Interesting you could get SHIP4FREE to work on the 14 pc combo set at Sears. I tried that also and just tried again and still can't get SHIP4FREE to work (with two sets in the cart so I was over the $99 minimum). Sears has the worst website. The PRESIDENT code at mygofer.com works on orders over $49. The extra $15 off would have been nice.

Mygopher had these on sale a few months back and I bought a set and they were the USA made version. I looked yesterday at my local Sears to see if I could find another set but no luck. While there I did pick up 2ea of the 1 1/4" and 1 1/2" USA wrenches to add to the set. I ordered another set online last night so hopefully these are in fact the closeout of the USA wrenches.

Bad thing is Oreilly does the "bait and switch". You go in to all their stores and the "special deal" product is out. I got so mad I refuse to go into them anymore. Anyone else have the same "issue"? It doesn't take more than a couple of trips to realize the cost in going for "the deal" is a waste.

Went last week to pick up the mobil 5000 five quarts and filter deal for $10. Already sold out but the one down the street had it. Two oil changes for $20 was pretty sweet.

they took a HF coupon?

Its very much a ymmv thing but big box stores generally take competitor coupons. The only restriction is some can be more strict; for example HF doesnt sell wood so you probably wont be getting them to accept a 20% off coupon on plywood.

I think he got lucky and the person at HD that took it did not understand their price match/coupon policy.

All the HD's in the SE MI area take the HF coupon. So far I have only had objections to using it on items from the marked down shelf that are already marked down because they are damaged or missing things.
They work regularly on items marked down from holiday sales. They have even worked on non tool items like toilet paper and light bulbs. They have also been applied to the whole order even though the coupon is for one item. And finally, they have worked without the scan code and printed with a printer that printed them all pink or orange. They also work at Lowes. I carry a supply and always try them. It is worth a shot. My wife carries a supply too, now to save a little money. It's not a price match. They call it something like a customer competitor adjustment.

When a cashier doesn't know what to do, the head cashier approves the coupon. Haven't had a problem yet, but usually use on $5-$20 purchases.

That's completely idiotic.

For the rest of the civilized world, it is manager-specific. I would venture to say even given that, the odds of success are not great. Worth a shot, but don't be pissed if you get shot down.

Toilet paper? Really? No wonder managers don't want to honor the coupon.

I got them to take one on a set of miniblinds but then the following week I tried to use it on a small 3 gal compressor and they told me no. :headscrat

My HD is clearing out some Crescent wrenches. Got this USA made 10" adjustable for $8 (Reg $14.95) and then used HF 20% coupon to get for $6.40.

The HD policy is that is must be the exact same product. Usually, you can't compare a 20% off coupon for some junk Pittsburgh adjustable wrench when your trying to buy a Crescent brand that's made in USA. That's what HD's corporate office had in mind...:headscrat

Like I said, "lucky". I would bet that if you look at the published coupon/price matching policy of any major retail chain, the competitors coupon or advertised discount has to list the specific item and that item has to be also sold in the store you are trying to redeem in. A generic "20% off" is an abuse of the policy.

I am not knocking the guy that got the great deal on the Cresent wrench, but his coupon should have been for the exact Cresent wrench from Harbor Freight for which we all know HF does not sell.

I would like to see someone go buy a high dollar mower or snow blower at lowes/HD and whip that 20% coupon out and see how it works.

As has been said repeatedly, it depends on the store and the drone you get. Here in LA, the HD will sometimes refuse to honor an OSH coupon for the exact same item!! Explanation: it's printed from your computer. Well, that's how OSH sent me the coupon, by email. Doesn't matter, we don't honor coupons printed by consumers. I raise a ruckus and get a manager, who lets it slide.

I used a HF 20% coupon at Lowes before, but they said their policy was 10% if you use a competitor coupon, which was fine with me since I had to explain what Harbor Freight was in the first place. Lol

SEARS: up to 50% off all mechanic's tool sets and tool storage
FREE SHIPPING on purchases over $99 with promo code: SHIP4FREE

there are some good deals, but only a couple of sets are 50% off, the others are much, much less. the only large set that is noteworthy i think is the 300 pc set.

I didn't think the recent made in usa ones were worth all that much to be honest.

I'll have to do a comparison, but just a couple notes. They have a machined face on each side of the fixed and movable jaw areas. The mechanism seems loose in the slot but works smoothly and the jaws close evenly. The piece is some kind of sand cast, not polished finish, with a very wide cross section to the handle (Great for leverage. Might be difficult to get handle in skinny spaces or slots. Photos and comparison later.

Just wanted to share so you guys could benefit.

I don't consider it abuse. I offer it. They can decline it or put conditions on it. I don't know corporate policy or really care. If they don't accept it I have the choice to not make the purchase or to go ahead anyway.

BTW, they have a 10% policy for military.

May not work for me next time.

Not a tool but a great deal. Almost free Quaker State full synthetic after rebate. It's $20.50 for a 5-quart jug at WalMart, and QS has a 20-back MIR. I usually wouldn't post an oil deal but this is fantastic.

Discussed here: http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=2534019&page=1

Thanks for this link. Bought two 5 qt jugs at my local WM of the synthetic stuff. $22.01 each out the door, so with the $20.00 rebate my net cost is about $.50/qt! Can't beat that.

The rebate is also on the other grades such as the high mileage and regular versions, but with $15 or $10 rebate.

Trinity 41" Tool chest is on sale for $800 at Costco...

Any opinions on it?

http://www.costco.com/Browse/Produc...ng=en-US&Sp=C&hierPath=114*860*28175*&topnav=

they are pretty decent and considering it includes delivery, that's very convenient if you don't have a vehicle to transport it in. costco will stand behind the products they sell too, so the benefits of your membership is probably just as good any manufacturer warranty.

personally, my problem with the recent Trinity boxes sold by Costco in the USA is that they have fewer drawers and too many of the drawers are too deep. I mostly store automotive repair tools, so I prefer many shallow drawers. but if what you plan to store in the box are larger tools that would work better with deeper drawers, then it might work perfect for you. depends on how you want to use it...

the older CSPS or Hammerhead boxes Costco use to sell had more drawers...

I bought the 27" version a few years ago - i'm a really light duty owner, but its been good, the drawers roll nice (they've loosened since i bought it) and it rolls pretty easy loaded up. I still think the stainless loos awesome when its cleaned up, but it does show finger prints and i'm too lazy too keep it wiped down. I would agree with Bimmer that the drawer configuration isn't great, i would definitely trade the deeper drawers for a larger count of shallow drawers.

Overall i think its ok value and the looks are good. I would buy again.

I don't know if this was posted, but I was at Home Depot picking up the clearance Channellock cutters when they were running a deal on a tool box.

It's a top and bottom, wider box (maybe 41"?), I think the top was $119 and the bottom was $260. I am pretty sure it was a special. It didn't look too bad for a DIY type. It had the same "Ball Bearing" sticker as the Craftsman ball bearing series. The top was a nice reinforced top with gas struts. I didn't see the bottom in person, they were boxed up. The drawers closed nice, and stayed closed but I didn't feel the typical detent.

Seemed like regular old late model Craftsman though for a cheap price, and a little larger than usual. Don't quote me exactly on price, though. They were all sitting on a pallet in the tool section.

Home Depot et al get tool boxes to sell during the holidays and blow them out a month or so later. Usually they are nothing special in terms of quality.

Its easy to make a drawer open and close nicely when empty, best to test them with a load similar to a batch of tools.

The trick with used oil is how is it fixed up? Could be good as new, could be not as good.

It's my understanding that a gallon of used motor oil will yield 2.5 quarts of quality used oil, since re-refining removes lighter fractional distillates, water, the former (used) additives, etc.

In general, you take crude oil and refine it to make a lubricant. This is called base lube stock. Then you have to take that base lube stock and blend it with additives in order to put it into a passenger car. That's what gives it much of its color actually. You're essentially adding an anti-foaming additive, a dispersant and a detergent.

When you put the oil into the engine, it is degraded by heat and oxidation. As all the additives start to break down, the engine starts to wear more. That puts some heavy metals into the oil. The anti-foaming additive breaks down and you start to get water mixing with the oil and making sludge. The same breakdown happens with the dispersant and the detergent. That's the reason they recommend to change it every X number of miles because of the thermal degradation and oxidation. The additives only have a certain life span.

Used oil is cleaned by using pretty conventional refinery technologies. One of them is vacuum distillation, which dewaters the oil. Used motor oil comes with somewhere between 5 and 7 percent water in it. The first thing you have to do is get the water out of it.

Then a process called wiped-film evaporation is applied to the freshly de-watered motor oil. This separates out all the contaminants and additives that are put into passenger car motor oils. Then after that, it goes through a hydrotreating process that gets up to 700 degrees Fahrenheit under around 1,100 PSI of pressure. That infuses hydrogen back into the hydrocarbon molecules and makes it a very high quality re-refined oil.
