the sk deal from granger seems to be official. the latest granger email has the fixed head unit listed as clearance

I'm willing to be its NOS ratchets that hey had to take on in the agreement or something. I got my fixed yesterday and opened it up and the grease seemed old and dried. Some new superlube and its a dream.

Anyone know of good deal on a 6pt. metric combination wrench set available now? I see Sears has a set of 12 raised panel wrenches for $29.99 but I don't know if they are the quality of the older USA made wrenches, they don't state COO.

Any other deals out there?

Sears sells theirs for between $26-$29 on sale (although the 9 pc 7-16 is now on sale for $15!), I have the metric 7-18 and bought the 19mm additional. IMO they are excellent. Excellent fit, chrome, etc. IMO the Craftsman raised panel wrenches are better than they ever have been.

Feel free to check out the 6 vs 12 point contact points, I took some pics

I'm in for a flex head... would've gotten both, but I'm eyeballing the whole 1/2" socket set that includes one of the fixed head ones.

I tried to add it but they are showing out of stock...damn...should've gone in yesterday, had no idea they were under $15, that is nuts.

Those wrenches are made in India by a company named Baum, and they are stamped Baum on the wrenches.

http://www.baum.co.in/

I don't own any and have never seen them in person. I was just interested in finding out more about them when they were first released by Wiha.

humm all of their pliers and dikes all look like the wiha stuff too...

SK Ratchet is completely out of stock now... I called my Grainger and they said there are no more, even though they are giving me a date of the 13th. The lady tried to up-sell me one.

Is Grainger still B2B only?

Several years ago I tried to buy something retail at their local outlet and I was turned away. The guy said they don't do retail and weren't set up to collect sales tax. :headscrat

Not for anything, but even a b2b is required to collect sales tax. The only time you don't pay it is if you are buying an item for resale.

He should have told you the truth which is they don't want to screw around with small sales. They think selling to businesses nets larger dollar amounts. Not always the case. And they're already priced at retail on a lot of their stuff, so I don't see what they think they're gaining.

That's not entirely accurate. Numerous small business (if not most) have Tax ID numbers and Grainger is not required to collect sales tax for these accounts, regardless of what the item is purchased for. The laws vary state to state, so that may be where the confusion comes from.

Sears has the 299 piece easy read socket set on sale right now for $349.00. I'm sure you can apply additional coupons if you have them. This is the cheapest price I've seen in a while...they usually retail at $479.00. Expires today.

I was out the door with tax and shipping at right around $350.00. At at about $1.17 per socket, I'm very happy! These will replace my "not so easy read?" sockets that I got about 10 years ago from one of those mechanics sets. I'll hold onto those and who knows, perhaps I'll make some money off of them in 5 or so years when Craftsman becomes Chinamen!

I saw after the fact that there was a $35 Visa coupon but it was cheaper to apply the REALJOY coupon for free shipping than it would be to apply the Visa coupon. California tax is what really kills it.

I did the same thing several months ago. I planned on putting the old ones up for sale but after seeing that craftsman is moving a lot of their had tool production overseas I'm holding on to the old ones.

I sent customer service an email and they told me retail orders don't show up and that my order was shown as completed even though it had been canceled- would have never known if I had not reached out to them, pretty poor service.

Not necessarily, if you choose to download your order history, in txt or xml format, you should see something. That said, Grainger has one of the worst order tracking mechanisms ever. Search by order date or part number and it says you've never made an order.

I assume the non-existent order history is because the ratchets haven't shipped yet. For the chance at $16 SK ratchets I can put up with it but it's pretty annoying. No question Grainger is set up to cater to industry and government and business orders, not the little guys.

It's pretty sad they send out order confirmation emails and then cancel your order without any notification........little guy or not. With the kind of business they do on a larger scale you would think they could invest in an inventory and order management system that would be better.

They've done it to me twice as well. Ordered that welder back when it was a crazy deal, order just disappeared (we know they were all cancelled) though they did call and offer 20% off.

Then again with that sledgehammer close out. Ordered 2, the order disappeared online, they called, said they found only one left in a warehouse (not two), did I want it, I said yes, she said OK, and I never heard from them again, never charged my card, never got the sledge.

Which is why I didn't bother for the SK wrench. Don't want to be checking my card every day for the next few weeks/months wondering what's going on. They clearly do not want business from individuals.

I tried to deal with Grainger a few years ago. Basically, don't come in here w/o a PO. It wasn't a rude send off, just that 'final' tone. I've looked at their catalog from time to time for price comparisons and they seem to be the highest on a regular basis. So I guess I'm not missing anything. :monkey_po

I called Grainger today, and they confirmed my order, told me where it was in transit (on it's way to my local outlet), and told me the approximate day it would be in for pick up...

Hmm.. Sure hope it doesn't get cancelled after reading some stuff here..

I completed my Grainger order online for some of the SK 1/2 swivel ratchets (great Christmas gifts) and got a confirmation email pretty quickly. I got an email the next day saying I needed to complete my order, WTF? When I clicked on the link in this email I was taken back to the website and asked to log back onto my account where there was no order history. Called the support number from the order confirmation email, waited about two minutes on hold, and was quickly told no history since I didn't use my business account. I had her confirm the order was being shipped and after checking she said my credit card was declined. I asked why and she looked and found no notation, no reason, nothing. First time this has EVER happened to me. She re-ordered it shipped to my local store for pickup, estimated to be mid December. Same order number and I will pay at pickup. I have my doubts but at least the customer service agent was friendly and helpful. I could hear people in the background talking about ratchets being out of stock FWIW.

By India company? man oh man, that will be much worse than 'made in China'.

In a rather thorough combo wrench test done by a German magazine a wrench imported from India actually scored quite highly. They've actually been forging wrenches there for decades.

Cant believe people are upset at not getting their clunky SK ratchet. They're not that great and the head's fat.
