Are you being serious? Do you not have building codes in Tennessee?
Yep, the after looks at homes in Memphis and other areas in Middle TN, where homes and garages suffered tornado damage, apparently showed little difference between nails/powder actuated/bolts and degree of damage. That was enough for the "experts".
It has only been the last year or two that joist hangers are required on floors - but even that is up to the inspectors, as some of the hangers are so poorly nailed or not completely nailed, that they would prefer nailing only, rather than splitting the framing and leaving a bad attachment.
We do use clips on roof OSB, but very little else as compared to NoVA. Same with electrical.
They do have decent septic requirements and inspection, though.
