It looks like they decided to offer their calendar electronically. Meaning, no coupons, as far as I can tell. *grumble*

I keep checking to see if there are any "exclusive" coupons, but there haven't been any.

The children working behind the counter at my local store said that it's electronic only, that you have to download it.

Didn't they do this last year, though? I seem to remember a downloadable calendar, and then the store actually had a print calendar some time in April or May...

Your link is broken.

Last year they had a downloadable calendar AND a printed calendar. The download was a PDF and was identical to the printed one, but it did not include coupons.

This year's "calendar" is a downloadable application. It is basically a calendar "widget" that also delivers content from Sears. They "alert" you to "exclusive" promotions. I gave it a try in January and found it to be rather ordinary. As for the promotions and specials, they're no different than the emails Sears frequently sends me. There isn't any advanced notice of any kind, or any coupons, at least thus far. I also do not appreciate that it "phones home" to Sears in order to deliver updates or alerts.

If I recall correctly, there were not many details about the exact nature of the communications between one's computer and Sears once the calendar program is installed. I'll need to reinstall it one of these days just to make sure, but I frankly don't trust Sears, especially since they got caught installing software on unsuspecting customers who used one of their shopping services.

Privacy concerns aside, I am not convinced that downloading and installing the calendar program will result in any additional savings. Does it offer $10 off $50 coupons? Not to my knowledge. Nor has it told me anything that I did not already know.

Maybe it's time I "reviewed" the calendar program...

mickeyone, which NJ Sears did you see those at? I already have a set that I paid 24.99 for, but at that price I'd pick up another one.

One of the sears employees told me that the calender would be available in printed version a couple months into the year. This guy was about 5 beers short of a 6 pack though so I didn't really put to much value on his commentary.

MSC has a one day only 35% off everything if you buy 5 or more different items. Offer code WEB35.

Now if there were just a free shipping promo in effect, too... :D

Edit: misspelled offer code... Fixed now.

That compressor from Grainger has been out of stock for 6 months. I spotted it online in the summer. Went to the nearest Grainger and found it wasn't available. Can't believe it is still on the site.

Yep, I saw that too and posted it via TG. Thanks for the reminder, though. I too am holding out for another free shipping double promo sale. =)

Thanks for the info, I'll update the 1st post accordingly.

I also added a link to a brief mention of MSC & Sears Presidents Day sales. I wrote it up this morning and it's due to be published on TG any minute now.

(am I supposed to put the link to the GJ thread, or to the actual deal from Sears.com?)
The thread is good. I put it up as "GJ discussion" since I already linked to my own comment about the deal, but that's fine. There's also a pretty nice 2pc knife set discounted by 50%.

I'm a bit surprised at Sears - I expected better deals.

For what it's worth: I just ordered a couple of small things that I had on my list from MSC. I looked really hard but it doesn't say anything about shipping cost. On the final screen, it says "Fright: $0"... The stuff didn't weigh a whole lot, so I ordered it anyway. Maybe the shipping is free... I'll check my bank account in a couple of hours and let you know if they charged me.

Zuspiel,

I'm seeing freight charges when loading five ball peins to the cart, so unfortunately, there is no blanket free-shipping promo.

However, the freight charges were rather low - about $10 for a ~8-10lb order, so I'm not quite sure what's going on.

Hmm... Sounds like they won't charge me for shipping, then, since I didn't see anything on check-out. I just checked and they didn't charge any shipping on my card, either (unless that doesn't happen until the stuff is out the door).

My order was pretty light, though:

Roloc TP holder (thanks Nissan for pointing me the right way)
5 Armstrong 1/2" sockets (thanks to Rigmaster... :) )
A couple of Armstrong tappet wrenches (thanks to what my wife calls "my wrench addiction" :) )

Quick update on the MSC free shipping mystery from Monday: I asked the RMA lady this morning and it appears my account is "marked for free shipping". She doesn't know why but promised me she'd leave it alone :D Typical shipping doesn't sound too bad either. She said ~$10 for up to 15 lb. At least now I know there won't be any shipping charges if it says "Freight: $0" during checkout...

Lucky! If you ever find out how this happened, please share! Although, maybe you shouldn't - my wife would probably throw me out if the UPS guy doesn't attack me first.

This was only the third time I ordered from them. The other two orders were during the 35% off and free shipping period... I don't think I'll try to dig any deeper, though :D It's that whole gift horse thing, ye know?

And, yeah, I can sympathize with the wife and UPS issue. The stuff came in three big boxes yesterday... I got some comments already :)

Weak.

They didn't take any % off the drill doctor that's on sale and they only took a couple % off the lower price items. FU MSC.
Their disclaimer always states that you will receive the lowest discount, and that they won't stack coupons on top of sale prices.

Even after 35% off, MSC's prices on Drill Doctors are higher than at other places. I commented about this somewhere, let me know if you want me to dig up a link.

For some reason I saw the promo as "today only" and then as "monday only." I have since corrected it and out it back as "today" only in the 1st post. Thanks for the reminder, Zuspiel!

No need. I thought I could get the 750x for $90 with the free wheel and bag from MSC. I never really looked at the promotion information that close.

http://www.cpometabo.com/products/600263420.html

Metabo W8-125 5" 10,000 RPM 8.0 AMP Angle Grinder

for $89.95 + 9.95 shipping.

Not a bad deal I think. Don't know if it's a "Hot Deal" but it's a more than reasonable price for a quality German product I think.
Seems like a decent deal compared to that grinder's $115-$125 minimum street price, so I added a link to your post. =)

Added info about MSC's current sale. Some of the featured brands are only discounted by 25%, but others, such as Gibraltar really are discounted by 45%. Not bad at all!

That's why I hate the "up to #% off" phrase. I see this in some retail stores. That's one way to trick consumers - stick a "up to 75% off" sign at the front of the store, and when customers come in inquiring, point to last year's halloween chocolate display.

What are the other "certain brands?" Maybe I'm stupid but I dont see anything that outlines this on the MSC website besides the statement "featuring accupro"

looks like that enco free shipping may be going on indefinitely. Did the limit use to be higher than $99?

Sorry about that, I don't quite know what the heck they're doing.

Hopefully it's not too late, but here are the brands that were mentioned in the email but randomly disappeared from the advertisement. I'm still seeing the discount on Gibraltar products, but did not check the others.

"Our Top Brands also include AccuPro, Tru-Maxx, Hertel, BriteStar, SPI, ProSafe, Gibraltar, Natures Solution, NuLine, ProEnd, Atrax, Jupiter Pneumatics & Maxess."

Yep, I got an email saying that it's extended to 3/2. The free shipping min order amount depends on the coupon code. Free shipping on $25+ was emailed out, free shipping on $99+ is advertised on their site.
