I'm sure you've seen Kiwi Kev's - not a barn, but definitely inspirational!!

Also, I'll point you to shopnuts place. Maybe search "pole barns"?

Hows about you start by posting pictures and specifications of the 'barn' that is to be worked on and what your interests, skills, and ambitions are?

Well the best tip I can give you is to make it accommodate to your use of your barn. You don't want plans for small tools when you got big ones. For inspiration I would do a google image search of the things you want to build. That and visit other garage and see how they use theirs and if that is better for you. Congrats on the new house and barn. I look forward to the build thread.

Check out Nimrod's place. While it's more of a shed, it has a really cool vibe about it with the wood floor and hot rods with an old time feel. Along with Kiwi Kev's, it's one of my favorites.

I'm moving from having a 2 car garage to this old barn from the 1800's..most of it was rebuilt but it sits on the original Stone Rock foundation, it's built into the earth so there's a ground level section which right now had a Ford Model 600 tractor..since it's a dirt floor, it's not very high and very unlevel plus there's the huge support posts that are in the way..now the main section of the barn is accessed from the other side and it's huge with work benches and there's a 1948 international tractor parked in there..since i know it's strong enough to hold a tractor if i were to move the tractor down below do you think the wooden floors are strong enough to hold 2 1955 ford cars? at least for the winter. i'll enclose some pictures of the bottom level and main level (we got the property cheap, sits on 5 acres, it was a widow living there and the place went to hell, it's now cleaned up and we're closing on the house soon) These pics are from our first walkthrough of the property..like i said it's been cleaned up.

yeah i'm a 55 ford guy..and i think this tractor is a mid 50's..i did some research and they still make new parts for it as it is one of the best tractors ever made. i've going to sell the 48 international..hope to get enough to get me a decent miller welder and maybe a 60 gallon air compressor.

i 've been thinking of adding more supports to the lower level..it's probably best if i get an engineer out there to tell me if it's strong enough to hold 2 cars..like i said though, these barns were made to hold tractors and farm machinary..so, maybe it is strong enough as it sits now, to hold the cars..

You're right, it's not a Cub. Not a "C" either though. It's way too small.

Gotta be an "A" or Super A.

Either way, there's a market for it if that market is targeted.

Its an "A", one way to tell the difference is it has no Touch Control levers.

The "A" had the Lift-All system, Super "A" had the new Touch Control hydraulic system.

This was in response to the Ferguson three-point system used by Ford.

And there are other differences, A's had magneto ignition, Super A's were coil ignition. But this could have been converted, since that was a very popular conversion back in the day!

I havent been on here in a while..to reply to the last post it was an IH Super A..i ended up selling it but i'm restoring the Ford tractor.. I've decided to convert the basement of the barn to a 3 stall garage. i'll need to reconfigure some of the support beams and have the dirt floor dug out and concrete poured. This will be my cheapest route rather than building a new garage. i already have all the lumber for new Headers and support walls. The neighbor has excavating equipment..so the concrete is going to be the most expensive part. The barn's Foundation is stone as you can see from the pics and it sits on huge flat stone footers. there's going to be some work involved. But i NEED a garage! cause right now my car is sitting up on the wood floor

NICE SPACE! those old barns were made to keep hay and equipment in, so I would think it would hold a car. An engineer would know for sure.

Look at Classic Motorsports Nov. 2009, Pg. 46 for a pretty damn incredible barn. It's cluttered and messing and dripping with hot rod cool!

I love old barns especially with the handhewn beams! :bounce:You can't find craftsmanship like that these days. You can get alot of tractor info on TractorByNet.com they have sections for the different brands.
