I never see much clearance at my local Sears either, sometimes a small table with missing-parts returns but never a good deal.
Yeah, my Sears is pitiful.
One time they had that Wilton Clone Craftsman pro vise there, missing all of the hardware (basically all that was left was the castings, the main screw, and one of the jaws). It had been sitting in the clearance section for months and months, and so I figured I'd see if I could pick it up for half off or something since I could pretty easily replace the parts since I work in a machine shop.
The vise normally sells for $125 and happened to be on sale that week, brand new in box for $107. I asked the manager about the used return vise, and what the best price they could do was, and to my amazement, she said $112.50 for 10% off open box.
I said, "So you're telling me, that the VERY best price you can do on a used vise missing all of its parts, that is so partial that no average user could ever put it to use, is more expensive than the brand new complete unit in box?"
[rudely]"Yes, sir, that's what I'm telling you"
I basically told her that she's insane and should go see a doctor if she thinks that vise will EVER sell, that she's insane for not trying to deal with me, probably the only person that will EVER make an offer to buy the vise, and good luck.
I saw the vise for months and months every time I went into the store, until finally it was gone one day. I asked the one guy that works there that I can stand what happened to it, and he said, "Oh, the manager finally had us throw it out, she said it was just taking space since nobody was interested in buying it."
Is it any surprise that Sears is in trouble, with morons like that running the stores?
