My 9-piece ergo handle set is slated for delivery today...

I'm out of town, but my kid says they are indeed stamped as made in USA. He's too young to be able to tell whether they are 1st quality or not, unfortunately.

Edit: Wife now tells me that they're assembled in USA from global components, as reported elsewhere in this thread. Well, hopefully the quality is still decent.

I just recieved the thread file set( 4 pieces, all USA), as well as the 5 piece general purpose with ergonomic handles(3 USA, 1 Mexico, 1 Brazil). In addition 4 other sets are on their way, with only 1 still on hold, but as another member posted his set has been shipped, so all should be good. Congradualations and salutations and whatever else to the person who pointed us hounds in this direction.:drool::D Thanks much, Patrick

Regarding the set I just posted a picture of. The largest file is stamped Made in Brazil. The smallest is stamped Made in Mexico. The three in the middle are stamped Made in USA. I guess I can't complain about 3 out of 5.

That would of been low_crew_cab. And a thanks from me too.

I was looking for a few random files to add to my tool bag in my pick up and ran across these.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001T4K1O6/?tag=atomicindus08-20

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000S5SVBW/?tag=atomicindus08-20

Needless to say i bought both. At a little less then $20 shipped for 18 Nicholson files i think i did pretty good. It did say 3-6 weeks on shipping but I'm in no hurry at that price.

I received 2 files sets today - the 9-pc maintenance set and the 8-pc machinist's set. Of the 17 individual pieces, 8 are USA-made, with the others being either Mexico, Brazil or Columbia.

The foreign ones are of an obvious lesser quality, with poor finishing of the edges, end cuts that aren't square. Also, only the USA and Mexico files have the discoloration on the tangs, which I assume is from the hardening process.

For the $7-$9 per set that we paid, I'm not complaining, but I'd certainly recommend that, should you have a need or desire for a Nicholson file, you grab a USA-made one now, while they're still to be found.

I got my 9 piece maintenance set today and echo everything Grogan14 says. I'm not a tool expert by any means, but I could tell which were USA as soon as I opened the package. That said, it is still a screaming deal and am very happy. I'm not sure what it means for the future quality of this brand. I will try to post pics later - maybe in a separate thread so we can stop hijacking this great thread.

New member here, in fact this is my first post. I have nowhere near the expertise of the majority of members here, nor is my tool collection as vast, so I'm using the forum to learn a lot. I thought I'd add my experience on the nicholson deal so far. I ordered these sets on 3-20-11:

8 piece machinist set $8.95
9 piece ergo handle set $9.53
9 piece maintenance set $9.24

Today I received the 9 piece maintenance set. So far it's the only set I've received. Of the 9 pieces, 5 were usa made. As Grogan14 mentioned, the foreign made ones had poor finishing of the edges and end cuts that aren't square. The foreign ones were also lacking discoloration on the tangs, with the exception of the 6" slim taper from Mexico. The breakdown for mine was as follows if anyone is interested:

10" Mill ******* - USA
10" Flat Smooth - USA
10" Mill ******* - USA
10" Half Round ******* - Brazil
10" Round ******* - Brazil
8" Flat Smooth - USA
8" Half Round ******* - Brazil
8" Four-N-Hand - Columbia
6" Slim Taper - Mexico

As others have said, for the $9.24 I paid for this set, I can't complain. That's less than $1.03 a file.

I took the liberty of starting a feedback thread specific to this file deal. Hopefully we won't bury other hot deals this way. I posted detailed pics of the 9 pc. Maintenance Set I received today. Hopefully those who have received their sets can also provide details. Here's the thread:

Thanks for the heads up. I ordered a couple of the ergonomic handled sets. MSC wants 4 bucks each just for the handles so this is a cheap way to get the handles, the files are a bonus.

Looks like the Nicholson deal is back on!

Thanks, it's time for "File Fest 2"! It's a slightly different deal from last time, but still...

I just finished ordering one of the sets with handles and two of the ones with the file cards.

This pretty much takes care of this year's Christmas shopping for my mechanically inclined friends.

I received an email a little while ago that moves the delivery date for the three sets that I snagged during "File Fest 1" to about a week from now. I'm now in "crossed fingers mode"

Thanks again.

Don't forget this set:

Nicholson Maintenance File Set With, Flat/Mill/Half-Round/Round/4in Hand/Taper, 6" Length/8" Length/10" Length, (Pack of 1)

$9.24 from Amazon. You just need to select it from the "More Buying Choices" section on the right side of the page.

Still looking for a price drop on the thread files.

-- Bill

Thanks, I might get that for the rasp. Although a quick search shows that Amazon's selling a pack of 6 of those for $12. Decisions, decisions!

It's a good deal for less than $100, but know what you're getting. It's heavy on 1/4" & 3/8" drive sockets - the biggest 1/2" drive sockets are 5/8" & 13mm. Great starter set to upgrade though.
Coupon code 'TLSTHANKS' will take it down to $89.99.
