How deep should I drill anchor bolts to prevent blowouts on an 18' x 20' wood frame garage?

Sorry, confused. Do you have a slab or foundation that does not have anchor bolts cast in? Are you trying to bolt down new walls? Is this getting inspected?

You live on Nebraska? Ohhhhh, I'd say a good 30' or so. Hear it gets windy there sometimes.

It is a slab with 12 " footings and it will be inspected. New walls

Deep enough for the bolts.

cut nails through the bottom plate will do what you need. I alternate every other stud.

Typically what you use. 12" from corners, no more than 6' apart if I remember right. Insert just as the slab is starting to set up.

Yep, the after looks at homes in Memphis and other areas in Middle TN, where homes and garages suffered tornado damage, apparently showed little difference between nails/powder actuated/bolts and degree of damage. That was enough for the "experts".

It has only been the last year or two that joist hangers are required on floors - but even that is up to the inspectors, as some of the hangers are so poorly nailed or not completely nailed, that they would prefer nailing only, rather than splitting the framing and leaving a bad attachment.

We do use clips on roof OSB, but very little else as compared to NoVA. Same with electrical.

They do have decent septic requirements and inspection, though.
