HOLY **** BATMAN!

I was at Lowe's this evening and noticed that ALL Kobalt tools are on clearance. And I mean everything! Makes you wonder if Lowe's is dropping their house brand tools for another?

there have been a couple very lengthy threads here about it. They're dropping Danaher as a supplier in favor of other manufacturers. The replacements are all Taiwan/China as opposed to the current domestic/asian mix. Some of the hard line stuff seems to be the same tools as the new Pro stuff at HF and copies of tools from brands like Titan. The Kobalt brand is still very much alive although with the prices they're tagging the new imports at i dont think they'll be in much better state.

Yeah, it looks like HD and Lowe's are chasing HF to the bottom. Plenty of crossover in thier offerings these days.

Now, if they could just get the smell right...

Not exactly a deal - but in case anyone else has a Chase rewards type credit card too. If you order through Chase Ultimate Rewards mall, you get 7pts per $1 from sears.com! That can add up pretty fast!

EDIT: also... my lowes Kobalt clearance prices are still not even worth considering :( Still like $4/5 a socket - boo...

I stopped by yesterday at Lowes too. Yep, many of the USA Kobalt tools and Gearwrench tools are on clearance, but the prices aren't low enough yet for me buy any of them.

I saw the new made-in-Taiwan wrenches, and they're blindingly bright. There was something about them that I really didn't like, but I cannot quite put my finger on it. I also saw promo pallet displays going up, maybe in preparation of Father's Day already.

Those points used to exclude Craftsman items, did they change that?

Some of those "points" cards are worthless, the "points" can't be used in combination with any other discount, and are limited to a total discount of just normal sale discounts like 20% off.

No Wheeling WV store was getting pretty bare in the Kobalt section, but prices really didn't impress me either.
Got these China made side cutters for $4.95, down from $9.95.
Web site shows same. Seem to be decent so far.

Was looking for the 2 Pac of Knipex 7" & 10" Cobra Plier set for ~ $21.00 but no luck.
Thanks,
Tony

I only purchase Craftsman items from Sears...and they always give me the multiplied points on the cc statement. It DOES say excludes Craftsman on the mall link, but I think they mean purchasing from craftsman.com

Also, I've used it with the usual sale prices/$5 sears coupons/F&F auto discount with no problems. Maybe I just got lucky? dunno...

EDIT: nevermind, Dangler is correct. My sears rewards activity was a bit spotty. I just had so many other things I assumed it was the Sears purchases. I guess not so slick after all...

I saw some mention of Li-ion batteries exploding.

Let me just state for the record that I had a flashlight that I replaced the batteries with Li-ions (manufacturer recommended), and it blew up in my hand and very nearly took off my thumb. It then turned into a roman candle with flames shooting out of where the bulb used to be extending over four inches. After throwing it on the ground an extinguisher wouldn't even put it out--it had to burn out.

DO NOT take these batteries lightly, they are explosive.

No. I did not sue the flashlight manufacturer, but I could have. Instead I just demanded, and received an apology, my money back, and a warning label on the light for future vicitims. They change battery manufacturers after that. If I lost my finger it would have ended differently, I can assure you.

He's talking about Chase credit card rewards, not the Sears rewards card. In any case, the Sears reward card does not apply to Craftsman items as it has kind of absorbed the Craftsman Club rewards program into it.

Some of those "points" cards are worthless, the "points" can't be used in combination with any other discount, and are limited to a total discount of just normal sale discounts like 20% off.
Again, he was talking about credit card points, which can be turned into cash or gift cards.

I have a pair of Kobalt needle nose, and they're just okay. The side cutters are probably "just okay" too, but for $5, they're worth it.

I thought this was pretty good at Lowes--regularly $12+, on sale for $5.98, Crescent 8 in adjustable wrench
http://www.lowes.com/pd_98100-273-A...escent&pl=1&currentURL=/pl__0__s?Ntt=crescent
Picked up the last two they had.
Wow, that is a pretty good deal. I bought an extra one for $11 last December. Not the greatest adjustable wrench around, but it's USA-made and pretty solid.

Yeah, but ,again, I wasn't impressed with the GearWrench sale prices at Lowes.
Tks,
Tony

If you need to supplement your set, the prices are pretty hard to beat. For example, the 9918, 18 mm flex head wrench, is anywhere from $20-$30 for the single wrench plus shipping, I just picked it today up for ~$11. Now the only size I am missing from 8mm to 19mm is the 11mm, none of the Lowe's around me still had it. I added the 8mm, 9mm, 16mm, 18mm to fill in the gaps for less than $30. So all told I am into this set for less than $70 (started with the 9900 set from Advance - some coupon code made it ~$40), ~$85 if I end up ordering the 11mm from Amazon, and the cheapest I have seen the equivalent set (9901) is ~$125.

Pretty sure promoting your own Ebay ad is not in the spirit of this thread... I can understand linking to a Ebay auction where someone has a dutch auction with several of the same item for a good price, but this....

Thats not mine but I did buy one. I live in Ontario. That is in Quebec so if you don't like the auction eff off and get your facts strait.

Just a word of warning. Valvoline DOES NOT recomend this oil for cars that have catalytic converters. I got all excited about this offer and decided to call them and ask.

what about using it in equipment (small engines)? The price is sure right

Nice! I run the dino oil version of this in my budget race car. Time to upgrade to synthetic :)

Ends up its a buy one get one free. As far as cats, they are cheaper than a top end rebuild on my car. I use Brad Penn oil which also has high levels of ZDDP.

In for 1. Thanks filtered, I don't have any stubby wrenches atm.

Patrick

Yeah Me too,
Got this metric set too, 10 piece, 10mm-19mm, $86.81.
With free shipping also.
There are "19 new from $76.00 " but does not come with free shipping, it's about $4.00 cheaper this way.
Just hope I get some use out of them.
To be honest, So far I have not run into too many times I have needed them.
As a side note, I have been out of control buying tools lately.

My guess, is this is CYA, zinc was lowered to protect the latest generation of catalytic converters, which require I think a SM grade of oil (low zinc). This stuff could be great for your old hot rod or anything else something like the Brad Penn would be suitable for.

I posted the offer in the Porsche forum which is nuts about oil, so I may know or at least hear more about the issues.

This HF lathe stand has been discontinued so they are on clearance at the stores

http://www.harborfreight.com/wood-lathe-stand-46407.html

My store only had the display model and it was marked down to $30 but it rang up at $19.50 for some reason. With a 20% percent coupon it was less than $16. With a bottom shelf and a top made for it it should be perfect as a stand for a grinder and bench top drill press. It's long enough to fit a third tool. Belt sander maybe.

Harbor Freight is clearing out all of their greyhound engines. These are honda clones and have good reviews all over the web.

$75 for a 6.5 horse horizontal shaft is a steal. Others on sale also:
http://www.harborfreight.com/engines-generators/gas-engines.html

My local store would not let me use a 20% off coupon, as they are a closeout item, they apparently had instructions from corporate, however, YMMV. Killer deal if you can use a coupon.

you can use the SHOP20 discount code when ordering online and get it for $59.99 and shipping is $9.99. Gas to pick it up at the local HF retail store would cost me more than the shipping charge.

just ordered 2 of them.
