applies the force a little differently than your Channellock groove-joint (or slip-joint) "water pump" pliers. not just the force of the lower jaw, but also your arm.
I'm not a physicist so I really can't explain it better.
just for laughs blow ten bucks and get a set of those funny-looking Wilde models and try 'em out.... only real way to know.
my go-to pair for most stuff has been a pair of #3443 Indestro 13" groove-joints for years, but they're awfully damn big for a lot of stuff, so I recently acquired several sets of the Wilde models like in the photos I posted above (as well as that funny-looking model I posted the link to, but again: I went with the 8" model.)
