On the compressor deals, I am wondering if the stores that are denying the "clearance" price only have the new style in stock? I was at one of my local Lowe's stores yesterday and they have the new 30-gallon 155 psi compressor on the floor. It is not a Sanborn unit like the one that is being clearanced out. It is a re-badged Campbell Hausfeld...

http://www.lowes.com/pd_53661-1126-...br|0||p_product_qty_sales_dollar|1&facetInfo=

In my case, no. It was the 1.6. Same item. I had computer printouts of the relevant web page with model information, picture, etc.

Just scored on that K compressor with my local Lowes. $196.45 out the door with a lot of added back and forth BS from the manager. First - they couldn't confirm my printed out copy of the Lowes pricing from Exeter, then couldn't find the store number to call, then told me it was a misprint and that they did not have to honor any other Lowes pricing. I then asked him how I could come in with a 10% coupon from any Home Depot which they would honor but would not honor this from another Lowes - He then folded and rang it up...... Thanks for the heads up on this - I needed one. Can't tell if I have the old or new crappy one...... Stop sending these deals - I'm going broke!!!!

I can't find it at the exetor webpage, tried for the last 2 day. Can you scan the copy you had? My local Lowes has 1 compressor left and another guy got them to sell it to him at that price.. I just need the paper...

So Close! She said she had to talk to accouple people, but they agreed to match the price and they did the price override. As she was handing the cash to purchase, some higher up store manager called to put a stop to it. DOH! I guess the lower price kicked some red flag. She said the best bet would be to try ordering it from the PA store. :\ DANGIT. Might try another store

Used chrome Snap-On Speed Handle's 1/4" Drive for $5.99ea plus shipping. Same item is $38.00 new from SO. Currently showing 184 available in stock. I have bought other items from Uncle Sam's in the past and have been happy with what I received.

John

$5.99 plus $11.64 (!!!) shipping in a USPS $4.95 Flat Rate Envelope. The speeder I received had heavy grinding marks in two places where names or numbers had been removed. I hope that other GJ members who purchased one of the speeders from Uncle Sam's got a better product for the price than I did.
I won't be purchasing anything from them again.

But at least:
Eliminates messy wash bucket

I can't tell you how many times I've thought to myself, damn, these tin snips would be perfect, but they make for such a messy wash bucket!

WARNING on the Snips:
Lesson learned the hard way at amazon.com. If the picture differs from the description you might get the picture. I got a giant 23lb BT50 Jacobs Mill Chuck instead of a 5mm socket once when Danaher merged part numbers with Jacobs. The description was a socket the picture (tiny) was a chuck. I got the chuck (let me know if anyone runs a BT50 Mill....

Kobalt 50pc mechanic's air tool kit #35546 (regularly $99) is being phased out in favor of a new kit ($109) which matches their other new air tools. In my local store, it was marked $79.20 on clearance, but I got it out the door with a little talking for $38.60. That's only $5.63 more than the air ratchet in the kit alone, or $8.64 more than the impact without the boot. This kit is very similar to the 4-tool kit at $49, which isn't in stores near me. Ordinarily, I wouldn't shop outside IR, CP and SO for air tools, but I couldn't pass up the deal.

Your Lowes experience and pricing may vary. I've been very lucky with Lowes the past couple of weeks. This kit, like anything else online, has mixed reviews. The tools are made in China and have a 3-year warranty.

I stopped by the "corporate" Lowe's in Mooresville NC today and was told the same thing. Price is valid, not a clearance item. But they wouldn't match price because it was a non-stock item.

Lowe's customer service rocks. I sent an email asking if I could buy the compressor for $183 from the W Philly store and pay to have it shipped. Got a call back yesterday afternoon and the lady told me they couldn't do that, but she could work it out for my local store to match the price.

Out the door of the same store that turned me down earlier this week, with my new compressor for under $200.

HD had some Estwing framing hammers on clearance for $18 in tool section. They were LONG and had a notch for twisting 2bys into position. YMMV

For those that dont want to gamble with amazon snip deal, Harry Epstein has some good deals on USA rigid snips
http://store.harryepstein.com/c/RidgidTool.html

and 7" taiwan Irwins
http://store.harryepstein.com/cp/IrwinIndustrial/23007.html

I picked these up last week with an order of USA vice grips
http://store.harryepstein.com/cp/RidgidTool/831-537.html ...beefy $11 SOBs

And for those of you who dont own any of the LW series vice grips, they have them cheap right now. Great for holding anything round without smashing sharp teeth marks into it. All are around $10-$13

Estwing on clearance at home depot? Really? That hammertooth model you speak of is pretty new as well... $18 is like half price!

I just got mine in today. I bought three since the shipping was $13 for three, instead of $11.64 for one.

I have the same grinding marks as you, on all three. Not thrilled about them, since the speeders appear to be new otherwise, but I can live with it.

However the flat rate envelope was damaged in shipment and I got a note from the post office apologizing for it. I think Uncle Sam's Retail Outlet should do the apologizing, especially since they charged $13.39 for shipping and sent three speeders in a $4.75 flat rate envelope-- no wonder the package was damaged. I'll start by emailing them and go from there.

I don't know if it's nationwide, but my local Sears clearance bin had what I thought was a good deal on some Footprint brand hand planes. I picked up a Footprint 4B smooth plane for $10 and a Footprint 60 1/2 low angle block plane also for $10. They were marked as "reduced price" at ~$20 each, but the bin was 50% off, so ~$10/each. I don't know much about the brand, but I didn't have any planes at all, and figured I couldn't go wrong at $10 each. From what I can tell online, they normally sell for $35-55 depending on where you get them. I'm far from a plane expert, but they appear to be pretty decent quality.

The clearance bin was also stuffed full of craftsman professional screwdrivers with rubberized grips. They did not look to me to be of the quality you would expect from craftsman's professional line. They looked really cheap and I didn't end up getting any. They also had a ton of craftsman files, all types, the kind without the handles, for ~$2 after 50% off. There was also a couple of craftsman round files with handles for around $3 after the 50% off. I did pick up a couple of usa made dasco brand mason chisels too. They were roughly ~$4/each after the 50% off, and they had a few different sizes. No grip on them, but made in USA. I got home and they weren't as good of a deal as I hoped, but still, 2 usa made mason chisels for $8, not bad. There were a bunch of different types of craftsman tin snips available as well at 50% off. I don't remember the price, but I want to say between $7-10 after the 50% off, depending on the size and shape of them (they had several). Nothing else really caught my eye. YMMV.

Do you mind explaining how you talked Lowes into giving it to you for half price?

Got the Amazon 10" Irwin snips today. Was not a sponge! And made in Taiwan, not China, so I'm happy.

No go at my Lowes in IN for that compressor, they did offer me 10% extra off and I could use my 10% movers coupon too.
