Thanks. I've been registered. So I do get the promo e-mail. But haven't seen the 35% + free ship in a while. Only (if memory serves) the 25% and 30% off for purchases over $149 and $199 respectively.

If you're going to order heavier stuff (cabinets, vise, whatever) the free shipping does make a diff.

About 4-6 weeks ago, there was a 30% off $199+ sale that I was happy to take advantage of, but no "30% off 5+ items".

It'll come around again in a while.

For free shipping, do a quick google search - "friend & family" free shipping codes pop up from time to time. For there to be a heavy discount AND free shipping is a rare occurance. BUT, if the cabinets are featured in one of the monthly deals catalogs, you might be able to get a 20-25% discount or more plus free shipping more easily.

I remember when I signed up with MSC they gave me an immediate 25% off my first purchase. Anyone else get that?

I don't want to make you guys cry but, my MSC work account gets at least 35% off everything and free shipping on every order small or big.:bounce:
We wouldn't order from them if we had to pay their catalog prices.
Speaking of MSC, did anyone get their new hand tool catalog last week? There's not one Armstrong tool listed in it. Mostly proto and blackhawk.

I wouldn't order either at list. I have a "rep" now, but get no discounts. I think you have to order consistently to get those. They want me to order saw blades but I'm pretty happy with the Bahco I get and have no reason to change.

I think I've only ordered at full price if I've needed something in a pinch. But even the discounts for MSC are sometimes more expensive than McMaster.

But you get a sale item from MSC, and if you can apply the 35% disc. with the free shipping, then it begins to be a good deal I think. MSC stocks the CEJN couplers and McMaster doesn't. Also some of the Prevost line MSC has more of. But I've also ordered Prevost from Ultimate Garage, and that was good deal as well.

@Stuey: thanks for the heads up on friends and family discount for MSC. I didn't know there was such a thing.

Well that explains MSC's prices...the people who buy the most, aren't paying them! Always wondered who'd pay those prices, especially when MSC's sister company Enco has many of the same items for much less.

No problem. Or at least I think it's a friends and family coupon. The codes I've seen always have "FF" in them.

FYI, tomorrow thru Wed, purchase 5 or more different items for 25% off with code WEB25.

Also, MSC's codes don't stack on top of discounted/sale items, but you'll always get the better of the two deals.

I order from both, but MSC offers better packaging, a much larger product selection, and MUCH quicker shipping. Enco offers better prices most of the time.

Stuey: I believe FF stands for free freight.

As for codes stacking on discounted items, here's how my rep told me it works: The code takes the price off of list. So if you've got a discounted Durham cabinet at 20% in a flier, you can still get a discount on top of it, up to the 35% off of list price.

That said, I thought I got a better deal than that on the Durham cabinets the first time I bought from them during that sale that was a subject of a thread here. But maybe that's just looking back with wishful thinking. Whatever it is, they were damn cheap :) And good quality.

It seems like the items they have at Enco are usually nothign I want, or come out more expensive than when MSC has a sale. Like their 35 or 40% drill bit sales. Sometimes they have 45% off on some brands.

I got a bunch of bits super cheap that way.

Also set of Armstrong deadblow hammers from MSC that were all under $20 each. Some close to $10 or $12 depending upon the size. Can't beat it.

Also: the times I've looked at Enco, I haven't found them to offer the quality stuff that MSC had, but this could just be the particular things I was comparing.

Haha, whoops, free freight makes a LOT more sense than "friends & family."

I am under the impression that if you have a 35% off coupon, and add on a 20% discounted item, the 35% discount will be applied to the list price. If you have a 25% discount, then you will receive a 25% discount off of the list price.

But if you have a 15% discount, then you will receive the 20% sale price.

Not all items at MSC are eligible for full %-off discounts. Many items have a minimum price, which is why many of their coupons say "up to ##% off."

What I don't always like about MSC is that you have to hunt in their sales flyer for the sale codes, otherwise you'd never know about it from their online catalog. When an item is on sale at Enco, you find out when you add the item to your cart. If you didn't know about the discount from their sales flyer, you still get the same savings.

Gear Wrench Flexible Hex Key Set (both Metric and SAE sets) on clearance at Sears for $19.97 each

82401 and 82411
In-store or online? I don't see them online.

Cool, I was just looking at those last week but they were $35?? I think.

They're pretty decent. "HexPro" versions are identical and can sometimes be cheaper. I have a Gearwrench metric set and HexPro SAE set.

50% off all gearwrench at sears today, and 15% off all regularly priced tools online.

EDIT: they seem to misadvertise...searched around, and mainly just their ratcheting wrenches are 50% off, not most of their other stuff...

Yep. Sears doesn't know what "all" means. Not the first time.

The sale is in-store only, but I've seen mixed responses when trying to buy non-wrench Gearwrench goods. Employees will point to the picture and say ' "all" means that one set', but sometimes I'll escalate it to management, who will then fumble around for 30 minutes with other managers trying to figure out why the ratchets or hex keys I want aren't automatically included in the "all" sale.

Are you sure the sale is in store only? I've looked at a couple of things (Gearwrench 56 piece ratcheting screwdriver, and Gearwrench 14 piece xbeam flex) and both are showing on sale, online. Now I have seen a lot of other items that weren't (the other sizes of the screwdriver sets), but I am looking because these would be not commonly used tools (can't justify the cost per use otherwise).

No, it's online and in-store only, BUT the only items actually discounted right now are those that are available in-store or for in-store pickup.

This happened exactly one year ago, and at other times as well. Sears says "all" but mean "most in-store available items".

After the sale didn't work online last year, I went in-store trying to get a Roto Ratchet set. One store employee told me that "all" referred to all flex wrench sets as pictured. The next day I went to a different store and fought for it. They tried telling me all sorts of things, but I kept saying "isn't this Gearwrench?" and "okay, where does it say this item is excluded?"

In the end, the tool dept. manager gave in and sold me the 2 sets at a 50% discount. He couldn't figure out why that tool wasn't on sale with the others, nor could he find any exclusions anywhere.

I know why. Sears' web team and those responsible for setting up discounts like this are really robotic hamsters from Mars.

I have found that unless the %-off Gearwrench sale is "online only", it's probably going to be botched.

Picked up 3 of the 56-piece ratcheting driver sets as gifts (well, 1 for myself) and used SEARS5OFF50 for an additional $5 off the total.

Tonight there is a midnight madness sale, with 10% off "all" tools. The Gearwrench sale is still going on and I can't find any exclusions, so in theory GW stuff should be 60% off. So far it isn't showing online though...

Decent set for home/light use. Good price. Are the clearance prices good in the stores also?

Bring a printout of the website page and they'll match the price in store.

I've added the things I'm planning on buying to the web site shopping cart, then printed out the shopping cart for price matching in store. That way if any of the items I'm getting are cheaper on the site, I'll get the best price.

Then I'll of course use a 20% coupon on the most expensive item (even after price matching).

Got this from a Deal site but I picked one up so thought I would pass it along.

Actron 9180 from AdvancedAutoParts.com

They've got these on sale for $94 but if you add $6 worth of fillers to get to $100 (I did 3 packages of Scott shop towels which were $2 a piece) and then put in code ES123 it will take off $30 from your order.

So you would get the scanner and towels for $70+tax. Your order will also get free shipping but I am not sure if they have this item to be shipped it said not in my area so I had to do in store pickup and only one store within 75 miles had one (which is actually the one I wanted to go to anyway).

So pretty much your getting the 9180 for $70 and getting some bonus towels, (amazon has them for $140) I'm not a big mechanic but always wanted to mess around with one and at this price thought it was worth it, with the features it has

went to two separate lowes today while i was out. neither had any to speak of except a small and i mean small 6" mini crow bar deal. it wasn't worth the money to buy it even though it was usa made. i did however get them to match and give 10% for the gearwrench flexhead sets for $66, tax included. napa was $70 for both.

i may go back to lowes tomorrow to ****** up the task force sawhorses that are bogo.

Not sure if this qualifies for a 'hot deal' since it is HF, but i figured i'd post this since everyone here raves about the HF black tool cart.

I was able to score it for $80 yesterday. They are currently selling it online for $100 without a coupon. So I printed out my shopping cart, manager knocked it down to $100 to match, then I was still able to use the 20% off coupon on top of that and got it for $80! The in-store advertised price was $150 on sale.

Not bad for my first time there IMO...
