You guys had me worried for a while. It seemed like he was only getting serious answers. I'm glad we finally got some GJ type answers.

The rented lift looks to me like the way to go.

Using today's technology to remove yesterday's technology...

Use several drones to lift the TV and bring it down.

Maybe its directly above the bed facing downward :)

There's a "Herman" cartoon about that, but I can't find it to post it. Herman's on the bed, squashed under a big TV, there's a bunch of pulled nails and scrap lumber hanging off the ceiling and his wife is saying something like, "I told you putting the TV on the ceiling isn't a good idea".

go to a metal yard ... send about $150-ish and build your self a gantry and spend another $100 to get yourself an electric hoist , a few straps and bob is your Auntie...

or get the 2x6 wood to do it... double it so about 8x or 10x pieces still cheaper than 7 guys :) maybe.. but more fun...

** oh yeah 4 or 8 cheap casters... at about $5 each...

something similar to this ...

Chainsaw and front end loader...

Come in front the outside!

I just moved the same TV off a 42” shelf in my shop down to the floor. Alone. Just a 2x6, and the knowledge that it would never be plugged in again....

call over 3 friends. Put up a scaffold about 5' up. Get some straps to put around it that are secure, and can be held by two guys - maybe a 4x4 thru them or a piece of thick wall pipe where the straps are not in the center. Two guys lift and lower, two guys help guide it down. Get 5 friends if you want more safety. 6 guys is only 40 pounds each. 4 guys is 60 lbs each. Or put a couple old mattresses and blankets under it and let gravity do its work. I'd use two mattresses on the floor stacked, and one on the wall to catch any rebound. It will hit hard from that height.

I have to figure out how to move an old Sony trinitron tv off a shelf that is 12’ high. It weights 260lbs. The only thing I can think of is to somehow use my die Cart (it looks Like a dolly) and lower it down, problem is die cart only raises to 4’

Here is the cart I have

We had one of those and it took 5 guys to carry it upstairs when we bought it. When it came time to get rid of it about three years ago, we told some paint contractors they could have it for free if they carried it out. My son and I could not even lift if because there was no good place to grab without hurting your hands. It still worked fine but we switched to LED tvs.

I gave this some thought and decided I would do this:
Get 4 large moving boxes and fill them 1/4 with bubble wrap. Tape them securely shut.
Set them in place below the TV and ratchet strap them together.
Put a bunch of painters tape all over the TV screen.
Push.

Why painters tape??? It doesn't stick as well as and isn't reinforced like duct tape.

Good luck getting a CRT to break just from falling on a cardboard box. I'd be more worried about the plastic cabinet.

I guess they must have been skinny guys, and no muscles, I had two of the 36" WEGA Trinitons we bought new, and when we went to a large flat-screen TV, I removed it from the wall unit, and carried it to the pickup truck myself. I didn't drop it, and the set probably weighs more than I do, but it's close. I used a set of ratcheting motorcycle tie-downs to give me something to easily hold-onto, around the cabinet. The other Sony TV is still being used.

I visited my brother in Milwaukee and we had Sunday brunch at the Comet Café, where they bring you a free plate of bacon with a purchase of a pitcher of beer. Travel tip, once things return to normal, should you find yourself in Milwaukee.

Tommy

The front of that Trinitron tube is something like 2" thick leaded crystal, but at the back, it's surprisingly thin.

Sorry....I'm calling BS. There is no such thing as 'left over bacon'. Doesn't happen....at least, not in my house.

Agreed.

260# TV? How old is it? I think I'd get a large cardboard box set below it, push it off the shelf and deal with the debris at floor level.

Never suggested it was old, refrigerated or anything like that...

Leftover means... I pulled the first 5 strips... made a sammich... ate that.

Mrs Pines left 4 strips on the tray when I went to drain the pan I used...

Said 4 strips not scoffed down by Mrs Pines secured the designation as "left over"...

Some of you who are serious about just pushing the thing off the shelf, you do realize it will mess up the floor and most probably bounce into a wall. Aint no few moving boxes gonna control it either. LOL

Heck, if it's on the second floor it will probably crack the drywall on the ceiling below, and probably brake a light fixture or two. 11 feet...260 pounds...hard dead weight.

Not to mention take out the ladder your standing on.

Take it apart and lower it down in pieces. Sure it'll take longer but you'll be able to get it done.

I think the vast majority of the weight would be in the picture tube, so if you took it apart you would still be dealing with getting a very heavy item off the shelf.

Ha! That was what I was thinking.

I've done this 30 years ago. Only about 10' off the floor. I strapped the TV up with tied downs so I could get a pick point. Lagged in a 2x6 into the ceiling joists and an block and tackle to that. Hooked it up and removed the shelf. Lowered it down.
Good luck.

I may just try this idea ! The tv is garbage so I guess it doesn’t have to work after I get it down . I just didn’t want to damage her floor

Unless you have a concrete floor, I'd be worried about the floor damage, lol. If I dropped that big ol' ***** on my 150-year-old floors, it would go all the way to the basement!

This is the only reason I was hesitant to just drop it on a few bean bags and mattresses

So...

:needpics:

Seriously, I want to see how this resolves itself...

I’m hoping to get this done this weekend lol. I have yet to see pics myself . Just going off what a friend told me . It’s kind of hard at the moment with everyone trying to self quarantine lol

Since the TV is scrap:
- screw one or two 2x4(6/8/whatever) into the case.
- put a lag bolt in the board
- add another lag to a stud in the ceiling
- rope it up, pull it up, lower it down
