Most people around here aren't satisfied with China-made locking pliers. The last USA-made lockers you'll find in a store that aren't NOS are from Craftsman.

There are 2 gearwrench vortex pass thru sets half off at sears a 49 piece and a 75 piece set, the 49 pc set doesn't have the 16 screwdriver bits but is has 1/4 in and a 3/8 ratchet the 75 pc set only has a 3/8 ratchet the 49 pc set is $24.99 the 75 pc set is $34.99. I think the 49 pc set is more useful.

This isn't an actual tool deal, but I have found a tool store called "Direct tool factory outlet" they sell the full line of Ridgid and Ryobi some new most refurbed , some milwuakee and irwin and a couple of other small brands, most everything is atleast half off retail. Last time there I picked up some ridgid hole saws some had arbors, the largest one was 6 in. it was $9.99 the smallest was 3/4 in. $0.99, they routinely have 30% off sales (off there price) I picked up 14 hole saws 4 gearwrench 5 pc sets 4 irwin speedbor bits for $98.

I have also picked up a ridgid Ridgid jp0610 jointer for $259

Anywhere there is a factory outlet mall there is probaly a direct tool factory outlet store. This should make shopping with the wife a little less dreadful.

ARGH don't tempt me with impact bits. I keep eyeing the Craftsman C3 impact driver even though I need it for like a couple screws on my car. Just noticed they are selling the C3 drill AND impact driver for less than the price of each alone.

Dangler, I have the Impact set you're talking about and I love it. Bought it off a recommendation from a poster here who uses it in the field all the time. Since I have the two batteries and charger already, I figure the driver would be a good deal, too.

Not sure if this is all Ace Hardware stores or just mine, but the Ace brand sockets and wrenches are on clearance. Most of which is Chinese made stuff, but some of it is rebranded GearWrench and made in Taiwan.

I bought a small set of X-beam wrenches just to see if i'd like them. They were only $12 bucks and made in Taiwan.

Are you sure it's a 12-pack? On their website, they don't show anything bigger than a 6-pack.

Positive. I have two in the garage.

This was found in-store here in TN.

My brother also got the same deal in Lexington, KY.

I bought two packs, he bought four.

Well, I'm off to clean em out then. I don't care if I have to take multiple trips to get them all home. I use those for the business (mechanic) and getting them at $0.83 vs $2.12 makes a hell of a difference to my bottom line. For that, I can afford to spend a hundred bucks and store them god knows where.


Hmm... shop towel couch? I do need someplace for customers to sit...

(I already have four batteries and the fancy $80 4-port charger/maintainer I bought in the closeout bin for $50.)

Also, Home Depot has the 12V Li-Ion DeWalt drill and driver kit with the 12V work light at $199.

I bought my drill and driver kit at $199 and later bought the 12V work light at $40.

My brother was in town this past weekend and loved my 12V DeWalt drill and was checking in to buying a set like mine so I've been looking around for him.

Don't see this online, but found it in the store. Better deal than what I got so I thought I'd share.

Visited 3 stores in the central Ohio area. Not only don't they have the 12-packs on sale, they don't even have a SKU in their computers for a 12-pack. :(

Okay so I ended up coming across a Kobalt 4-piece locking pliers set at lowes.com. Yes, I know they are made in China and not as good as the old USA Petersen Vise grips or those made by Grip-On in Spain, Knipex of Germany etc. However, for a 4 piece set at $9.99 with local store pickup I think this is a good deal. They have a full lifetime warranty and in my opinion are better than the harbor freight ones and maybe comparable to the newer China Irwin locking pliers. Overall, I think the Kobalt brand is better than its low priced competitors when it comes to pliers, such as those brands found at biglots, husky depot, harbor freight etc. One advantage of buying a tool with a lifetime warranty from a store such as lowes or home depot is that, if you frequent those stores a lot to pick up materials for jobs etc, its not really much out of your way to bring your occasional broken tools back for an easy exchange. Sure I'd rather have one of the 'good' brands for pliers but when the price is cheap enough I don't mind adding a little filler here and there... know what I mean? :)

10 bucks for that set is a good deal, imported or not. I'd cut that "comfort" **** off of the handles though. I HATE that junk!

Over at sellout.Woot, they've got these small B&D LED flex-head flashlight 2-packs for $5 + $5 shipping.

I ordered 3 2-packs for $20 shipped. I figure I can pop one into every family member's glove box and still have 1 or 2 leftover to play with. I'm also betting that these are made by the same folks that make Stanley's LED products. If not, and they're junk, oh well. I trust the B&D name more than I do no-name companies.

I seem to recall wanting to order a few things from them many times before... but for the life of me cant remember what they were now!

Their Knipex and Wera prices seem to be a bit outrageous so far...

I've been thinking of upgrading my industrial finish wrenches to something a little better than the Neikos I currently own. This might provide the incentive to do just that and then simply fill the cart with fluff to get to the 7 items! Thanks!

For MSC, be sure to check their sales flyers - I've seen a few Wera products in there that are far lower priced than on the website and main catalog. You probably get a better deal than 25% off, & you'll still get free shipping.

My local Ace had a lot on clearance. I picked up some NOS Made in USA vice grips and some channel lock needle nose pliers. Also, the 7R vice grips are a "hot buy" item at 5 bucks. Ace is the place for Made in USA NOS tools :)

I was shocked too, I've seen several posts about the chinese ones chipping chrome, some with spots that are not chromed, etc. I had to run down to check the Advanced auto 5 pc sets I got for $15 just to check, thankfully all my GW are still Taiwan made. Imagine that, I'm thankful they're Taiwan made!

Indeed a sad state of affairs as you said. After looking over Snapon's prospective and YOR last year and seeing only 6 factories left in the states, most of which make non labeled tools for the DOD you know the end is near.

It won't be long until we're all looking thru yard sales, estate sales, etc to find good old tools. Everytime I see an old school vice grip now I buy it, in fact most of my craigslist, estate/yard sale snooping has become focused on buying up as many US made tools as I can afford knowing that one day I'll pass them along to someone like the people in this forum who will not only appreciate them but cherish them as much as I do.
