As for the CM thin profile ratchets, they look great, but there is so much play in the mechanism of both 3/8 and 1/4 that they simply don't perform that well.

I will kick in $10 towards a pool for someone to buy this wrench as long as the purchaser agrees to put extreme effort into wasting as much of Sears Customer Service Center resources and time as possible. If someone has a ton of free time and can call up and repeatedly cancel, pester, and point out the obvious price mistake as grounds for no real contract to buy being made or whatever B.S. they can think up, I will PayPal funds as soon as we have the purchase price covered. I would want a separate thread detailing the process so I can enjoy it.
I started to type this as a spoof but I am remembering my own private Service Center cluster-F moments and I am in if someone has the time and resolve to do this. Maybe going as far as setting up a new PayPal account to add another tool to use in returning the aggravation.
I'm not set on the terms and I have no idea if/how far this could be taken. The total cost would have to be raised because the buyer could very well be stuck with the wrench by the time all is said and done.
As to why I'm not offering to do this myself I am the damn model by which Sears Customer Dis-Service depends on: NO time to waste on hold contesting the latest on-line catastrophe (despite the occasional posting by yours truly I could never devote the free time this could take), a memory of Sears from the past that seems to trump the reality today, and being in-the-know enough that I get my share of decent values from Sears over the years, and until I blow my top I am really uncomfortable being pushy while after doing so I could easily be dismissed as a lunatic because of being in a state of near stroke.
While I still know a few great store salespeople I think even they would really enjoy following the saga.
To avoid having a bunch of replies in this thread here is a link to a new thread in the general tool section. http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=2290139#post2290139.
If this happens it would take a consensus as to who posses the skills, the self control, creativity, and the time to attempt this. I can't imagine it would be a new member. Hit up the new thread and air out your ideas, just not in this thread.
I will copy and paste this posting there.
I feel better already.

I just picked up a set and they are offset. They are also $39.99 on the shelf. They don't have to be ordered online.
Saw this on SD and figured I would pass it along.

First six links here are no longer working. Must have been pulled. Wonder if the order I just placed will be honored.
Sorry about that. I fixed my post. They all work now.
Steve
I wonder if they realize that if they would just drop their normal price on this stuff they could sell it. Most won't buy until it's clearanced because the normal price is absurd.
All of the items are also listed here for quick perusal:

Good Deal! Thanks Guys. This is my official first HOT Deal index buy. Until now, I have been using the Craftsman ratchets I got for Christmas in 1984.![]()
I ordered one of each of the Gearwrenches. Not sure if i will like the cushon grips, but for that price I will take 'em as well. We'll see if they all come....
Did some quick Googling and found a list of rebuild kits for all of the non quick-release Gearwrench ratchets:
Matco 88 tooth rebuild kits:
AFR8TK (1/4")
BFR8TK (3/8")
CFR8TK (1/2")
GearWrench 60 tooth ratchets:
81011 (1/4")
81211 (3/8")
81304 (1/2")
Agreed.
I mean, i like these clearances as much as the next guy, but there's something absurd about resorting to selling Gearwrench ratchets at Harbor Freight prices just to move some inventory.
I bet they sell more Gearwrench ratchets TODAY than they have in the last YEAR.
was this a one or two day sale? today they are up to full price again.
