does anyone know if the impact is 3/8 or 1/2? it doesnt say on the site

It is 3/8 but has an adapter from 3/8 to 1/2. I bought this set 2-3 years ago and it does a good job. I don't use it but ever other month or so, so I don't know how it would hold up to heavier use

In retail electronics land, many manufacturers have agreements with their "big" retailers that guarantee the lowest possible cost on new products to those retailers. When the mfr has an overstock (misssed the sales forecast, for example), they need to dump the excess inventory, but they can't discount their wholesale price becasue of the agreement mentioned above.

...so they get sold as "reconditioned" when, in fact, they are new.

I'm not saying that all reconditioned products are new, but this is one reason why some recon stuff certainly is. I have bought a lot of recon stuff over the years, most of it appeared new, and never had problems with any.

The Impact is 1/2 inch drive. It has an adaptor in the box for the air ratchet (which is 3/8 drive) to move from 3/8 to 1/2. I saw the set in Lowes last night while I was in there to pick up an order.

My Brother-In-Law owns an electric motor service. He sells DeWalt, Bosch,Porter Cable and Makita. Not only does it happen just the way you said it also covers tools that people have returned that they didn't like. open boxes and those that actually have a defect. He also gets the discontinued lines. He buys them for about 60% of the cost of a new unit. I don't buy from him because his family discount is like list price of a new unit from Lowes+10%. He sells a lot of the "Reconditioned" tools to plants and factories so they don't much care what they pay. I've never seen one of the reconditioned tools that didn't look brand new. They come with the same warranty as well in most cases. Now DeWalt when they get a returned tool with go back through the entire tool as if it were being built again. It's how they learn to keep improving (or seeing where they can cut a corner) and the returns turn out to be part of the R&D department.

This really isn't the place for ebay auctions. Hot Deals are supposed to reflect sales & deals that are available to more than one person.

I'm gonna be picking up a hand full of things from that sale, never can have enough zip ties and I need one of those mirrors to help change my spark plugs. Gotta love HF

I actually bought a pack of the HF zipties last weekend, and they are garbage. I zip tied something, and later it just let loose as if it lost the locking tooth. But I only paid $2 for a 100 pack of 14" zip ties...so i guess i have nothing to complain about.

They are in every Harbor Freight i have been in (Florida, Georgia). I got mine for 90 only because i cried like a woman when the store i drove 50 miles to get to didnt have the black one(even though I called and they said they had one and they would hold it for me). I guess the manager felt bad and gave it to me for the coupon price of the black one.

Has anyone ever seen this US General cart lower than this? I've never actually seen this one in the store, just the black one which I think has four drawers. Is it mail order only?

I picked mine up for $150-20% coupon so around $120 on a sale about 3-4weeks ago. Its a great cart wish I had room for another.

That is indeed a good deal. There's also another seller selling the 1/4" and 3/8" versions as a combo for $60, not as good as this deal but close.

These are neat, and Proto makes some of the most solid ratchets IMO.

Good to know- I just bought one!

If I didn't like the Craftsman thin profiles so much, the Proto's would be my next choice. I really like the newest style ones too (successor to big dawg series), it's too bad that they aren't stocked in more places. Alexandria supply has them, and for cheap too, but I've heard mixed opinions of that place as far as delivery time.

I have a secret desire to have my whole toolbox stocked with Proto black industrial finish ratchets and combo wrenches.
