Soffit cabinets...

How far did you come down the ceiling and away from the wall? 18" or 24"??

I lagged 2x6's to the ceiling then the wall. Then hung supports from ceiling and started framing from there. Pretty easy just keep it all square. Cheap plywood inside for shelf. 1/4 inch plywood for underside of soffit and doors. $8.00 lights from Lowes and wired up a switch. Pretty easy and I'm certainly no electrician or carpenter. I have about $300 in the soffits.

I am about to start my soffit project and was a bit unsure as to what bolts I should use to attach the boards to the ceiling. Can you tell me what size you used? I don't want them to snap while under load after I get them all built and stuff stored in them.

Also, at which points did you use lag bolts other than the boards on the ceiling? How did you fasten everything else together, nail gun or screws?

Any advice is very much appreciated!

Thanks for the compliments! I used lag bolts to fasten 2x4's to the ceiling and wall. I then built the soffits off that just using screws and nails.
