ebay...

For those of you looking for NOS made in the USA tape measures...

Lufkin brand:

or
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...2209546&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK:MESINDXX:IT

Channellock model 516:

Finally, I don't know if this is a HOT deal or not but Rockler has a 4-in-1 screwdriver which is on sale for $9.99 and looks quite attractive in my opinion. I don't know its COO or how good it really is but I might give it a shot :)

More to come...

[Edit: all gone.]

I don't know if this is a hot deal or not, but there are only two left at the time I'm posting this.

Anyway, here you go:

Beta 1357/40 Hammer with 40mm Flat Round and 35mm Square Face

I already ordered mine,

-- Bill

Just curious, what did you pay for that? I picked up a couple of other Beta body hammers back in December. They seems nice but one had a big gouge in the face. I just broke down and bough 5 more so I will have a total of 7 hammers. I did not get the one you listed but I have enough to do about anything I will ever need. I paid around $20 for each of them. You can find more of those just by doing an Amazon search for 'Beta Hammer'

I'll try to post some pic and maybe a review later tonight. I think that their original price was excessive but at this price, the cost seemed fair.
