Wish I knew, I look around from time to time on ebay or swap meets, but so far I have been buying Painless wire from which ever vendor has what I need shipped the cheapest.

A dozen spools of TXL wire would not be cheap, and I do enough in the engine compartment that the 140F rated "hookup" wire isn't much use, but this place "looks" interesting.

http://www.oemsurplus911.com/calterm/calwire.htm

Here is a snip from another forum on wire.

Not all wire is created equal. For an automotive application, you shouldn't just buy any plain old wire. I would recommend a cross linked insulated wire, commonly GXL or TXL.
From Waytek:
"The SXL has a standard wall jacket, while the GXL has a thin wall jacket
and the TXL has an extra thin jacket. Because of its ability to withstand high
temperatures, all three are typically used in high temperature areas such as
engine compartments."
Painless and other harness manufactures use cross linked, and Painless uses TXL. Relative cost is GXL cheapest, TXL in the middle, SXL most expensive. If space is a concern, use TXL. All will function the same. You can buy Painless TXL in your quantities from any Painless seller or Summit, but it is nearly three times as expensive.

Other considerations: Pico brand wire spools available at some auto parts stores, such as Car Quest, (though I don't know if it is cross linked) are at your quantities and is very good wire. Summit sells the same stuff under their Summit brand in 100' spools. I am not real positive on the stuff you get from Napa (though I don't think there is anything wrong with it except that the insulation is very thick). Do not buy wire from an electronics supply house, as it is not intended for automotive or harsh conditions.

www.waytekwire.com is on my list of places I check, but I'm kinda bottom line with branded items, ie painless part number X, wherever X is cheapest.

One suggestion I am giving serious thought, cut a deal with a junkyard and pull some wire harnesses from a few late model cars that use a premium wire (Ford and Chrysler both do), then cut them up and make your own assortment.

How much is shipping? i've never seen a listing that doesnt show shipping prices?

From the bottom of the listing

i.e. Shipping is $10 for the 1st one and $3 each additional. You buy 3 of that item – it will look like this: 10 + 3 + 3 = $16 shipping – After you pay, if we find that we are able to ship this particular order to your location for a lot less than the eBay quote of $16 then we will issue you a credit back to your paypal account. We do utilize USPS Flat Rates and take them into consideration when combining orders and sending adjusted invoices.

Just came back from Lowe's - they have a great deal if you need a nice miter saw. If you buy a $600 Bosch 12" sliding/compound miter saw then you get a Bosch T4B mobile miter saw stand for free ($300 value). This deal expires 10/31.

I went in just to buy the stand since I already have a saw (not nearly as nice as the Bosch though) but contemplated buying the saw to sell it for $450 and keep the stand. They let me use the a HF 20% coupon though so I just did that to avoid the hassle of trying to sell the saw. I paid $253 out the door for the T4B stand.

I think it just varies, some places works, some doesn't, might depend on whether its a magazine type coupon or something printed at home.

Ymmv, I've never gotten it to work. Hd usually offers me 10% though, and the cashier has always applied it to the entire order instead of the 1 tool I was trying to use it on. usually Works out better that way if you are buying supplies for a project.

You can also use the one time use coupons from lowes as many times as you want at hd.

I got the full 20% off my Husky Pro air compressor at Home Depot with a Harbor Freight coupon. I think it depends on the manager you deal with -- and of course it's got to be the type of item you could get at either place.

Got my 1/4 inch drive Kobalt 20 piece set from Lowes and my IR temperature sensor from Amazon today - both look nice. Glad I didn't buy the short 1/4 inch extension last weekend when I was in Lowes for $4.95, I'd have been a bit miffed I didn't get the whole set! The ratchet decent IMHO, and the wife's seat of pants is 88F. :headscrat

Is $144 a good deal for these?

It's around the current street price for that SK wrench set. I can save an extra $5 over that by ordering from AAP using the VISA coupon code ($50 off $150) and paying tax. Not bad, but not smoking hot.

Went to lowes and got the 1/4 20 piece set. Also picked up a 3/8 40 piece for $24. It's quite nice looking and has the "lifetime" guarantee. Small case will be easy to pack.

went to lowe's. Out of the 1/4 20 piece set. Picked up the stubbies (made in Taiwan) which look ok (considering). The other wrenches were chinesium, but I picked up a pack of channel locks for the car tool bag.

Using my HF 20% coupon, the first guy said they would give me 10% off my entire order. Then, when I went through the line, the cashier asked somebody else who gave me 20% off one item. This bodes well for any future big purchases through them.

$50 with craftsman club discounts

for me I am starting to buildout my toolbox and needed a set of wrenches that will last forever. I figure $50 for 32 made in USA will last long time.
That seems like a good price. The 9pc sets dropped to $15 recently, and if you watch them you can snag the two for $30 total next time around. But this is a more complete set.

Raised panel wrenches are a bit shorter than most pro-wrenches, but should last you a long time. A lot of people here did the same - started with raised panel Craftsman and upgraded later on. Even if/when you upgrade, they'll still come in handy.

If you order them, do so from Sears: http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00946937000P Coupon SEARS2011 gives you an extra $5 off $50.

Set shows up as $46.74 in my cart.

I have noticed that the raised panel / more inexpensive wrenches are shorter. Didn't know that the 'pro' ones were longer. I've had a few times where I wish the wrenches were longer.

So, for us weekend warriors, best option for longer / 'pro-style' wrenches?

Wait until Sears runs a good deal on the Craftsman Pro wrench set. I have a set of them and a set of Snap-On's and both are similar size and are comfortable in your hand.

The raised panel wrenches ARE shorter.

I'm not a fan of the new replacement Craftsman Professional/Full Polish wrenches, which are a longer pattern, from a design standpoint.

If COO isn't an issue (and if you're considering new stock Craftsman Pro/Full Polish, then it likely isn't), for non-ratcheting combos in the same price point, I'd look at:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000K1OH94/?tag=atomicindus08-20

and

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000NICGBU/?tag=atomicindus08-20

If I were shopping for long pattern full polish combos today, I'd be staring real hard at these, unless a better option in the same price range came up.

COO = country of origin?

why do you prefer the gearwrench over the cman?

re: the cman..what would be considered a 'good deal' on those?

thanks

Because the new cmans are not made in the usa. The discontinued professionals were. The new ones are called fully polished and are made in china. The gearwrench i believe are made in taiwan. Do a search for cman pro wrenches. There are about a dozen threads on the subject.

thanks...much appreciated. Bummer, I guess, would be if one got a hold of the older cman, broke one, and had to end up with a inferior replacement. That would ****...

I think I'd just as soon get the Kobalt full polish set...1/2 the price and made in Taiwan. Still 'forever' warranty...not totally sure they're longer, however, so would have to check..
